Roice Fulleton. ry Kemp Roice Sher- District 7-A meet Saturday The l!t; District 7-A track and field meet is scheduled for Saturday at Condon with defending champion Heppner favored to bring home the team title again. The district meet is the culminating event for the current spring season. First and second place w inners and those earning qualifying stan dards earn a trip to the state class A to be held at Pleasant Hill the following weekend, May 15 16. Saturday's event is schedul ed to get underway with preliminaries in the field events at 10:30 a m. with finals at 11:00. Running preli minaries begin at 11:30 with the finals slated for 1:30 p m. Schools participating in clude Heppner, lone, River side, Helix, Umapine, Pilot Rock, Echo, Condon, Uma tilla, Wasco County, Weston McEwen and Sherman County. Heppner trackmen finished second in a four-way meet in Peiullcton Monday afternoon. Final team scores were Pen dleton 1 27 . Heppner 71. YVoton McEwen :1K',.. Pilot Hock 2.Y The Pendleton squad was made up of varsity and junior varsity members ex cluding seniors The Mustangs compiled seven first place victories. Pendleton had six and Weston-McKwen and Pilot Kih k two each. High point performer and the only double victor for Heppner was David McLeod will) first in the high hurdles and Mo. He was third in the high jump and a member of the winning mile relay learn. Clayton Wilson scored 13 with a first in the loo. a fourth in the javelin. Dewavne McClain added to with a first in the mile and second in the 880. McClain's time in the mile was a "best". 4:47.2. and his 880 time of 2:09.5 is second best in the district. Second place efforts were recorded by W ade Padberg in the 440 Dan Marshall won the discus and second place el torts w ere recorded by Wade Padberg. 440. and Carl Christman. pole vault Thirds went to Tom Wolff. 440 and Steve McLaughlin, low hur dles Dave Allstolt was fourth in the high jump 'rsi back r:m 1 Mfei- -.
