May 27. 2 p.m.. at the United Methodist Church, Heppner. Mr. McBride. 60. died at his home Friday. Mr. McBride was born July 19. 19U. at the McBride log cabin on Wild Horse Creek, near Weston, the son of Harry and Dora McBride. Umatilla County pioneers. He married Bethel Olsen, Milton-Freewater, At Walla Walla. Wa.. April 24. 1936. He established and operated Mc Bride's Body Shop for many years until illness forced his retirement. He was a former employee of the Gentry Gar age in Weston, Farley Motor Co.. Fayne Motors and Pen dleton Grain Growers. He also worked for the Soil Conservation Service. Athena, and Kinzua Lumber Co. Mr. McBride was a member of Methodist Church, Hepp ner. Heppner Elk's Lodge 358, a Past Noble Grand of the Heppner Odd Fellows Lodge, and an honorary member of the Heppner Volunteer Fire Department. Survivors are his widow: a son. Dan of Lexington: sister. Ilene Chase, Spokane. Wa.. and two grandchildren. The Rev Edwin Cutting officiated, with interment in the Heppner Masonic Ceme tery. Register now for 4-H camp With school activities end ing. 4-H members are remind ed that now is the time to get pre-registered in to the County Extension Office if they wish to attend the annual 4-H Camp. All members 9-13 are eligi ble to attend the camp, which will be held at Cutsforth Park June 29-July 2. Theme of this year's camp will be based on outdoor survival. Special events such as a movie night, karate demon stration, and other new events of interest will be included. Members may return the registration form which was mailed them some time ago, or come by the Extension Office and pick up a registra tion form if they have mis placed the one mailed them. Final date to pre-register is June 16. Older 4 H youth ages 15 18 are needed to counsel at 4 H summer camp. June 29-July 2. Counselors will supervise 4-H campers, conduct camp acti vities, help with program . plans, assist or teach classes, and provide recreational acti vities for campers. Those interested are asked to return the registration form mailed them immediately, as camp plans must be complet ed soon. 29, Umatilla Speedway has busy schedule Umatilla Speedway will be busy for the next three weeks as racing action continues with'Sunday, June 1. A giant Iripleheader and the first Saturday night event June 7 with a Jalopy Destruction Derby and Figure 8'ers and again on Saturday night, June 14 with a big Iripleheader event. Then there will be a 2-week layoff before the Nas car Western Grand National Late Models come on Thurs day. July 3. 1975. the PACA Super Stocks and B stocks are scheduled for action along with the BMRA Figure 8's and estimates are that a giant field of each group of the cars w ill be on hand and ready for their second start. Time trials have been set for 1:30 p m. with the first of the ten big racing events set for 2:30 am. Speedway gates open at regular track 12 30 with admission. Of' Lounge fx Cafe Br.lCC budget gets anotherchanceJune 17 The Blue Mountain Com munity College Board of Education last night reaffirm ed June 17 as the date when the college's operating budget is to be voted on for the second time. The budget was defeated May 6, the first time BMCC has lost a budget election. The voters also turned down the Umatilla County IED and several local school budgets at the same time. College President Ron Dan iels said the college could not operate without a favorable vole. "We have no tax base to fall back on," Daniels said, "therefore we must get a budget approved before we can open our doors to stu dents. This year we served some 5.000 individuals, rang ing from the full time student working for an Associate Degree to the unemployed person working for an adult high school diploma. "The cost to our local taxpayers comes to about $280 for each person served", he added, "and if we had to cut any more we would be cutting programs that would elimi nate students. The new tax levy to be voted on is $67,633 less than the original. Total cost for the year would range between $34 80 and $37.20 for a person with a $20,000 home, depend ing upon the total true cash value of the two-county dis trict. In other business the board awarded the operation of the food service program to John and Jan Conroy, Pendleton, for the 1975-76 school year. The Conroys will operate the college's snack bar, a service provided in the past by Dan Satterwhite. FAMILY VISITS Visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Mike Saling over the weekend were their son and family. Rev. and Mrs. Renne Harris. Joseph. Caroly and Sean. Portland.
