DOTS JOTS 1 About 3 real fun things hap peqpa to us last weekend. We " took the camper to this news 1 paper workshop at Gearhart so ' we could bring back some of " the Morrow County History ' . I asked if she wanted Binfords and Mort Yes ...so then we got to talk ing. Her husband writes books , and she was to pick him up ' there,, They were from Lynwood . ouui niiu oeiiy junes: wnen sne learned we had lived at Cash mere, Wn, she asked if we knew Dr. Tom McGranahans. Sure enough ... I'd worked with Buelah (Mrs. McGranahan) in League of Washington Voters and young Tom had been our paper boy for the Wenatchee i Daily World. It seemed that Bet- . ,ty's mother and Tom's mother , had planned for them to marry but they didn't. Then to cap it off she said they were going to a newspaper meeting at Gear .,, hart . . . We enjoyed sitting with ; them at the dinner Friday eve , ning. We went a day early to go to M Ilwaco to see if Charlie could locate a long lost friend from the old Normal days at La uranae. ino iuck. no Morton Hogile in the directory and a few inquiries yielded no one who knew him. When we went to dinner, we met Gene and Kay ' Trumbull who live in Boardman. it was me nrsi time i a seen Kay since we moved to Hepp ner. She graduated from Mac Hi the same year our son did. So we enjoyed that visit. Then we went on down to Gearhart, Charlie checked the ' phone directory and there was . TT 11. TY S i a munun nugiie. ne pruveu iu be the one we were looking for and what a warm evening we had in front of their cozy fire place. We froze the rest of the time we were at the beach. Mort was the same Norwegian story teller and brought us up to date with what all he'd done since 1933 when we last saw him . . . like fishing on the Bering Sea, a stint in the Coast Guard, man aging Tongue Point, hunting ana fishing. He's now retired from Tongue Point and works as dispatcher at the Seaside Pn lice Station. We don't intend to lose track of Mort and his charming wife, Sylvia, again. we nope tneya come up to vis it us. Hobby and Figure 8 Dean Strawn nf KAnrnmilr-lr Wn., was again the man to beat in Hobby Class action at the V. mile paved Umatilla Speedway last Saturday evening. Strawn set the fast time, then won the trophy dash and 25-lap main e vent. Strawn v was beaten only once wnen Bill Ingram of Bick leton, Wn., took the checkered in the fast heat. The slow heaf was won by Chuck Heaton, the itacinK Milkman" from Rich land, v. Joe Lugauer of Hermiston set the Figure Eight fast time and finished second in the trophy aasn, dui a Dad luel pump fore ed him to retire for the remain der of the evening. Jim Tomp kins of Hermiston won the tro phy dash and 15-lap main, and Stan Rauch of Boardman, won the 12-lap main event to be come the Figure Eight class point leader.
