ton visited with Mr. and Mrs.
Edmund Brlstow on Saturday.
Mrs. Elmer Ellis gave a
birthday dinner last week in
honor of her husband, Elmer,
and his sisters, Mrs. Edmund
Bristow and Mrs. Everett
Keithley. The occassion was
held at the home of their
mother, Mrs. Ida Grabill, who
is 94 years old. They received
many nice gifts. Guests also
included Mr. and Mrs. Earl
Wright, Edmund Bristow and
Don' Bristow.
Kenneth Smouse underwent
open-heart surgery on June 3
at St. Vincent's Hospital and is
doing very well. He is staying
at his daughter's apartment in
Portland and the address is
care of Chcrilyn Smouse, Hill
crest Apt. No. 210; 3115 S.W.
12th Ave.; Portland, 97201.
Kenny Lynn came up from
Salt Lake City, Utah and is
also staying at his sister's
apartment.
Chaplain (LCT) and Mrs.
Charles M. Maness Jr. and
daughters Lisa and Jan of
Redstone Arsenal, Alabama
have arrived for the wedding
of their daughter Lisa to
Chuck Nelson. They are stay
ing with Mr. and Mrs! Norman
Nelson. Lisa's parents and
sister will be here for a week.
Mr. and Mrs. Ken Nelson
went to Portland for two days
to celebrate their anniversary
and to take care of some
business. Suzanne Cutsforth
babysat Jill and Heidi.
Mrs. Sharon Gelinas and
Alisa of Caldwell, ID and Mrs.
Inga Nichel of Fulda. Ger
many were weekend guests at
the home of Sharon's parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Leo Crabtree.
Alisa remained for an extend
ed visit.
Mrs. Gelinas and Mrs.
Michel became friends when
Mrs. Gelinas resided in Ger
many for a few years. A coffee
hour was held on Sunday for
friends to meet and visit with
Mrs. Michel. Guests Included

The summer story hour at
the library has begun. It is
free for preschool and pri
mary children and will be on
Wednesdays from 11-11:45
a.m. This will be from June 16
through the month of July.
Willows Grange will meet on
Saturday, June 19, 8 p.m.
There will be no potluck
dinner.
Beta Omega Chapter of
E.A.S. held held a "Kegger
Kookout" at the home of Mr.
and Mrs. Frank Osmin on the
evening of June 12. Volleyball
and horseshoe preceded the
barbecue followed by indoor
party games and dancing.

Frank Pearson, Mr. and Mrs.

Although Tuesday was a
sunless day for the opening of
the swimming pool, the pool
was well attended by the
younger set in town. The Swim
Team has started their prac
tices, they will be held every
morrung at 7 a.m. Tuesday
thru Saturday.
Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Rob
ertson (Jill Rugg) left Sunday,
June 6, with their pickup
camper for Kodiak, Alaska.
They plan to spend the
summer, returning to Oregon
in September in time to
register for the fall college
term.
Across from the Crists on
Gilmore St. Jane Rawlins has
also had visiting grandchild
ren. The Rawlin's daughter,
Carol Brewster, Corvallis, and
her children Matt, 4, and
Natalie 2, spent last week in
Heppner. They came because
of the Dobbs-Paddock wed
ding on June 6. Robert Dobbs,
son of Jeanne Dobbs, former
Heppner beautician, and Patti
Paddock, daughter of Leta
Paddock, Pendleton, were
married in the Baptist Church
in Pendleton.
Mrs. Helen Thompson, Pen
dleton, a former long-time
Heppner resident, is a patient
at Providence Hospital, Port
land. Her room number is 219.
She suffered a broken hip in
a fall while visiting her son
and daughter-in-law, Mr. and
Mrs. Alex Thompson.

Recent visitors to Portland
have found Amanda Duvall en
her feet again. She has been
hospitalized over a month
because of a broken hip. Mrs.
Weatherford and Rev. and
Mrs. Cutting visited h2r at
Emanuel Hospital last week
end and found her walking in
the hall with the aid of a
walker. She has daily therapy
sessions which are helping her
regain her strength. This week
she may leave the hospital to
go to her brother's home for a
stay before returning to her
home in Heppner.
Last week we reported 3
grandchildren at the Harold
Beckett's and 3 grandchildren
at the Winn Crist's homes.
Those six are staying, along
with their parents, this week
also. In addition Anita Hab
erlach, 6, from Kent, WA, is
visiting with her grandmoth
er, Mrs. Weatherford.
Returning from two weeks
vacation, taking in the sights
of our surrounding states were
