I73 lone Jr. -Sr. Banquet Features Smorgasbord Boar dm an Club Has Scholarship Breakfast llv CASSANDRA CIIAI'KL The annual Jr. & Sr. Banquet was held April 27 from 7:30 to IO:oo p.m. The banquet was a Scandi navian Smorgasbord and its theme was, "Land of the Setting Sun." Speaker for the banquet was Pastor Mark Johnson of Valby and hope lutheran Churches. , The honored guests were the seniors, their parents and their advisor, Mr. Gordon Meyers, and Mrs. Meyers, Mr. and Mrs. Hon Daniels. Mr. and Mrs. Darrell James of Turner, Ore gon. Mr. and Mrs. Ernie Teal and the advisory hoard. Entertainment for the even ing were dances of Scandi navian countries. They were performed by Cindi Martin, Aaron Klmger. Mike Warren, Sherri Wilson. Barbara Palmer, Gayle McNary. Tom Gates, and Joel Peterson. Everyone had a delightful evening. lone Garden flub plant Side w ill lie held this Thursday May 5 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Coffee and pie will be served all day. Proceed Aid lone Delegate A pinochle party sponsored by Runehgrass Kchekuh Lodge was held at the Willows Grange hall April 27. The proceeds w ill go to The I'mted Nations Pilgrimage of Youth tour to Cassy Chapel as the delegate from lone. There were I! tables High was won by Irene Crabtree and Lee Palmer, low by Irene Dalzell and Floyd Borman. Traveling pinochle was w on by Gene Lancaster and Martha Van Schoiack. Re freshments were served. Gone l-'ikhin' Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Hams and family, accompanied by Mark Tulhs and Gail Herr mann, went fishing on the North Fork of the John Day. I'l.i lUy Winner Anita Plainer came home from the Wranglers Play day with her share of rihtxms. She won 1st in barrels - 1st at Stake racing and 2nd in figure 8. Runehgrass Rchekah Uidge will meet this Thursday at the home of Gladvs Drake. Mr. and Mrs. Donald Thom son have recently moved to lone. Mrs. Thomson is a daughter of Mrs. Elmer Ladd Mr. and Mrs. Berl Akers spent the weekend in Portland visiting their son and family. Mr. and Mrs Robert Akers. Jr. - Sr. I'roni "This Side of Paradise' w as the theme of this year's Jr. - Sr. Prom which was in the old gym on April 28. The theme song was "Pieces of April", and the music was by the Reflections from Portland. The decorations were set as an old fashioned park scene, and much credit goes to Mickey Hoskins who planned all the scenery. There was an after-Prom breakfast at the home of Mark Rietmann. Jr. Class Pres. Mrs. Bob Roberts and her three youngest children are all patients at the Good Shepherd Hospital at Hermiston. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Denison of San Jose, Calif, spent 2 days last week visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs, Adon Hamlett. Mr I Vinson and Mr. Hamlett were school chums at Fremont High in Sunnyvale. Calif. H MARVIF.F. MA It LOW The Roardnian Tillicum Club held its annual Scholarship Breakfast Saturday morning at the home of Mrs Ronald Black, Co-hostesses were Mrs. Stan Raueh. Mrs Tun Haugen, Mrs. Bill Hates. Zoe Hillings. LaVern Parllow and Mrs Gail Mc Carl.V, The scholarship will be presented to a Riverside grad uating senior this year. Special guests "were Mrs. Wile Knighten. president of the 7th District of the Oregon Federation of Women's Clubs, and a Mrs. Haven, both of Moro. Others present included Mrs Frank Bates. Mrs Ron Daniels, Mrs Carroll Donovan, Mrs. Stan lleukle, Mrs. Roy Partlow, Mrs. Pete Peterson, Mrs. Vernon Russell. Mrs. Walter Hayes, Mrs. Ralph Skoubo, Mrs. Dewey West, Jr. and Mrs, Joe Bartlett. The next meeting of the club will be at the home of Mrs. Partlow May 8 at 8 p.m. Boardman residents who at tended the golden wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Alex Jones in Hermiston Sun day afternoon were Mr. and Mrs. Chub Warren. Mrs. Delsie Chapel attended a meeting of the Retired Teach ers" Association in Pendleton on Saturday. Tea was G.A.A. Mothers' Tea The annual Mother's sponsored bv the G.A.A. held April 30 at 2:00 p.m. Entertainment included a read ing by Melanie Ball and Donna Fiack. modeling of Prom dresses by eighteen girls, and the song, "Exodus", sung by David Warren, Kent Gutierrez. Mike Warren, and Phil Carlson, accompanied by Greg Wilson. After the entertainment ice cream and cookies were served. Delegates at Ptld. Conference lone delegates to the annual assembly of the Oregon Confer ence of the United Church of Christ at the First Congrega tional Church in Portland April 27 - 29 were Mrs. Victor Rietmann. Mrs. Fredrick Mar tin. Don Bristow, Rev. Wm. Arthur, and youth representa tive. Miss Helen Bryne. Fred rick Martin served as a small group leader to determine priorities at the convention. Don Bristow assisted in the Friday evening communion service. Bristow was elected to the conference Executive Board representing the Mission and Outreach Dept. and Martin was elected to the Priorities and Evaluation Committee. They will meet with the conference council representatives from the local churches in the Oregon Conference at Camp Adams May 18 and 19 to plan the year's . work. lone representatives are Bob Rietmann, Mark Riet mann, Mrs. Fredrick Martin and Don Bristow. A qualified observer of the international scene and guest speaker on the theme "Dare We Be the People of God?", was Dr. David Stowe, Executive Vice Pres. of the National Board for World Ministries. Birthday Kelly Pettyjohn celebrated her 10th birthday with a party at the home of her grandmother, Mrs. Helen Pettyjohn. Her guests were the girls in her class and her Aunt Diana Hanes. and family. Grange Initiations Willows Grange will meet Sunday to confer the degree at 4 30 in the afternoon, the 1st and 2nd degree will be held after which there will be a potluck super. After the supper the 3rd and 4th degree will be given. Willows Grange would like to announce that if any of the other granges have candidates to initiate they would be welcome to join them for initiation. Mr, and Mrs. Lewis Halver sen went to Salem over the week end to get a Hereford bull they had purchased there. . . .Mr. and Mrs. Paul Pettyjohn went to Yakima last Friday to attend a Mobil distributors' meeting. Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Halver sen spent Easter weekend visiting Mr. Halvorsen's brother, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Halvorsen, who lives in Med-ford. The last card party for the winter series was held at the Greenfield Grange hall Tuesday of last week w ith Mrs. Bill Bates hostess The parties have been sponsored by the Women's Activity Committee of the grange. Grand prizes were given to Mrs. Walter Hayes for high and Mrs. Walter Wyss for second high. They received vases brought from Japan by Mrs. Arthur Allen on her recent trip there. There were five tables in play and high prize for the day went to Mrs. Dewey West. Jr. and second high to Goldie Woelpern of Arlington. Zoe Billings and Mrs Pete Peterson received the traveling pinochle prizes. Parties will be continued through the summer, but no hot lunch will be served. Mr. and Mrs. Gene Lancaster and Mr. and Mrs. Leo Crabtree spent Sunday fishing at Bull Prairie. New Mind Singers The New Mind Singers will be in lone again May 5 & 6. There w ill be a concert Saturday night and special singing Sunday-morning. Mr and Mrs. Rupert Kennedy spent the weekend in Portland visiting at the home of their son and daughter-in-law. Mr. and Mrs John Kennedy. Boardman Budgets Revenue Funds The City of Boardman budget committee met Apr. 24 and considered the Revenue Shar ing Funds as allocated to the City. It was the committee's decis ion to budget the funds for Housing and Community Devel opment in the amount of $9,000 and Recreation in the amount of S2:ti;. This is $2tMi9 for Housing and Community Development, 75 percent for construction and 25 percent for land acquisition, and sm for Recreation, 100 percent for equipment, for the entitlement period Jan 1. 1973 to June 30. 1973. Columbia Basin Completes Policy Study I INTEREST PAID DAILY The Columbia Basin Board of Directors completed a study of "general policies" at their meeting on April 26. 1973. The Board has worked on establishing a policy manual at regular and special meetings over the past five months. Those elected were Mrs. Fredrick Martin, Pres., Mrs. Roy W. Lindstrom, Vice Pres., and Mrs. Victor Riet mann re-elected Sec.-Treas. It was reported that 90 attended the Easter Breakfast of which Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Nelson were general chairmen assisted by Rev. and Mrs. Wm. Arthur and Mr. and Mrs. Bob Rietmann. The table committee was Mrs. Norman Nelson, Mrs. Van Hubbard and Mrs. Robert Montgomery. Mrs. Kenneth Smouse pre sented the worship and pro gram following the theme, "As You Go, Affirm Your Faith".
