Page 8 lone A girl was born to Mr. and Mrs. Perry Morter, Feb. 3. The Morters now have three girls and three boys. J.D. Lancaster, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gene Lancaster, was taken to Hermiston in the early morning of Feb. 4 for treatment of a bleeding nose. Mrs. Leo Crabtree accom panied Evelyn on the trip. Cauterization was necessary to stop the bleeding. Carley Bergstrom was home for the weekend. Carley is attending Mt. Hood Com munity College. Menus for lone Schools, Feb. 11-15; Monday, Lasagne, salad, hot rolls, jelly, fruit; Tuesday, scalloped potatoes, hamburger, vegetable, brownies; Wednesday, tacos, salad, chocolate pudding; Thursday, hamburgers, glori fied rice, vegetable, cup cakes; Friday, sandwiches, soup, relishes, cookies. The lone Junior High bas ketball team traveled to Echo Jan. 31. The B team lost its first game of the season, 20-26. Scoring for lone were Stefani 7, LaRue 7. T. Sherer 4, B. Kincaid 1, and Krebs 1. The A team lost 15-34. Scoring were McCabe 4. Lindstrom 5. White 2. Carlson 2. McElligott 2. The lone School Advisory Committee will meet Feb. 7, 7 p.m. in the high school library. The time is one hour earlier than usual. Teacher contract renewals will be considered. Anyone wishing to appear before the committee should contact Mrs. Katherine Lind strom before the meeting. The first meeting of the lone United Church Auction and Barbecue committee will be held Feb. 7 at 7:30 p.m. in the church basement. Mr. and Mrs. Keith Rea are co-chairman -of the annua! even!. Mrs. Clair Walter had major surgery performed on her hand Jan. 31. The middle linger of her left hand was removed. She is in Pendleton Community Hospital. Susan Fitterer, Pendleton, was a house guest of Mr. and Mrs. Lee Pettyjohn over the weekend. Susan, Pat, Donna and Dawn Peterson went to Portland where they met Marianne Pettyjohn and Cheri Carlson. The trip was to coordinate plans for Mari anne's forthcoming wedding to Joe Sharp on March 26. Mrs. Ed Bristow is a patient in The Dalles General Hos pital. She expects to return home in a few days following some medical testing. George Griffith, Cecil, is recuperating following an ac cident which fractured his hip. Bill Gates is an outpatient at St. Mary's Community Hos pital in Walla Walla. He is living at 315 N. 4th St. Bill is receiving cobalt treatments five days a week. He was able to be home over the weekend last week. Dick Krebs. Cecil, was a patient in Good Shepherd Hospital in Hermiston for four days. He entered the hospital on Tuesday and returned home on Friday. Mrs. Rod Murray has re turned to her home after a 10-day stay in Good Shepherd Hospital. Rod s mother stayed with the Murray children while Meg was in the hospital. Frank Davis Avers. 23, Heppner, was placed in Uma tilla County Jail. Pendleton, Thursday. He was arrested on a bench warrant charging him with failure to pay a $305 fine for driving while under the influence of liquor in December. Simon Winters of Lexington, who was instrumental in getting the post started, was elected commander. Winters, a Vietnam veteran, is em ployed by Morrow County Grain Growers. Tommy Campbell has been( appointed by Commander Ralph Swisher to act as advisor to the new post. Thirty members were signed and a complete slate of officers elected. Officers elected or aDDoint ed were: Martin Potter, senior vice-commander; Frank Robinson, junior vice-commander; Gary Kemp, quar termaster; Bill Baker, judge advocate; and Steve Beards ley, surgeon. Trustees are (three years), Harry O'Don nell; (two years), James Fraser; (one year), Matthew Hughes; Dean Kindle, adju tant; Mike Moore, guard; and Clayton Sweek, OOD. "This was a hastily insti tuted post, but there is plenty of enthusiasm and good young leadership. We are confident they will go far," said Commander Swisher. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Wallace. Santee, Ca., are the parents of a son, Mitchell Lavern, born Dec. 24. Wallace is the son of Mrs. Colleen Padberg. Heppner. Sandlin rites here Friday Funeral services for Mrs. Bessie C. Sandlin, 84, who died Feb. 3 in Newberg (Ore.) Community Hospital, will be held Friday, Feb. 8, 1 p.m., at the First Christian Church. Rev. G.E. Nikander ' will officiate, with Attrell's New berg Funeral Chapel in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Sandlin was born in Heppner, Feb. 14, 1889, the daughter of Albert and Emma Osmin. She attended school Rites for Margaret Weaver Margaret F. Weaver, 76, of lone, died in Pioneer Memo rial Hospital, Heppner, on Jan. 29. She was born March 17, 1897 in Appleton, Wise. She mar ried Grover Cleveland Wea ver, Oct . 1 1, 1918 in Waukegan, 111. They had resided in lone for 10 years. She was a member of St. Williams Cath olic Church. She is survived by husband, Grover, lone; daughters, Pa tricia Ferguson, Silverton, and Elizabeth Fleming, Mi kokie, Wise; a son, David R. Weaver, Salem; six grand children and two great-grandchildren. Rosary was recited Jan. 31 qt 7 : 30 p.m . Funeral Mass was held Feb. 1 at 10 a.m. in St. Williams Church. Officiating was Rev. John O'Brien. Vault interment was in High View Cemetery. and grew up in Heppner, living here until the family moved to Drain, Ore., in 1934. She was married to Bob Owen, who was later killed in a logging accident. In 1930 she was married to Artis Sandlin, who died in 1959. At Drain they opened a community grocery store and operated it for approximately 30 years. Survivors include a brother, Alton Osmin of Heppner; a daughter-in-law, Georgie A. Owen, Fernwood, Idaho; and five grandchildren. Interment will be at Hepp ner Masonic Cemetery. Lucy Peterson, Heppner, the woman who claims that she is always losing some thing, has lost something again. This time she has lost her favorite charm bracelet somewhere in Heppner. The bracelet has eight gold discs and three gold faces, with the names and dates of her grandchildren on them. Any one finding the bracelet is sked to call 676-9131. Ruggles, Pendle ton, died Friday, Feb. 1, at Pendleton Community Hos pital. He was born at Moro, Ore,, and had lived in Wasco and Sherman Counties most of his life. He had resided in Pendleton since 1970. He was a member of Eureka Lodge 121, AF & AM, Moro. The board offered the or ganization a 35-65 division of net profits from the operation, with no overhead expense or additional capital, on a one year basis. The board also approved three concession stands to be operated by the American Association of University Women, on the same division of profit formula. In other business, the board voted to hold the coronation of the Morrow County Rodeo Queen and Court In June. The Soroptimist Club of Heppner will be in charge of the event.
