The once stately old home was razed by firemen as a practice to simulate actual fire hazards. During the fire, probes were used to determine the actual degrees of heat generated at the ceiling as compared with the floor area. Once the fire was started the actual time elapsed for the fire to spread, to the various rooms was recorded. Approxi mately 75 people were on hand to watch the firemen burn the building. According to reports the single wall constructed building would have cost more to remodel than have the building demolished and for the construction of a new home. The picture at the upper left shows the home prior to the fire. The center picture denotes the raging fire. The photo at the right shows the balcony collapsing. The balcony was the last standing member of the house to fall. v't . mi III , I I 'PITT' $ '" ' ; V I ''' : .
