Page II Silk & Satins The Silk and Satin's 4-H Sewing group met at Oswalt's home in lone on Monday, Dec. 13, 1976, at 3:30 p.m. Theresa Ely is our new member. Everyone enjoyed the Blue Mountain swim and pisza party. This was organized by Mr. Howell and Mrs. Tullis. We learned the whip stitch and thereby finished our felt turtles. Our leaders gave us ideas for our fair project. Our next meeting will be on Jan. 17. Refreshments were served by Anne Murray and Annette Roberts. Marie Oswalt, Reporter Christmas program set AS X An-; Party Line Dorothy Zlta & Jusilne Weatherford As one gets older the dream of a white Christmas fades and the struggle with stomach flu, head colds and walking pneumonia makes one less eager for snow. Our Morrow County sunshine seems extra great this December. However, the plight of the ski resort owners in the state is mighty sad. Aren't the merchant?' Christmas windows delightful? Have you noticed the hospital's roof lighting this year? And you must be sure to tour the area to admire the lovely outdoor and indoor lights in so many homes. It puziles us why the new, downtown lighting hasn't been lit north of Center St.? It is in place on the poles there, but hasn't really sparkled yet. Main Street is so festive south of Center and the lights continue around to the Courthouse steps. Last Monday evening's Greenery Workshop resulted in many lovely wreaths, swags and table centerpieces. Those who learned the tricks of fashioning their own green masterpieces left the workshop wreathed in smiles as they packed their creations homeward. The lleppner Garden Club members have abandoned a plan for a tour of holiday-decorated homes, because they found that every night from now through New Year's has at least one or two activities scheduled. Vet some people think there Isn't much to do in our little town. Holiday times affect readers of library books in very different ways. Some check out an extra supply of reading. Other regular readers say that they must "lay off" during festivities. A few rush books back before they are due. Many seem to forget that the date due is stamped in the back of each book. We hear that Elaine George has become a new member of the Board of the Morrow County Museum. She was inducted at the board's annual meeting last Sunday evening at the Duvall home. New construction makes us feel encouraged about the ending of the recession. The First Federal Building is so neat. Now a new building is going up on Gale St. behind Gonfy's store. O Tannenbaum, 0 Christmas Tree, has everyone noticed the beautiful blue spruce that Is our Christmas tree this year? It is tall, straight, and Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Warren donated it to the city of Heppner. It came out of their back yard, where it had been growing for some twenty years. t Monday night there will be the annual Christmas concert at the High School gym at 7:30 p.m. Don't forget to mark it as a must to attend. The hustle that seems to surround everyone now that Christmas is only 9 days away Is frantic. Have I done my X-mas shopping? Some. Are my Christmas cards out? No. Do I have a tree? No. Bah, humbug! dz Cutsforth celebrate 25th anniversary A lute afternoon candlelight 25th wedding anniversary re ception was held at the Elks' Club in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Orville Cutsforth, Sr. The reception was hosted by the family of the honored couple. Mrs. Swede O'Connei, sister of Mrs. Barbara Cutsforth, The Dalles; Mrs. Minerva Den slinger, mother of Mrs. Cuts forth.
