Morrow County has more miles than either Union or Baker Counties. Development: Negotiations with B.L.M. in 1965-67 resulted in sale of governmental land In Morrow County and made present agricultural development possible in Boardman and Irrigon areas. He has cooperated with our 5 cities on streets and other municipal projects. Under his leadership, the County Court has coordinated activities with the Port Commis sion and approved the current development in the Boardman. Irrigon area. Roads under planned development include Wilson and Faler. A signal crossing at Patterson Ferry Is In final stages of approval and the last link on the Bombing Range Road has been approved and the survey Is underway. Morrow County built a clinic In Heppner and Is negotiating a Federal Grant to erect a Health Center In Boardman. Taxes : Morrow County has never gone over the 6 per cent limitation for the General Fund support. The tax rate for all County services has declined from S3.92 per thousand In 1973 to $2.05 In 1976 77. With the growth of the Justice of Peace Court In Irrigon, new quarters must be found; Morrow County Is right now accepting bids from contractors for a new office buildlr.g In Irrigon. e-Elect Judge Paul W. R Carter-Mondale tab committee The Carter-Mondale State Campaign Headquarters an- 4-H to 'Tighten the ship' "We want you.. .only if you want us," is a new motto being incorporated by Morrow County 4-H leaders, according to Mike Howell and Birdine Tullis, county 4-H coordinat ors. The duo spoke at the Hep pner -Morrow County Cham ber of Commerce Monday, showing a slide film that out lined the county's 4-H pro gram. Howell said Morrow County planned to "tighten the ship" and not be so lenient. Howell said that 4-H leaders would be advised to tighten standards on attendance and participation. Too many times, Howell said, a young ster is in 4-H only to get a chance to sell an animal at the fair. The pair called the north end of the county a challenge and said that 4-H encourage ment and interest was grow ing there. Last year, almost 400 kids were involved in 4-H in Morrow County. Tullis told the chamber that today, 4-H has grown from cows and horses to the ad dition of creative arts such as tole painting, pet programs and puppetry. nounced today the appoint ment of the Morrow County committee. The co-chairpersons for the Morrow County Carter-Mondale Committee are Sharon Summer and Paul Jones. Ms. Summer is a former assistant secretary of the Oregon Sen ate. Both of the co-chairpersons live in Heppner. The Morrow County Com mittee will be conducting an intensive door-to-door voter contact and voter registration campaign.
