Fiesta How I 10 Mrs. Orville Mayko) Buch anan visited her homeland of Japan in October and found the country had made much progress since her last visit S years ago. She visited her family and friends on the Island of Kyusha in the south part of Japan, then rode the Bullet train to Tokyo. This train travels at 129 miles per hour, taking 6 hours to travel 800 miles. Mrs. Buchanan especi ally enjoyed this trip, she said, as she could see the scenery and the countryside. As she toured the beautiful city of Tokyo she saw some of the new buildings, one 52 stories high. Another under construction will be 60 stories high when completed. While Mrs. Buchanan has a love for her homeland, she says her home and her family are here and this is where she belongs. The l-adies Aid of the Community Baptist Church held a bazaar and reported that they did very well. They sold both baked goods and sewing items. Mrs. Vera Geisler has relurned lo her home in Irrigon after visiting her daughter. Mrs Walter Gehert for two months. While there she attended her granddaugh ter's wedding. Pastor Kobert Schmoll an nounces that a special Thanksgiving service will be held at the Assembly of God on Tues , Nov. Z, 7 p.m. The community is welcome lo attend ; STAV Meetings are in progress this week and Sunday, Nov. 23, except for Saturday night with the Provincials Trio from Canada. They include J.P. Evans and Mr. and Mrs. D.H. Irvine. At its November meeting the Irrigon City Council adop ted a resolution urging the League of Oregon Cities to work toward establishing the northeastern portion of Ore gon as a priority area for state agencies. It is felt that the growth of the area needs special attention in planning, funding and related fields. Stringent amendments to the city's trailer ordinance were adopted with an emer gency clause making it effec tive immediately. These changes will limit location of mobile homes outside courts or parks to a minimum of 950 square feet placed on property owned by the occupant. The lot size requirement is 9.000 square feet. The renting of mobile homes or lease options will not be permitted. Height of floor above ground level steps and landings and skirl ing materials were also in cluded in the new regulations. Owners of mobile homes who anticipated locating in Irrigon are cautioned lo consider the requirements. The council turned down the offer and voted to have the property appraised to determine the market value. It was felt this would be necessary even though it were leased, since it would need to go on the tax roll again. The council was informed that Ed Johnson, who had been serving as part time utility man had quit. No replacement was named at the meeting. Warren Prouty who has been acting as chairman of the Citizens Involvement Com mittee gave notice meetings had been cancelled until furl her notice, due to lack of member interest.
