Prece ding the business meeting the elected officers for 1978 were duly installed by Past Chair man Hilda Yocom, who at the same time presented them with permanent record books. Installed were: Marian Ro binson, chairman; Virginia Peck, vice chairman and Alma Vinson, secretary. The outgoing officers, Ruth Robin son, chairman; Marian Robin son, vice chairman and Del pha Jones, secretary were given appreciation booklets for their year of service. During the business meeting plans were discussed for several money-making pro jects, and further discussed was the card party and luncheon to be held St. Patrick's Day. The activity will start at 10 a.m., recessing for a salad lunch at noon and continuing with cards until 2 p.m. The next club meeting will be at Eula Bloodsworth's. home. The crab supper and card and bingo party held at the Lexington Grange Hall last Saturday was well attended with the. following guests winning pinochle prizes: men hi, Louis Halvorsen; low, Roy Lindstrom; women hi Muriel Palmer; low, Vonnie Lov gren; traveling Henry Peck and Erma Kiethley. . William J. VanWinkle is a patient in Pioneer Memorial Hospital. Lola Breeding and daughter Joann Smith have been Lex ington callers from their home in Irrigon. They visited a week-old grandson Jonothan Thomas son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Humphreys who was born last week at Pioneer Marie Yocom and Millie Yocom were Portland and Cornelius callers over the week-end where they visited Irrigon news Francis Rose 922-3352 The Girl Scouts of this area held a "Play Day" Saturday, March 10, at the A.C. Hough ton school. Each girl brought a sack lunch and all 39 present had such a good time they voted to make the play day an annual event. Umatilla and Hermiston troops were present as well as the Irrigon-Boardman troops. They divided into patrols to play games and do crafts. The girl scouts are celebrating Girl Scout week March 12-18. Cookie sales have started this month and will continue until April 17. Irrigon leader Glenna Greer started with seven girls in a Junior Girl Scout Troop. She now has 14 girls and needs an assistant. Carol Tolar and Patty Wadkins of Irrigon lead the Brownie troop with Mrs. Darrel Mayberry, assistant of Boardman. This includes girls of the 1st to 3rd grades from Irrigon and Boardman. Lay ton Lockwood is the Umatilla leader and Kathy Hess is the Junior Troop leader in Her miston. For the past several years the curlew, a migrating bird, . has been observed returning vto the Irrigon area on or around March 15. Like the swallows of Capistrano they keep to a schedule. The curlew belongs to a vanishing species, and is a member of the snipe family. They like to nest in a marsh area such as is found along the Columbia River in the Irrigon area. Mr. and Mrs. Dale Jones, and daughter. Mrs. Jones is a sister of the two girls. Linda Jackson and son Danny of Denver, Col. were , visitors at the home of her parents Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Burcham recently. Victor Klinger, of Portland, was a recent Lexington caller. Lolita Marquardt is living in Portland, where she is em ployed by Pacific Northwest Linda Dunlap, resource clerk at the U.S. Forest Service, Heppner Ranger Dis trict, has been promoted to timber clerk and will be moving to Baker, where she will start her new position March 27, in the supervisor's office. Mrs. Dunlap, a native of Heppner, has worked at the Heppner office Wk years. A farewell party, given by her friends and co-workers, was held Friday evening, March 10, at the American Legion Hall. Mr. and Mrs. Pete Christen sen, Portland, and Mrs. Norma Vawter, Pendleton, were recent visitors at the home of their uncle, C.J.D. Bauman and Mrs. Bauman.
