The Gazette-Times, Heppner, Ore., Thursday, April 21, 1977 SEVEN Lexington news Delpha Jones Egg hunt successfull; Links club has election The Easter Egg Hunt held on Saturday afternoon at the Lexington school grounds was well attended. A group of Holly Rebekah members were in charge of the hiding, and assisting the small ones in their hunt. Three Links Club met at the home of Mrs. Frank Robinson for their regular meeting and election of officers on Thurs day afternoon. The same of ficers as last year were elected, as follows : Ruth Rob inson, chairman; Marion Rob inson, vice chairman; Delpha Jones, secretary. Plans were made for another traveling food sale to be held the Saturday preceding Mother's Day. The pillowcases and other fancy work have been received and members are asked to pick them up and get them finished for the bazaar in November. Door prize was won by Dorothy Burcham. Members present were Leila Palmer, Marion Rob inson, Florence McMillan, Catie Padberg, Dorothy Bur cham, Leita Messenger and Delpha Jones. The next meeting will be at the home of Irene Padberg in May. It was announced that the Rebekah Assembly presi dent for '77 and '78 will pay her official visit to our lodge September 29, a Thursday, which will be a special meeting. Mr. and Mrs. Don Campbell were recently here from their home in California, bringing Mr. Campbell's father, Roy Campbell, home after a visit there. Jean Christman, Boise, was a recent visitor at the home of her mother and brother, Betty Christman and Carl, in Lex ington. Mr. and Mrs. John Telle chea and small son are now living in Lexington on the Ralph Burcham lot. VAR IANCE PROCEDURE. There were 16 ladies present for the afternoon. The cake was a flat creation with tan icing, orange roses, and lettering, Happy Birthday, Mom. Coffee and tea were also served. Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Miller and family, of Heppner, were guests at the CC. Jones' ranch on Monday night, where they enjoyed dinner in honor of Earl Miller on his birthday. Other callers that evening at the Jones' ranch were Mr. and Mrs. Orville Cutsforth, Hep pner, and Mr. and Mrs. Alonzo Henderson, Hood River. Millie Yocom, Portland, was a recent caller at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Yocom. Norma Marquardt has re cently moved into a trailer adjoining her house at the Marquardt ranch. Members of the family will reside in her former home. Rick Marquardt and sons, from Connell, Wash., visited his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bill B. Marquardt, over the week end. Mrs. Carl Marquardt and daughters Sherrie, Debbie and Lolita were Portland visitors Saturday on business. Carroll and Jerry Messen ger, Portland, and Franklin, from Bend, were callers at the home of their parents, Mr. and Mrs. T.E. Messenger, Sr. The Extension walking tour of Portland scheduled for this Friday, April 22, has been cancelled, according to the Heppner Extension office. Mrs. Owen Leathers, Larry Cook and Carl McDaniel attended the funeral of an uncle, William Pennington, at Baker on April 13. Pennington was a pioneer in this area and worked for the Minors for many years. The Heppner relatives were accompanied by Mrs. Carey Hasting and Norvin Adams, both of Hermiston. of the Zoning Ordinance of the City of Heppner. Linda Bier, Lela Breiden bach, Coleman and Bobbie Devine, Lynn Gochnauer, Tim and Dee Hedman, Debbie Klaus, Janice Sherman and Ron and Bruce Young will take part in the service, and the only adult taking part will be the regular organist, Paul ine Miller.-" '"' After the morning service, the youth group will go to Pioneer Memorial Hospital to repeat their program. They volunteered to present this hospital service at 2 p.m. Lawn sale work begins Collecting of items for the May 21 Methodist Lawn Sale has begun in Ida Farra's garage, where the committee members, Lesley Patching and Elsie Leathers, will price contributions. Among interesting antiques already on hand is a six drawer, porcelain knobbed, hand made chest that came from early Lexington. It is an unusual, real Morrow County antique. Inadvertently omitted from last week's listing of com mittee members was Martha King's name. Martha will be helping with the baked goods sale and with the luncheon. appear at the time and place appointed. Mary Bryant, director, and members of the drill team presented a new drill as part of the evening's program. President Shirley had asked each member to bring a button to put into a gold kettle which was presented to the state director as a favor from the Kate J. Young Lodge. Ida Farra presented Shirley Connor with a cup and saucer decorated with the Degree of Honor emblem. Marjorie War den won the evening's door prize. Before the meeting, Ida Farra had entertained Bea trice Clausen and Mary Car dell at dinner in her home. Volunteers in smile contest Volunteers of the Retired Senior Volunteer Program in the Heppner area measured width of their smiles during their "Spring Thing" potluck luncheon recently at the Heppner Neighborhood Cen ter. Many of the ladies modeled and told about their home sewn outfits. Most reported the great savings over store bought clothing as well as that . figure problems could be bet ter camouflaged or allowed for. All outfits showed per--, sonal tastes in clothing choice. Several showed ingenious use of remnants. Prizes in the smile contest and other games were fresh spring geraniums and pansies or impatiens. Rachel Harnett received her 100 hour service pin and Law rence Brady was awarded a 20 hour certificate. Interested persons are invited to attend the hearing and express their views. The first barrel race was held April 6 at the Umatilla Sage Rider Grounds.
