Susie Cooper is the only one of the staff who has a good jump on Christmas. Eileen Saiing shudders every time Susie reminds us that it's that time again. Mrs. Freida Maje&ke was given a dinner party in honor of her 75th birthday Saturday evening. Those attending were Jack and Audrey Mountes, Portland, Burke and Ginger O'Brien, Echo, Pat Wnght and Gene and Alice Majeske, Lexington. At the recently opened Tn -County Health Service Office is Molly Becket as secretary. Molly has moved here from Pendleton where she worked in the office of the Bon Marc he. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Laurence Becket. Bud and Harriet Batty left here Friday evening for (da math Falls. The fog was so thick by the time they reached Condon, they had to stay over night there and continue to their destination the next morning. You can meet him Saturday at I 30 in front of me City Hall Also the merchants are having a "Guess What" contest going on all day. All the instructions will be in their window displays. So will see you all in Heppner on Saturday. Line Mr and Mrs. Merle Loyd. Heppner, had as visitors over the past month. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Pierce, St. Helens and their granddaughter, Peggy Seigler. Johannesburg, South Africa; Elvin Malcolm. Deer Island, and his sons. Gary of .Astoria and Dennis. Portland; Mr. and Mrs. W.A. Palmer. Deer Island: and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Klepper, La Pine Saturday evening, the Mor row County Fair Board and Rodeo and the Junior Rodeo members attended dinner given at the Elks Lodge. Over 190 were served. It was a relaxing evening for all. Now a few months rest before the hard work begins again. Without you all we realize that our Fair and Rodeo would not be the great success it is. The Women's New Comer Club will bold their Christmas lunch at the Wagon Wheel Restaurant at noon. Mondav, Dec. t. The members are asked to bring a Christmas tree or nament, instead of the usual exchange of gifts. The orna ments will be given fo Pat Brindle to help decorate the Pioneer Memorial Nursing Home Christmas Tree. All the women are invited to attend, especially those re cently moved to the communi ty. The club hopes for a large attendance and it is a good time for all to meet their neighbors. Rebekah Lodge Regular meeting of Sans Souci Rebekah Lodge was held in the IOOF Hall Friday night with Noble Grand Ola Ruggles and Vice Grant elect, Esther Bergstrom in their respective chairs. Members balloted on three members to be transferred to the non-contributing member ship list. Mary McMurtry, District Deputy President, reported on her official visitation to Bun chgrass Lodge, lone, and heard Esther Bergstrom of this lodge, qualify for the office of Vice Grand for the coming year. Mary Bailey, a 37-year member of Sans Souci was nominated and elected Noble Grand, to head the new slate of officers for 197S. Cheer cards were sent to Dimple Munkers. Pearl Wright and Lee Wagonblast. After the meeting refresh ments were served by Dud and Delia Tash. For enter tainment Pepe McMurtry showed colored slides of Denver. CO. and vicinity, also of the Grand Canyon. Next meeting will be on Dec. 5 with entertainment following TURKEY DIWER A St Ct ESS Methodists set busy December Visiting during the end of elk season was Richard Zita Jr.. Beaverton. He didn't get his elk. but did get some good visiting in with his mother, Dorothy and grandparents. Orville and Barbara Cuts-forth. Are you over 40? A known relative of a diabetic? A turkey dinner, complete with all the trimmings was served at the annual fund raising dinner, presented by the parents club of A. C. Houghton Elementary School. Irrigon. It was estimated that more than 500 residents of Board man and Irrigon attended and made the project a success. The turkeys were prepared by parents ho are employees of the Nomad Restaurant, Boardman, using their facili ties. The potatoes for the dinner were donated by local farmers. The entire school partici pated in the talent show that followed the dinner. The sixth grade band opened the pro gram with a patriotic theme. There was group singing by several different levels. Most songs were of a patriotic and bicentnnial theme. Indivi dual musical performers in cluded a piano solo by Jyl Hobbs and a guitar solo by Verna Vollmer. Four girls performed a dance routine to "Flying Purple People Eat ers": two brothers. Phil and Warren Williams performed a tumbling act. A cheer -leading skit was presented by Kelly Harvey and Denise Key. A short play was given by the fifth and sixth combination room, entitled "The Prince of Pollution", a fractured fairy tale of Cinderella The calendars of members and friends of the Heppner I'mted Methodist Church are well filled with December events. Wednesday, Dec. 3 the United Methodist women meet; at 8.30 a.m., Dec. 7 there will be a Junior Youth Group breakfast ; after church on Dec. 7 the official board meets. Dec. 11 the Susannah Orcle will meet at the church at 2 p m . the next night the annual charge conference will be conducted by District Su perintendent Askew Crumb ley. Bend. Church members will gath er at 6:30 p m. in the dining room and are asked to bring table services along with pot luck food for this Dec. 12 event. After church Sunday, Dec. 14 the coffee hour will be presented by Vera Batty and Beth Bryant. That evening the all-church sinspiration will begin at 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 15. Rev. Cutting and others of the Heppner Garden Club will conduct their annual Christ mas Greens Workshop in the church basement. Sunday. Dec. 21 Communion will be celebrated at the morning service. That even ing the annual Church School Children's program will begin at 7:30 p m. Dec. 28 the Junior United Methodist Youth group will go to Fossil in the evening. Rev. Cutting's Thursday evening Bible Study will meet at 7:30 p.m. in the parsonage on the 4th. 11th and 18th. TWENTY-FIVE ATTEND JUNIOR t'MY GROUP Ten Junior United Metho dist Youths came from Fossil to join eight Heppner young people at the Methodist Chuch here Sunday evening. Nov. 18. Seven adult leaders and help ers also attended and helped to make the evening memor able. These two youthful church groups have been enjoying monthly exchanges this fall meeting in each of their two churches alternately. Rev. Perry Jarkman, Fossil and Rev. HARVEST FESTIVAL HELD AT CHURCH The annual Harvest Festi val of the First Christian Church. Heppner, was held Wednesday. Nov. 19, in the church parlors. Some sixty people sat down to a bountiful Thanksgiving dinner which had been pre pared under the supervision of Mrs. Larry Cook and Mrs. Millard Nolan. Membership in the national student honorary society is based on four criteria-(l) scholarship, (2 leadership and participation in extra curricular activities, 3 citi zenship and service to the school and (4) promise of future usefulness to society, The students were nominat ed by SOSC faculty, students and campus organizations. This year, approximately 70 students were originally nom inated, with a selection com mittee of faculty and staff members nuking the final selection.
