Date of last Publication April 11, 1974. John F. Mollahan, Sheriff & Tax Collector Sumner files for 2nd term Rep. Jack Sumner filed his official notice Friday with the Oregon Secretary of State to seek re-election as State Representative for District 55. Sumner was originally elected in the November 1972 election and has served in both the 1973 regular session and the 1974 special session. Sumner's legislative district is the third largest geograph ical representative district in the state of Oregon, involving eight counties, Jefferson, Sherman, Gilliam, Morrow, the eastern portions of Linn and Marion, the eastern and southern part of Clackamas and southern Wasco Counties. The Heppner Democrat, in announcing his intention to seek re-election said "He will continue to oppose legislation that imposes additional bur dens on the citizens and local governments of our sparsely populated district as well as all citizens of the state. During this past legislative year I have developed a strong position that laws passed imposing added costs upon those affected should be funded by the state. This would curtail legislation and would require budgeting in addition to more thoughtful consideration on measures before passage." Sumner is a member of the joint legislative committee on Trade and Economic De velopment and is co-chairman of the subcommittee on Agri culture and Industrial De velopment. During the regular legislative session he was vice-chairman of the Agricul ture and Natural Resources Committee and a member of the Transportation Committee and the State and Federal Affairs Committee. He was also a member of the special committee on Property Tax Relief and School Finance which developed the homeowner-renter tax refund program.
