Now, Coach Gordon Meyer's Cardinals are sporting a 2-0 mark with both victories coming at the expense of teams that contributed to last season's drought. "Sure it was tough," Meyers said of the Cards 26-22 win over North Powder. "When you're as inexperienced as we are, any game is going to be tough." But Meyers was pleased with his team's performance and directed particular praise Filly spikers sweep Riverside in opener The Heppner Fillies volley ball team opened the season Tuesday, Sept. 13 with a straight game victory over Riverside on the Fillies home court. Heppner took the first game by a score of 15-6 and prevailed in the second con test 17-15. Diane Holland, this year's captain, led all scorers with 15 points as she served eight consecutive winners in the final game. Riverside was paced by Kathy Farlow's nine points and Kathy Monsay's six. Heppner's Laurie Harrison and Marie Yocum provided the sets that were polished off by spikers Jackie Mollahan, Janice Healy and Maureen healy. "We played good defense when we had to , especially in the fourth quarter," Meyers said. Jim Rogers of West of Willow trailed with a 5-7 mark.
