Baker, and his mother, Mrs. Catie Padberg. Mr. and Mrs. George Miller, former Cecil residents, visited at the Catie Padberg home Tuesday enroule to (heir home in Arizona. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Palmer entertained with a cord party Sunday at their home. Present were Mr. and Mrs. Bob Harrison. Mr. and Mrs Mike Pulmer, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Marshall. High was won by Mr. and Mrs. Harrison. The Rebekah and Odd Fellow card party Saturday was well attended, with five tables present. The next party will be Jan. S. Doordnon There were seven tables of pinochle in play at the card party held Tuesday of last week at the Greenfield Grange Hall, sponsored by the Wom en's Activity of the grange. Mrs. W.G. Seehafer was hostess. High prize was won by Ruth Bentley of Irrigon, and second high went to Mrs. Albert Warnock. Fa ye Anderson and Mrs. Sam Becks of Arlington received the traveling pi nochle prizes. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Ball left forTacoma, Monday to attend the funeral of Ball's brother-in-law, George Urlacher, who died Dec. 1. The funeral was to be Wednesday. The Ball's also were going to Seattle to visit at the home of Mrs. Ball's son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Mallery. Mrs. Leo Root has returned home from several days visit in Wasco at the home of her son and daughter in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Root. Visitors at the homes of Mrs. Ralph Earwood and Mr. and Mrs. Don Downey during the weekend included Mr. and Mrifc Kenneth Earwood of -Torance, Ca., Mr. and Mrs. William Califf and children Matthew, Renee, Vicky and Murk and Mr. and Mrs. Steve Califf and daughter Sarah of Estacada, Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph Steinke and Mr. and Mrs. Otto Steinke and son Kenneth of Arlington, Mrs. Clifford woods of Roseburg, Mr. and Mrs. Larry Steinke and son Jeffrey of Pendleton, Mrs. and Mrs. Keith Filer and children Ruth and Ronald of Amboy, Wn., Lt. and Mrs. Joe Sheadel of Neah Bay, Wn., Mr .-.and Mrs. Joe Heasley of Vancouver, Mr. and Mrs. N.L. Parrish of Oregon City, Roger Sheadel of Ridgefield, Wn., and Mrs. Lois Croft of Portland. Boardman received 3.43 inches of rain during the month of November, which is about half of the year's total rainfall, according to Larry Phillips, watermaster. Irrigon Recent visitors in Irrigon who were here to attend the wedding of John Rand and Donna Reese in Hermiston included his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. O.C. Pettit of Lodi. Ca. They were guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Dan Creamer and family. His uncle. David Rand, and Mrs. Rand of Portland were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Batie Rand. His father and stepmother, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Rand, were dinner guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Batie Rand, who are John Rand's gntndparents. Don Meyers of Roseburg spoke at the Assembly of God in Irrigon representing the Gideon Society, which is active in placing Bibles and testaments in schools, hos ptals. motels and hotels. r. I LOan for your l production needs- crop, Let's talk! Senator Ken Jernstedl of Hood River spoke to SO Lion's Cub member at the banquet dinner Saturday night in Irrigon. The Lion'i dub were cele brating their 10th anniversary as a community service club. Bill Parker was honored with a plaque won in a membership drive when he was president of the club several years ago. It was presented to him from Past International Director Vern Hawn. Charter President La vern Christiansen was master of ceremonies. Pete House is now president of the club. Bill Steagell presented floral arrangement to the club in memory of James McRae, a former member who died two weeks ago. The Irrigon Lions have been active in community service. Their 4th of July celebration is well known in the area. They also sponsor the Easter egg hunt and usually have a Christmas tree and treats for local children. The women's auxiliary serves meals and are very active in community service. Their main charity, of course, is to help the School for the Blind, but eye glasses have been provided for local people who could not afford them. The Auxiliary President is Joyce Pennock; Marge Chris tiansen is secretary. The skating party sponsored by the 4-H Community Club was termed a huge success. There were 96 4-H members and their friends from Irrigon and Boardman who attended Thursday party in Hermi-ston. Kinzua Doubledeck Card Club was held Thursday evening at the home of Vi Slinkard. High went to Marilyn Bailey with second higM going to Naomi Rice. Pinochles were won by Virginia Sitton and Virginia Kelso. Grand high was won by Naomi Rice. Second grand high was won by Vi Slinkard. Others playing for the evening were Lavelle Jellick, Rita - Bowman- and Bonnie Camp bell. ; Friendship Club held its Christmas dinner and card party Saturday evening in the first grade room at the school. A turkey and ham dinner was prepared by the ladies, with an evening of cards after wards. High was won by John Nelson and Barbara Heim. Second high was won by John Weaser and Sue Mattison, and pinochles were won by Troy Carey and Deena Reid. Those enjoying the evening were Mr. and Mrs. John Nelson, Mr. and Mrs. John Weaser, Mr. and Mrs. Troy Carey, Mr. and Mrs. John Jackson, Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Samples, Mr. and Mrs. Allen Heim, Mr. and Mrs. Steve Conlee, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Reid, Mr. and Mrs. Dave Mattison, Mr. and Mrs. Herb Luper, Mr. and Mrs. Bill McMinn and Mr. and Mrs. Danniel Bell. Camp Five held its annual community Christmas dinner Saturday evening at the Elks Club in Condon. Those at tending were Mr. and Mrs. Herschel Murdock, Mr. and Mrs. Guy Van Arsdale, Mr. and Mrs. Mike Todd. Mr. and Mrs. Denzil White, Mr. and Mrs. Don Stanton, Mr. and Mrs. Bud Dunlap, and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Williamson. The Camp Five Womens Club will hold its Community Card party Saturday night, Dec. 8, at 8 o'clock. There will be no gift exchange this year. There will be a door prize this year instead. Mr. and Mrs. Carroll Size more of Portland became parents of a daughter. Stacie Lee, Nov. 29 at Emanuel Hospital. Grandparents are Mrs. Wilma Mabe of Kinzua and Mr. and Mrs. Dee Size more of The Dalles. Mr. and Mrs. Grady Rogers went to Hood River Friday for a medical checkup for Grady. Agricultural dairy, livestock. Mr. and Mrs. Don Pike and Mrs. Mattison went to Port land Friday where they brought Mrs. Harvey Spivey home from after a week's stay in the hospital. Herb Luper went to Arling ton Monday where he met his mother, Mrs. Hattie Luper of Portland. Mrs. Luper will be visiting for a few days. Mrs. Guy Van Arsdale and Steve went to Portland Mon day on business. Visiting Mr. and Mrs. Jiggs Bowman and family this weekend were Sara Bowman of Portland and Dave Riney of Salem. Mr. and Mrs. Don Slinkard went to Portland Friday evening on business. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Rice and Mr. and Mrs. Lee Bailey went to The Dalles Saturday on business. Home this weekend to visit her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dempsey Simms, was Kathy Nelson of Portland. Mrs. Vernon Cecil and Mrs. Chuck Mitchell and Wind! went to John Day Monday for eye care. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Norris of Kinzua, Mr. and Mrs. Bud Fulton and Mr. and Mrs. Dan Walters of Fossil went to Bend over the weekend. Earl, Bud, and Dan attended a district council meeting as delgates from Local 2916. Mrs. Lena M. Knovles dies at 81 Lena M. Knowles, 81, died Nov. 20 in Hermiston. She was born April 14, 1892 in Heppner, the daughter of Albert and Emma Osmin. She was an 11-year old survivor of the 1903 flood. She was married to Claude G.""Knowles, a cook and chef, in Heppner. They had Iwo children, Vernon A., born Nov. 2, 1919, and Helen J. Knowles White, born March 25, 1927. The Knowles lived in Hepp ner until 1943 when they moved to Montana. They returned to Hermiston in 1947. Survivors include a son, Vernon, Hermiston; a daugh ter, Helen White, Hermiston; a brother Alton L. Osmin, Heppner; a sister, Bessie Sandlin, Cottage Grove; two grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Services were held Nov. 23 at Burns Mortuary Chapel, Hermiston. Rev. Charles Ash by officiated. Pacific Northwest Bell Colorful pioneer dies in Arizona Dwight Misner, 95, former area resident, died in Mesa, Aril., Nov. 27. He was born in Canada on June 25, 1878. In 1898 ha married Grace Neal in Mich igan. They had two daughters, Mrs. Greta Gabbert and Beulah Mankin. He was preceded in death by Grace, who died in June. 1967, and a daughter, March S, 1973. In 1912. Mr. Misner brought his family to Oregon and to Morrow County in 1917. He farmed north of lone until 1933. Mr. Misner was mentioned in Homesteads and Heritages by Giles French as a farmer who used 38 head of horses in one harness. Also, he was pictured with his unusually (X)NNORS VISIT IN GOLDENDALE Mr. and Mrs.' Nelson Connor and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Dean Connor and four chil dren, and Albert Connor, their father, all of Heppner, went to Goldendale, Wn., for an an nual family Thanksgiving dinner at the home of Morgan Connor. Mr. and Mrs. Dean Connor and family stayed the night in Goldendale. The next day they went to Beaverton to see Mrs. Connor's father, Lincoln Nash, who was staying at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Parsons, while receiving medical treatment. Mr. and Mrs. Archie Pad berg entertained with a dinner for family members Nov. 26. Present were her son and his family, Eldon Tucker, Tanya, Tammie, David, Theresa White and Sabrina. Until he was 91 years old, he drove his car and rode in the 2no-mile horseback trail ride in Washington. He retired to Mesa, Ariz., a few years ago, where he remained active until last year. ' Survivors include a daugh ter, Greta Gabbert, Mesa, Ariz., four grandchildren, and numerous great -grandchil-' dren and great -great -grand children.
