Research by government, industry, and the utility industry itself concerns new power plant design of a multitude of types including geothermal, solar, coal liquids and what have you. Conservation Is a factor in energy planning for the future by the electric cooperatives such as Columbia Basin Electric Coop. Use of heat pumps, better insulation, better product design are encouraged. Long range planning is the key interest of the management of Columbia Basin. System Improvements are prepared on the basis of 2 year and 10 year planning. Power requirements for the 3400 consumer members are planned on a 20 year basis. Recent large load growth of Columbia Basin provides a trend which may really cause problems in power supply availability for the Coop, down the road. As you enjoy the convenience of your electric service, remember that your support of area generation projects Is necessary for the region and your locally owned electric coop.
