Mr and Mrs John Bray All meetings are scheduled for the first Sat of every month New Reporter, Teena Lindstrom ,i 'i Awards given to the 6 year members of 4-H at the North End Family F un Night was a bracelet Mary Ann Proctor and Donise Henkle were both present to receive theirs Boardman Spud Days Success The first annual Spud Days Festival was voted a big success by all who attended and saw the parade last Saturday afternoon as it wound its way through the streets of Boardman Gene Miller, manager of Morrow Produce Company, was crowned Spud King at the kick-off no host banquet heid Friday night at the Dodge City Inn The-e were 34 present Wayne Horisor. was master of ceremonies Out of town guests included Judge and Mrs Paul Jones of Heppner. Mr and Mrs Ray Dunn of Oregon Potato. Inc. of Umatilla. Mr and Mrs James Westover, publishers of the Pendieton Record and M: and Mrs Kenneth Jones of Lexington. Judge Jones was principal speaxer. speaking on agricultural developments m the area, with emphasis on potatoes Dunn also spoke briefly . Pastor Neil King of the Boardman Community Church gave a recitation in the form of an invocation Jim Havnaer was recognized for his efforts in assisting with the promotion of the festival. Kenneth Jones received the door prize, donated by Morrow Produce. Following the banquet all these present visited the .Nomad Restaurant and the Hitchm' Post. Joe Tatone was grand marshal! of the parade Satur day afternoon Earl Trudeau w as parade chairman assisted by Mrs, Trudeau The parade was led by the Honor Guard and the American flag carried by Cub Scouts Gene McKee. Sean Harvey. David Brasel and Joe Daltoso with the Cub Master, Rod Duncan march ing behind them. The rest of the Cub Scouts rode on the city fire truck with Pastor Neil King, driver The rest of the parade was made up of the 4-H Horse manship Club, and other riding groups Clowns, bicycle liders and floats King Gene Miller w as also in the proces sion After the parade the 90 children in the parade were treated to ice cream at the C & D Drive Ir., donated by Mr. and Mrs. Gene Tnirr.ball. Barbecued namturgers and baked potatoes were served free at tne Greenfield Grange hall with freewill donations received 0er lmj were fed Serving were Mrs Donald Baker. Mrs Jim Havnaer. Mrs Dennis Grigsby, Mrs Dan Parris and Mrs Rick Haberlach. Donations for the dinner were by Arthur Allen, hall rent; Carnation Company, butter: P.D.Q Company , sour cream; Whitey Schroth of Hermiston. the pop: Morrow Produce, potatoes; Dodge City Inn. barbecue sauce The food was cooked by Mrs Bob Reed, cook at Dodge City. Saturday night tnere was dancing with live music at the Hitchin' Post. King Gene Miller was presented with a hugh trophy to commem orate the first Spud Festival. Mr. and Mrs Bob Ballard of Walnut Creek. Calif were on a trip through Oregon and stopped m Eugene wondering if there w as anyone m that city who could tell them where his old friend lived, if he were in Oregon They stopped at the city hail and asked the clerk there, and she in lure called the city manager, who said he knew Mayor West, since he is president of the Oregon League of Cities The Bal lard's journeyed on to Board man and called the West home andspent twodays with them here Which goes to prove that it is a small world after all when you can stop in a city the size of Eugene and find out where someone lives in the little town of Boardman Gene Alien of Weston was a weekend visitor at the home ot his parents.
