s Uqsco flop Rirasodo, 22-8 Penalties and poor field position cost he Riverside Pirates their hopes for a first conference win this season. Riverside lost to Wasco Coun ty J2-8 last Friday in Maupin. Jim Graham scored the only touchdown for the Pirates in the third quarter, and put the Pirates ahead of Redsides, 8-7. Riverside were plagued by penalties and were forced to give up the hall. The Redsides took advantage and scored a touchdown late in the third quarter and led the Pirates 154. Wasco County hung onto the lead and scored again in the fourth quarter to capture the win. 'lUe winning Redsides lead the rushing with 229 yards and the Pirates trailed with 220 yards. Riverside threw the ball three timtr and com pleted one pass. Wasco County completed two passes out of seven with one interception. "Jim Graham intercepted the pass and played a good defensive and offensive game for the Pirates." stated Pirate Coach Mike Wetherell. Other Riverside plavers who played jtood defensive and offensive game were Jerry Zielinski, Chris Snyder, Mark Mesteth and Jerry Donovan. Riverside entertains top ranked Condon Friday at its Homecoming beginning at 2 p.m. at Don Hendrix Memo rial Field. Bonfire kicks off Homecoming A bonfire and serpentine will officially kick-off Home coming activities at Riverside High School. Boardman, this evening. The burning of the "R" will take place at 7 p.m. behind the Riverside High gymnasium. A serpentine and pep rally will accompany the bonfire. The Homecoming game will feature the No. 1 ranked Condon Blue Devils meeting the Riverside Pirates, Friday, at- 2 p.m. at Don Hendrix Memorial Field. The Queen of the 1973 Riverside Homecoming will be crowned during half-time. Earlier in the week, four senior girls were selected for the Homecoming Court: Bob bie Acock, Sherie Partlow, Sharon Stewart and Debby Kieth. The Queen and Court will be honored during the Home coming dance Friday evening. The dance will begin at 9 p.m. at Riverside High School. Oocrdmcn By MARY LEE MARLOW Graveside services were held for Leonard E. Bock, 60, of Boardman Friday at II a m. at Boardman Riverview Cemetery, Pastor Neil King of the Boardman Community ' Church conducted the ser vices, with Sweeneys Mor tuary in charge. Mr. Bock died Oct. 8 at his home. He was bom Aug. 13, 1913 at Lisbon, N.D. He was a retired railroad switchman. He came to Portland, Ore., in 1950, and was married to Dora Spellman O'Day in Vancou ver, Wn June 4, 1951. They lived in Portland until 1965 when they moved to Seattle, where they lived for seven years, coming to Boardman in March, 1972. Survivors include the widow of Boardman; one son, Joe, of Boardman; three daughters. Sharon Moe, Minnesota, Glo ria Trippel, Everett, Wn., and Laura Conn of Harding, Mont.; three sisters, Minnie Hansen. Albert Lee, Minn., Freda Sloane. Des Moines, Iowa, and Lulu Peterson, Farmington, Minn.; 17 grand children and six great-grandchildren. Carol Moon, postmaster, announces that a new type of money order will now be sold at the postoffice, and patron will be able to buy a single money order up to $300. Two new stamps are on sale at the local post office. The 8-cent . Colonial Drummer commemorative stamp went on sale in New Orleans, La., Sept. 28 and here Sept. 29. It is one of the "Rise of the Spirit of Independence Series." The second one is the Angus Cattle Commemorative 8-cent stamp, the first in the Rural America Series, went on sale Oct. 5 first at St. Joseph, Mo., and here, Oct. 6. 100 years ago four black Angus bulls arrived in Victoria, Kans., from Scot- Irrigon HKPPNER (ORE.) Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Hoffman and Jack McEntire. The Women's Activity Committee of Greenfield Grange met Wednesday of last week at the home of Mrs. Ben Donovan. Mrs. Rollin Bishop was a guest. The first night card party will be held at the hall Oct. 26 with Mrs. Frank Marlow and Hazel Carpenter hostesses. It will start with potluck supper at 6:30 o'clock. Hostesses for the day parties for next four weeks will be: Oct. 16, Mrs. Chub Warren; Oct. 23, Mrs. Ben Donovan; Oct. 30, Hazel Carpenter; Nov. 6. Mrs. Joe Tatone; Nov. 13, Mrs. Roy Ball. Announcement was made of Pomona Grange to be held at Lexington, Oct. 27. The nexting meeting will be at the home of Hazel Miller, Nov. 14. at 12:30 p.m. The Boardman Tillicum Club met at the home of Mrs. Ralph Skoubo Tuesday night of last week with Mrs. Ron Daniels co-hostess. Mrs. Lawrence West of St. Croix in the Virgin Islands, visiting here at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Rupert Kennedy, presented a program on St. Croix, and on St. Lucia in the West Indies, showing slides of both places. The club voted to again sponsor the Camp Fire Girls group this year. The club was assisting with the Mobil Cancer Unit here, Oct. 16. Mrs. Ronald Black and Mrs. Frank Bates to be in charge, assisted bv Mrs. Gary Petteys, Mrs. Jerry Peck, Mrs. Bill Bates, Mrs. Daniels, Mrs. Kennedy, Mrs. Carroll Donovan and Mrs. Dewey West Jr. Passing out handbills were Mrs. Donovan and daughter, Carol Ann, Mrs. Bates and Diane Black. Mrs. Stan Henkle, Mrs. Ben Donovan and Mrs. Vernon Russell were to cook and serve lunch for the unit staff. The next meeting will be at the home of LaVern Partlow, Oct. 23, with Zoe Billings as co-hostess. This will be the club's 25th anniversary, and special plans are being made for the event. There were five tables of pinochle in play at the card party at the Greenfield Grange Hall Tuesday of last week, sponsored by the Wom en's Activity Committee of the grange. Mrs. Donald Baker was hostess. High prize was won by Mrs. Arthur Allen and second high went to Mrs. Ed Kuhn. Mrs. Kuhn and Mrs. Hazel McRae of Irrigon received the tra veling pinochle prizes. Mrs. Mary Fichter returned home from Good Shepherd Hospital in Hermiston last Thursday after being a patient there a week. Fire destroyed barn and six tons of hay Friday. The Irrigon Rural Fire Depart ment answered the call, but was unable to save the barn that belonged to Hermie Jackson, about a mile west of Irrigon. Funeral services were held for Lula Graybeal, 86, Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Baptist Church, by the Rev. George Hash, a former pastor. Birdie Stewart, a niece from La Grande, sang accompanied by LaVelle Partlow at the organ. She is survived by her husband, Dave C, Irrigon; two daughters, Myrtle Hag ery, Watsonville, Ca., and Nellie Irene Russell, Tampa Fla.; sister, Viva Pryor, Walla Walla. The Graybeals have lived in Irrigon the past 27 years. She was a member of the Baptist Church. Interment was at Desert Lawn Memorial Cem etery. Burns Mortuary was in charge of arrangements. The Assembly of God plans a potluck dinner for Friday, Oct. 19, at 6:30 p.m., in the parsonage basement. Following the dinner Pastor Robert Schmoll will show colored slides of his trip through California, Nevada, Arizona and New Mexico. Last month he and Mrs. Schmoll took a truck load of gifts and supplies to the American Indians and Home Mission stations in these states. The gifts were from the Oregon District of the Assemblies of God, and were gathered by the Womens Missionary Council. The community is invited to attend. An Assembly of God Youth group sang at the Hope Lutheran Church in Heppner on a recent Sunday evening. They were under the direction of LaVelle Partlow, who also accompanied them at the piano. Seaman JO 2 and Mrs. Gene Gollyhorn Is the former Jana Gollyhorn and daughter are Everett. Both are graduates of stationed in the Philippines with the Navy. They expect to spend two years there. Mrs. Riverside High School and attended BMCC.
