Thursday, July 29. t7S, Page i 1 Hardie- Around The Party i Pot Belly Stove a Line J BY JUSTINE WEATHERFORD AND DOROTHY ZITA Mrs. Kdda Mae Lovgren returned home Tuesday from St. Anthony's Hospital, Pendleton, where she underwent gall 1 bladder surgery last week. . The Morrow County Picnic will be held at Laurelhurst Park, Portland, Sunday, August 8. Everyone Is invited. Sounds like a fun day meeting M.C. residents, who have moved away from here and a good day for old fashion gossip. Jim and Ilobbe DrUcol have returned from an eight-month tour covering 11 states In their travel trailer. After spending their winter in sunny Arizona, square dancing and meeting people from all over the states, they then took off to visit their new friends who had headed for their home states. It was then as far as Wisconsin, seeing cows up to their bellies in deep grass in Iowa, and Nebraska. In June everything looked green and beautiful. In New Mexico, they stayed with Len and Maxine Gilman, who are retired now, and operate a , cattle ranch. Jim was put to work helping Len and his crew brand some 1500 head of cattle. Jim and Bobbe are staying here long enough to have dental work and then it's back to the maps and the traveling. Mr. and Mrs. Verl Cochern, Hubbard and granddaughter Debbie Smith, New Orleans were visitors at the Orville , Culsforth home. Karla Weatherford completed her degree requirements in 4 occupational therapy at the University of Puget Sound, Tacoma, in June 1975. Since then she has worked in Seattle and Bremerton area hospitals under a temporary permit. This week she telephoned the good news that she has taken and passed the Washington State examination in her field and is now a registered O.T. She is supervising therapy aides in four convalescent hospitals in and near Bremerton. She is at Shelton and Port Orchard on one day each and in two different Bremerton hospitals two other days. On the fifth day she completes records In her Bremerton office. Sad news from The Dalles is that Mrs. Effie Johnson, who left many friends here when she moved beside her son Bill's family several years ago is hospitalized. Effie suffered a broken hip and now has a plastic ball Joint. Her friends can write to her at The Dalles General Hospital. The Rill Weatherford have just looked at vast acreages of wheal being harvested, mostly in eastern Washington. They drove to Dayton to visit with Weatherford relatives, including another Bill Weatherford. Then they continued to Spokane to spend the night with Justine's daughter Ann and her husband, Ray Chenhall. Coming home they stopped at the Snell Weatherford home in Ritzvllle. The Montreal Olympics had real competition here this last Sunday as a large crowd cheered the local swim team In Its victory over Baker, Enterprise and John Day. As a result of two Vkkls and their children meeting at the story hour at the library, the Steve Wagenblasts. Lexington and Steve Tollefsens, Heppner are planning to get a Vicki and Steve versus Vickl and Steve tennis match set up soon. Probably Ben and Greg Tollefson and Amy and David Wagenblast will be their cheering section. Albert C onnor spent part of last Monday morning in the old schoolhouse privy in the park-he diligently repainted the inside of the structure that he and Bill Weatherford re-roofed last week. II Is sad to have so many nice ladies hospitalized, such as Marina Van Schoiack and Edda Mae Lovgren. Youthful dancers are still saying that the rodeo dance of July 10 which featured music by CobWeb and Strange was outstanding. Slrntlt John ltllns has returned after field trips to California and various Oregon locations. He leaves soon to drive back to New York where he reports on Aug. 3. at Cornell University for further study and teaching. Tho C.E.T.A. IIIIS students who have been helping with the children at the Heppner Child Development Center are Paul Carlson and Vickl Marlon. Kenny and (ilenda Rogers with Marti. Heidi and Todd are leaving Heppner this Saturday to make their home in Irrigon. They have been living In the Gazette-Times apartment. The Tupper Y.C.C. ( amp has Invited resource persons and friends and family for a barbecue at camp this Sunday, Aug. I, as they begin their final week. Legion Post picnic :, American Legion Post No. 7 and Auxiliary will hold their annual potluck picnic Sunday, August I, It am., at Anson Wright Park. American Legion District 6 Commander, Arnle Hedman and District Auxiliary Pre sident, Rita Hedman attended the DEC meeting in Albany last weekend. Brown harvest helper " Mark Brown Is on vacation from his duties with the Washington Slate Patrol at Aberdeen, WA. He is helping his parents, Paul and Betty Brown, with the wheat harvest which la now under way. Given in marriage by her family, the bride wore a floor length gown of chantilly lace and polyester organza. Her full length veil was held by a mantilla headpiece and trimmed in matching lace. The bride carried a large bouquet of white carnations trimmed with yellow and light blue roses. Doreen Flack, sister of the bride was maid of honor while bridesmaids were Donna Wilson, sister of the bride, Jan Bergstrom, cousin of the bride, and Cindy Doherty. Jodi Hall, cousin of the bride was flower girl and cousin of the groom, Brandt Royce was ring bearer. Cathy and Craig Gutierrez, sister and brother of the groom, were candlelighters. Kevin Gutierrez was best man for his brother. Groomsmen were Kim Gutierrez, brother of the groom, Ed Winkleman and Dick Snyder. Ushers were Mike Doherty and Jerry Pettyjohn. Pastor Mark Johnson officiated. Organist for the wedding was Rikka Tews and vocalists Nartia Wheelhouse and Sherri Regan sang "There is Love" and "The Lords Prayer." A reception put on by the bride's aunts was held after the wedding in the church basement. After a wedding trip to The Dalles, the couple will live in lone where the groom is employed by Union Pacific Railroad. Jones went to Portland Thursday Using Kimmberlee Whitney home after a visit with her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. C.C. Jones. Mr. and Mrs. Henry M. Bre eding and family from Gresh am were Heppner and Lex ington callers last weekend. The Shoun Reunion was held Sunday at Bull Prairie with about 71 members present. From Lexington area were Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Steagall, Heppner, Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Dougherty and family, Mr. and Mrs. George Steagall and Tommie, from Pendleton Mr. and Mrs. Roger Brandhagen and family; and Mrs. Howard Crowell and daughter of lone. Mr. and Mrs. Greg Leyva from Wilbur, WA are the parents of a 7 lb., 4 oz. daughter born Sunday at Davenport, WA. The baby has been named Trad Marie. Maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Steagall, Lexington and great grand mother Cora Bumside, Spray and paternal grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Gar Leyva, Cen tral Point. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Ho ward and family have recent ly returned home from a 3 week trip to Oklahoma where they visited friends and relatives. Their pic ture hats had streamers of the same material. Kimberly George and Cam George, niece and nephew of the groom were flower girl and ring bearer. Doug D'Agostine, Portland, stepbrother of the bride, and Eddie Sherman, the bride's brother-in-law, lit the candles. The groom, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jack VanWinkle, Hepp ner, asked Benham Malcom of Heppner to be his best man. Seating the guests were Jim Cant, Imbler; Ron Shelton, Pasco; Steve Rhea, Heppner and John Hardie, brother of the bride, Milton Freewater. A cluster of bells and doves was used for the top of the four -tiered wedding cake ser ved at the reception in the Fellowship Hall of the church. Helping at the bridal table were Dannone Nelson, Hepp ner and Trisha Toll and Shirley George, sisters of the groom of Heppner. Lori Fol leen, Portland, served punch and Lynn Sovinc, Portland, was at the gift table. Shanny Farley of Heppner was at the guest book. The couple will live at Enterprise where the groom is employed by the Oregon Fish and Wildlife Commis sion, following a wedding trip. The new matron is a 1976 graduate of Oregon State University and the groom has one more year of study at Oregon State University. Heppner represented The state convention of the American Legion and Auxili ary was held at Seaside this year. Attending from Heppner Post No. 87 were Arnie Hedman, Ed Baker and Grace Steers. Representing the Aux iliary were Rita Hedman, Lois Johnson and Elberta Baker. Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Imel journeyed to LaGrande to visit their son and family, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Imel, Jr. Mr. and Mrs. Mike Rowell and daughter visited with friends in Eugene and visited with his parents, the Ray Turners of Westport. Mrs. Cleo Drake returned yesterday from her grand daughter's wedding. Jathy Drake, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Drake, Fairfield, CA, became the bride of Robert Lambrecht on July 17. The wedding was held at the United Community Methodist Church in Fairfield. Mrs. Drake and traveling companion, Mrs. Ray Turner, returned by way of Reno where they joined Mr. Turner for the trip home. The Ernest Drakes are former residents of this area. Anna Ball and Ruth Berg strom entertained a group of friends at the home of Ruth Bergstrom. It was a farewell party for Vida Heliker. An autographed apron was pre sented as a group gift. Games were played and refreshments served. Mrs. Eve Smith, mother of Mrs. Ken Nelson and sister-in-law, Mrs. Mark Smith and Family were here visiting the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ken The Bunchgrass Rebekah Lodge held a no-host luncheon at Beecher's July 22 in honor of Vida Heliker. After treating Mrs.' Heliker to lunch a gift was presented. Following the luncheon the ladies went to the home of Edith Matthews for a visit.
