Kennedy staled The move is needed to make way for the site of the Portland General Electric Company nuclear power plant a the Atomic Energy Com mission ha told the electric company that the nuclear plant and a bombing range would not be compatible Kennedy also pointed out that the relocation is nettled not only (or the nuclear plant, but for development in in tensified (arming He said Morrow County has 13.000 acres under irrigation this year and will have an an ticipated 23.010 acres irrigated next year. Should Portland General Electric be unable to build at Boardman. a spokesman (or the company has said they have other site investigations underway in Eastern Oregon Among those mentioned were Eight Mile Canyon southeast of Arlington, and Cold Springs and Juniper Canyon. North east of Hermiston The Umatilla County sites would use the coolant water (or irrigation the same as the Morrow and Gilliam county sites Recently Hear Adm. John Tierney visited the Boardman Bombing Range, and accord ing to Herman Winter. Heppner. Fort of Morrow attorney, the admiral was interested in "Smoothing out" some public relations problem in connection with the bomb ing range. The Navy has asked the Stanford Research Institute to study possible other sites for relocation of the range. Members of Greenfield Grange will observe Grange Sunday Oct. 22 by attending Boardman Community Church as a group, followed with a potluck dinner at the grange hall at 1 p.m. The publie ts invited. Tne grange will hold its regular meeting at the hall Oct. 21 at 2 p.m. In the evening members will go to Willows Grange at lone for a potluck supper at 6:30, and visit the grange at the evening session. Five tables of pinochle were in play at the card party held Saturday night at the Green field Grange hall, sponsored by the Women's Activity Committee of the grange. Hostesses were Mrs.. Frank Marlow and Hazel Carpenter. Men's high prize went to Art White, and women's high to Mrs. White. Men's second high was won by Ed Kuhn and the women's by Mrs. Walter Hayes. Andrew Skiles of Hermiston and Mrs. Walter Wyss received the traveling pinochle prizes. The next night party will be held Nov. 18, starting with potluck supper at 6:30. Riverside's Defense Good Riverside played good defense in their game with Echo Thursday afternoon "but not good enough" accord ing to Coach Don Hendrix. "They had a heck of a time beating us". The Cougars were inside the Pirate's 10 yard line three times in the first half but failed to score due to the extra fine defense of the Pirates. Mike Proctor and Darrel Pummel both turned in a good performance. John Graham scored on a 35 yard run and Darrel Pummel scored on a pass from Sielinski. The final score was 12 to 20. Their standing in the Big Sky Conference is 4-2. The Pirates meet Hunt ington at Boardman this Friday at 2:30 p.m. for a non-league game. The Kinzua Kindergarten will hold a bake sale at the Kinzua Merchantile Saturday morning October 7th. The hours will be from nine until twelve o'clock. Mrs. Melba Mitchell will be in charge of the bake sale. Abirthday party was held Sunday for Mark Asher who was eight years old. Those attending the party were Andy Samples. Danny McRoberts, Sherri McMinn. Robbie Hu lett, Nanette Carey, Mike Luper and Lorri Day. Also attending the party was Mrs. Thelnia Dyer of Mayville. Games were played then Mark opened his gifts. Mr. and Mrs. Jiggs Bowman went to Portland over the weekend where they were houseguests of their son Joe. Mr. and Mrs. Red Watts went to The Dalles Saturday for medical care for Red. Mrs. Don Slinkard went to John Day Friday for dental care. Same song (or two years at Heppner and this year the district bought one (or each of the three school attendance areas. Monday when I went to lone (or the school board meeting I went through the gym during their Play Night. Kids and adults were having (un and I SAW the Universal gym that I'd heard of so long Universal Gym may be a trade name but the idea is similar on all of them. Later I got to try a few o( the stations and I am afraid I might be just as enthusiastic as the coaches about it. Like practicing the piano, there would be a certain amount of selMiscipline at working out on it regularly The stations work on pulleys and weights so really you're working against yourself. I can see where it would tone up or tone down these flabby muscles. Weights start out with 10 pounders and gradually work up to HEAVY ones. ...for the football boys. Every year we raise these little sugar pumpkins so our grandboys can have auto graphed jack-o-lanterns. We scratch their names on them while they are green and the scab forms. It costs a mint to send them to Gold Beach... but this week we had better get with it! Mrs. Eldwood Cannan went to Pendleton Wednesday where she brought home Mrs. Linda Lucas from St. An thonys Hospital. Mrs. Betty Murdock went to The Dalles for business, shopping and to have medical attention. Mr. and Mrs. Dale Jones and son Bobby traveled to Heppner Friday for dental care for Dale. Saturday night there was a Hunters Card Party sponsored by the Camp Five Womens Club. The card party was held at the Community Hall. Mrs. Betty Murdock and Mrs. Judy Warming were the hostess for the evening. There wer 15 tables of cards in play. High was won by Rally Spivey and Lewis Madden, Low was won by Liz Moles and Lee Bailey, Pinocholes were won by Terry Todd and Herb Luper. The door prize was won by Denzil White. The hall was decorated for hunting season and stew, biscuits, and crackers were served. Mrs. Judy Warming and children Craig and Jolene went to Prineville Friday for dental care for Craig and Jolene.
