Mr. Floyd Grable of Pendle ton visited with Mr. and Mrs. Edmund Brlstow on Saturday. Mrs. Elmer Ellis gave a birthday dinner last week in honor of her husband, Elmer, and his sisters, Mrs. Edmund Bristow and Mrs. Everett Keithley. The occassion was held at the home of their mother, Mrs. Ida Grabill, who is 94 years old. They received many nice gifts. Guests also included Mr. and Mrs. Earl Wright, Edmund Bristow and Don' Bristow. Kenneth Smouse underwent open-heart surgery on June 3 at St. Vincent's Hospital and is doing very well. He is staying at his daughter's apartment in Portland and the address is care of Chcrilyn Smouse, Hill crest Apt. No. 210; 3115 S.W. 12th Ave.; Portland, 97201. Kenny Lynn came up from Salt Lake City, Utah and is also staying at his sister's apartment. Chaplain (LCT) and Mrs. Charles M. Maness Jr. and daughters Lisa and Jan of Redstone Arsenal, Alabama have arrived for the wedding of their daughter Lisa to Chuck Nelson. They are stay ing with Mr. and Mrs! Norman Nelson. Lisa's parents and sister will be here for a week. Mr. and Mrs. Ken Nelson went to Portland for two days to celebrate their anniversary and to take care of some business. Suzanne Cutsforth babysat Jill and Heidi. Mrs. Sharon Gelinas and Alisa of Caldwell, ID and Mrs. Inga Nichel of Fulda. Ger many were weekend guests at the home of Sharon's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Crabtree. Alisa remained for an extend ed visit. Mrs. Gelinas and Mrs. Michel became friends when Mrs. Gelinas resided in Ger many for a few years. A coffee hour was held on Sunday for friends to meet and visit with Mrs. Michel. Also visiting at the Crabtree home was Mrs. Carolyn Hall and sons Jim and Kevin McCabe and Meg O'Meara of Moscow, ID. Kevin had been In Moscow for a week visiting his mother. Jim will be staying until after harvest. Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Halvor sen went to the Crabtree. reunion in Sclo over the week end. Returning home with them was her sister, Mrs. Roy Stender, Salem. She will be here for about 10 days. On the weekend of June S visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Martin were their daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Al Brazell, Kathleen and Brian of Jordan Valley and Mr. and Mrs. Darrell James, Jeff and Joel of Turner. Others gather ing for dinner on Sunday included Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Nelson Jr., Mr. and Mrs. Norman Nelson, Chuck Nel son, Don Bristow, Mr. and Mrs. Lindsey Kincaid anf daughters Margaret and Mary. The summer story hour at the library has begun. It is free for preschool and pri mary children and will be on Wednesdays from 11-11:45 a.m. This will be from June 16 through the month of July. Willows Grange will meet on Saturday, June 19, 8 p.m. There will be no potluck dinner. Beta Omega Chapter of E.A.S. held held a "Kegger Kookout" at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Osmin on the evening of June 12. Volleyball and horseshoe preceded the barbecue followed by indoor party games and dancing. Guests included Mr. and Mrs. Doug Olsen, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Pearson, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Halvorsen, Mr. and Mrs. Dave Bar net t, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Heimbigner, Mr. and Mrs. Marv Padberg and Ron Dubs. The awards night ended with the installation of the 1976-77 student body officers. Attending a summer retreat in a cabin in Lincoln City, OR. are students enrolled in con firmation at Valby Lutheran Church. Leaving Monday for the four-day trip are Mike Conklin, Lisa Meyers, Treve Peterson, and Dennis Stefani. They will be accompanied by Pastor Mark Johnson and fellow confirmands from Hep pner, Oregon, A baby shower was given in honor of Tram pas Bergstrom, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Bergstrom at the. Donald Peterson home. Hostessing were Martha Peterson and Barbara Peterson. Besides ' the honoree, Trampas and his mother Jan, those attending were grandmothers: Mrs. May Ekstrom, Mrs. Iva Book er and Mrs. Marlene Peterson of Heppner. Other guests included: Mrs. Cindy Greenup and sons, Mrs. Barbara Stefani, Mrs. Doro thy Stefani, Miss Teena Ste fani, Mrs. Marilyn Rietmann, Mrs. Donn Bergstrom, Mill Jan Peterson, Mrs. Linda Johnson, Mrs. Kristin Lindner of Hermiston. Several sent gifts who were unable to attend. Mr. and Mrs. Roy A. Lindslrom, Paula and Troy of Gresham were visiting in lone the past weekend. They took in the annual United Church of Christ Barbecue and Auction. Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Mey ers enjoyed the Jr. Olympic Track meet which their dau ghter Lisa participated in over the weekend. Rick Doherty and Janet McElligott have gone to sum mer school in Corvallis for a week. Joan Doherty and Terry McElligott have left for Girls State at Willamette Univer sity, Salem. Terry is a Junior Counselor and Joan is a dele gate. Mr. and Mrs. Matt Doherty drove them down and enroute they stopped in Al bany to visit Mrs. Lewis Vearrier. Debra Palmer is also a delegate from lone. Mr. and Mrs. Frank An derson, Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Anderson, and Mr. and Mrs. Eric Anderson attended the graduation of Steve Anderson from the University of Oregon last weekend. The Swim Team has started their prac tices, they will be held every morrung at 7 a.m. Tuesday thru Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Rob ertson (Jill Rugg) left Sunday, June 6, with their pickup camper for Kodiak, Alaska. They plan to spend the summer, returning to Oregon in September in time to register for the fall college term. Across from the Crists on Gilmore St. Jane Rawlins has also had visiting grandchild ren. The Rawlin's daughter, Carol Brewster, Corvallis, and her children Matt, 4, and Natalie 2, spent last week in Heppner. They came because of the Dobbs-Paddock wed ding on June 6. Robert Dobbs, son of Jeanne Dobbs, former Heppner beautician, and Patti Paddock, daughter of Leta Paddock, Pendleton, were married in the Baptist Church in Pendleton. Mrs. Helen Thompson, Pen dleton, a former long-time Heppner resident, is a patient at Providence Hospital, Port land. Her room number is 219. She has been hospitalized over a month because of a broken hip. Mrs. Weatherford and Rev. and Mrs. Cutting visited h2r at Emanuel Hospital last week end and found her walking in the hall with the aid of a walker. She has daily therapy sessions which are helping her regain her strength. This week she may leave the hospital to go to her brother's home for a stay before returning to her home in Heppner. Last week we reported 3 grandchildren at the Harold Beckett's and 3 grandchildren at the Winn Crist's homes. Those six are staying, along with their parents, this week also. In addition Anita Hab erlach, 6, from Kent, WA, is visiting with her grandmoth er, Mrs. Weatherford.
