IVarl S. Buck's novel of India, "Mandala". content around a modern princely family of the New India. She explores the mysticism that pervade every day life there. Extrasensory per ception, reincarnation, and spir its are very real concerns of the Maharana Prime Jagat and his family. Prince Jagat is tne virile do cendant of a warrior eiple. For the first 40 years of his life, he has boon content to ex pend his passion on tiger hunts. Political events strip him of his titles and most of his wealth, but not of his sense of respon sibility to the local villagers. As the novel opens, he is em barking upon a scheme to turn an opulent hut ghost -ridden lake palace into a luxury ho tel for foreign tourists. When news reaches him that his only son, Jai, has been kill ed by the Chinese in a border skirmish, his life changes ev en more. Convinced that Jai's spirit lives, Jagat's wife, Moti, will not rest until he sets off to find their son. The journey Is a fateful one, for it involves Jagat with a beautiful and mys terious young American woman. The fatal attraction between East and West, man's search for completion, and the awesome- ness or lime alfect all the characters in "Mandala." 4-H KOOKY COOKS On Thursday, the 21st, we had our first meeting, we met at Mrs. M.
