Page 4. THE GAZETTE-TIMES, Heppner. OR, Thursday, Nov. 20, 1975 Party B) DoroUiy 7iu Sunday morning many people were up at 7 a.m., making coffee, turning the heat up, and building fires in fireplaces. At eight the elec tricity was gone. By ten, for us who don't have fireplaces, we visited friends who did, craw 1 ed back into bed or put a heavier jacket on. Our black out lasted 5 hours and it took S more for us to feel warm again. Take a gal like me, w ho has lived in a big city for the past 12 years, I know the whole city of Portland would have panicked in one hour. Here almost everyone just accepted it and that was that. Contest winners for the turkey give-away were Jessie Furlong, Clyde Nutting, Mrs. Feans O'Brien. Condon, Erma Ralston and Michael Haus auer. The winners have been notified and now with Thanks giving just around the corner, guess we had better go buy ours. It's moving time for Arnie and Rita Hedman, just one block but with a whole store to move and all the remodeling of the hotel lobbv before that. By now that one block, probably seems 100. JAPANESE MEMORIES TOI.D SOROOPTIMISTS Alice Abrams, Jeanette, Piper, Cathy Palmer and their mothers were guests at the Soroptimist luncheon, Thurs day, Nov. 13. The three girls narrated slides taken while they were in Japan last summer and also displayed souveniers. After their presentation club members were invited to ask questions and this brought out a few more facts about present day Japan. Btrdine Tullis spoke briefly about how the trip was arranged for these girls. She said that they applied, were carefully scre ened, and their families were interviewed concerning the expenses involved. Each of the girls stayed in a different area in Japan. They spoke affectionately of their Japanese families, of their fa;hers. mothers, sisters and brothers and even grandpar ents and uncles and aunts for tjie duration of their summer adventure. Line I stopped in tor a cnat wnn Justice of the Peace, Charlie O'Connor this week. His desk is covered with citations issued by the local law enfor cement agencies. So far his season the hunting citations are running about the same as last year. They are running two to one for the out of county residents. Citations have been issued on one hunter caufcnt with two ducks, which he said he didn't shoot, one issued on a hunter for shooting a grouse, because his wife likes grouse and four issued be cause the hunters misplaced their elk tags. The tags were found later in one of the hunter's pockets. Of course there is a more serious side. Church i Directory ASSEMBLY OF GOD - SS 9:45 a.m. Worship 11 a.m. Sun.
