A few weeks ago, a contrac tor for Columbia Basin Elec tric Co-op completed a line rebuild of an area along Quimby and Hoover streets in Fossil with some of it in the downtown area. The line rebuild included some new poles, some heavier primary line, new services and most importantly, an upgrade in primary voltage and trans former voltage. Presently, the Columbia Basin Electric area is rebuild ing lines in the downtown area in east Fossil. Several new poles will be installed, bare secondary will be eliminated, several services will be changed out to heavier size and transformers and pri mary line voltage will be changed. The City of Fossil rebuild is a part of a long range improvement program. Ap proximately half of the city of Fossil has been upgraded from 2.4 KV voltage to 7.2-12.47 KV voltage. The higher primary voltage does several things for the member and system: reduces line losses in distribution of power; increases the line carrying capacity with the capability at high voltages; allows , for better secondary voltage levels as a result of the increased capacity ability and obviously, works strongly to ward cost-conscious energy , conservation - concepts. .The heavier customer services and larger transformers are of additional service improvement. Columbia ' Basin will be , continuing in 1578 to work on the system improvements in Fossil. ' ; LIVE M OR AROUND I0NE?
