OR., Thursday, June 26, 1975 r m L RIGOH NEWS Frances Rose Wilson Fair books in the mail Court house notes 32 Ira Mors of the Oregon unit of the Wally Byam Caravan Club parked overnight at Irrigon in the park area along the railroad on North Main Ave. They made the drive from Portland Sunday, where an 8 day rally of the Oregon unit was held on Multnomah Co. Exposition grounds. They received a rousing sendoff by the Queen of the Rose Festival and her court. Leading this particular Car avan is Wait Thompson, president of the Oregon unit, who expressed appreciation for the camp area to Mayor Chester Wilson, who welcom ed the group. The Caravan is enroule to the Ifflh International rally in Brandon Manitoba. Canada, beginning July 25. 5.000 trail ers are registered to attend this annual event at Brandon, loo miles west of Winnepog. Tliis is the first rally to be held in Canada. Last year's meet ing was held in Notre Dame where just over -1.01)0 attend ed The Wally Byam Caravan Club is a loosely organized group interested in group travel. The one essential requirement of membership is to own an Airstream trailer. A large percentage of the mem bership are senior citizens. The Good News Singers and pianist. John Marlow. pre sented a program of gospel music at the Assembly of God in Irrigon. Sunday night. Marlow who has been in radio work for the past 12 years told of their plan to build a Christian radio station within the next year. They plan to locate on acres on the Power Line Road between I'matilla and Hermiston. Members of the congrega tion were requested to invest in the project at $100 a share. Carroll Marlow of Seattle is " also involved in the project and spent several days in the area. Marlow stated that he was persuaded that Christian people of the area really wanted a Christian station that they could tune in to any time day or night. Many of the well known programs such as Haven of Rest would be carried. The Columbia Major Little League has concluded their games and will go into practice with the selected All-star candidates, chosen from each team, to make a combined Columbia Little League Team. This team will represent the league at the sub-district play-off at The Dalles on July 16, 17 and 18. Columbia Little league Teams wins and losses: Stanfield. 14 w ins. 2 losses. Irrigon. II wins. 4 losses. Boardman. 5 w ins. Ill losses. I'matilla. 1 win. I. losses. The premium books for the . 1975 Morrow County Fair go in the mail the end of this week. The red. white and blue books are helping to carry out this year's fair theme, "Bicenten nial". Approximately 300 more books are being mailed to Morrow County residents this year. The new Fair Committee hopes that by sending premium books to more residents, will encour age more participants at this year's fair. The Fair Committee is encouraging as many Morrow County residents as possible to place exhibits in this year's fair. There is a class for everyone from the age of five years old on up to compete in. The Fair Committee and superintendents have been forming plans for this year's show since early May. New events are being plan ned. For the first time in several years there will be carnival rides on the fair grounds during the week of events. The 4 H style show has been moved up to Tuesday night. Wednesday night the Fair Committee is making plans for a family night of entertainment, a barbecue and an auction put on by the Morrow County Bicentennial committee. Dates for (he 1975 Morrow County Fair and Rodeo are August 19 through 24. The Fair Committee and Fair Board encourage all Morrow County residents to look over the premium book and plan to exhibit at the fair. Anyone who does not receive a book and would like one is asked to contact fair secretary Liz Curtis by calling 676 9454 or writing her at box 464, Heppner. Last week Don Scott of the hn-al Government Personnel Institute, who is retained by the county, met with the county court, the roadinastcr and the sheriff concerning union negotiations. The Slate Land Conserva tion and Development Com mission asked the counties to appoint citizen advisory com mittees, and the Morrow Court has asked the County Planning Commission to serve in this capacity here. A lease for the new medical clinic has been suggested by the court and county legal advisors and will be negotiat ed with the clinic doctors. Seven landowners in the ordinance area have petition ed to have the county establish a right-of-way between the railroad and the freewav. Pole Line Road is being improved through coocrativr effort by the county. Sabre Farms and Eastern Oregon Farms. The assessor's office men, diaries Patching and Tom Stewart, are continuing their job of appraising mobile homes and new construction in the northern part of the county. M DANIEL WINNER IN COYOTE CONTEST Carl McDaniel of Heppner was the winner of the Coyote contest sponsored by the Elk Foundation Association. The contest ran through the months of March and April in a four county area. The winner was determined hy the manlier Coyote tails taken from those killed. The 73-year-old McDaniel far outnumbered the competi tion with 81 w hile the rumicrup collected only 39. McDaniel declined the prize of a rille stating that he had all the guns he needed. Instead, he asked thai the money m-cded to buy the rifle be hi ven to the Cancer Society instead About :iu persons attended the dinner and installation ceremony of the Heppner Snmptimist International Club held in the American legion Hall. Friday evening. June 2t. Elaine George conducted the installation. Yi Lanham was mistress of ceremonies for the evening. Daisy Collins read the annual community service report. Ola Mae Gro shens entertained at I he piano. The buffet dinner was prepar ed and served by the Ameri can Legion Auxiliary.
