Council Report ".The, Council heard a report at its July session from City Mar shal Perry Pummel, on a meet ing He attended at Heppner re garding the City-County Govern ment organizations , recently formed. The Council expressed itself as being unanimously op posed to increase of vehicle li cense fees. In other business, the annual water department report was presented, and 44 services are currently in use. After lengthy discussion of recent pol icy ' regarding use of the city's backhoe, a motion was passed that' would restrict use of the machine. Work outside the city wm only be done in behalf of the city, or in an emergency. Limited work will still be per formed for residents within the city. AH council members were present . Family Reunion on Wind River The family of Mr. and Mrs. Dan Hill, Umatilla, held a fam ily reunion at Beaver Camp on Wind River, Wash, last week end. Attending were Mr. and Mrs. Don Leisrhton and familv. Irrigon, Mr. and Mrs. Roscoe Cook, Mr. and Mrs. Dave Koch and families, Portland, and Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Bunten and family, Hermiston. Camping Mr. and Mrs. Earl Isom spent the weekend camping at Emi grant State Park. On ' Sunday, they attended the Union Pacific Railroad Old Timers annual breakfast, picnic lunch at noon, and other activities throughout the day. Coy spent Monday and Tuesday in Port land at Jennings Lodge, where they attended a Conference of the Northwest District of the Wesleyan Church. , Christian Business Women's Dinner Charlotte Easterling, Marilyn Stewart, Carmine Wilson, Verdie Isom, Donna Eppenbach and La Velle Partlow drove to Board man Tuesday evening to attend a Christian Business Women's dinner meetine at the Board man Grange Hall. The Rev. and Mrs. Wesley Cronk, pastors of the Irrigon Assembly of God fur nished special music for the evening. The Rev. and Mrs. Wesley Cronk spent the week in Hills boro, where they furnished spe cial music for special services conducted at the Assembly of God Church pastored by the Rev. Dave Phillips. Little League Champs The B & I Cubs were Major League Champs of the Colum bia Little League Conference, with 14 wins and 2 losses. The B & I Bombers were Mi nor League Champions of the Columbia Little League Confer ence with 12 wins and 3 losses. Rev. W. F. Coy filled the pul pit at the Irrigon Baptist Church Sunday morning. ' ' ' I Pee Wee Rodeo Irrigon young people compet ing in the Pee Wee Rodeo at Hood River over the weekend. were Deeno and Donald Leigh ton, Wayne Huwe, Dana and Danny Creamer. Wayne Huwe placed 1st in relay, 1st in pony race, 1st in poles and 3rd in the barrels. Donald Leighton placed 1st in relay and 4th in pony race. Dana Creamer placed 2nd in poles and 4th in the pony race, and Danny Creamer placed 2nd in bronc riding and 5th in goat tying. The Leighton and Huwe families, along with Delmer Hug and David of Board man and Boy Hoyt and child ren of Hermiston camped to gether during the rodeo. Ida, they visited the famous Sar a&ota Jungle Gardens, the Ann heuser Busch Gardens in Tampa and drove over the skyline bridge to St. Petersburg to see the ship "Bounty", an exact rep lica of the ship in "Mutiny on the Bounty". On returning, they crossed the Rockies over Mon arch Pass with an elevation of 11,302 feet. In Idaho, they vis ited the Don Paulson family and attended the Council Riding Club's Play Day, where -the Poulson girls won - six . ribbons and the senior princess trophy, Gurleys reported that in the southern states, a pleasant sur prise was "Welcome Stations" where cold cokes, juices, coffee and doughnuts were served free of charge. Visiting in Redmond Mrs. Don Leighton and Dan ette drove to Redmond to visit Mr. and Mrs. Harold Leighton. While in the area, they also vis ited Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Leigh ton and Mrs. Hazel McConn at Terrebonne, and attended the wedding of Bobby Leighton and Dolores Bishop at Prineville. Vicky Gayman is home for a 2-week vacation after spending five weeks in Richland, work ing at the fruit warehouse. Mr. and Mrs. Arlyn Pember and Rivhard of Springfield, Mo., spent the week with her folks, Mr, and Mrs. Harvey Warner. The families met at the home or Mr. and Mrs. Fantells Vron takis and sons Jeffrey and Mi chael at Salem, and from there drove to Lincoln City to spend two days at the beach. Bombing Range The sand blows on the Bomb ing Range have become of great concern to the farmers of that area and travelers of the Bomb ing Range Road. Jr Ihere have been suggestions of widening the Bombing Range Road because of its frequent travel, but still, the problem of the sand blows. Airman Miller, who learned to operate electronic consoles used in space tracking and control systems, Is being assigned f to McChord AFB, Wash. He is as signed to a unit of the Aero space Defense Command which protects the U. J . ; SUMMER: rain after dry spell Methodist Junior Camp Rev. and Mrs. Edwin A. Cut ting spent the week of July 11 17 at Wallowa Lake United Methodist Junior Camp near Joseph, Oregon, where they were teachers and counselors. The campers attending were 4, 5 and 6th graders. . Highlighting tr.e week was a study of the relationship be tween the Ameican Indian and the white man. Other activities included Bible Study, Ecology and hiking. The weather was perfect and a fine spirit among the campers made for a great week. Getting It's never too early to learn the value of farm safety. So act now to insure your safety and the safety of others. fD Boardmaiuj evs Bt MARY LEE MAKLOW BO ARDMAN Members of the Greenfield Grange and the Women's Activity Committee of the Grange held a picnic 'Sun day afternoon at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur-Allen-with 21 present Guests included Mr. and Mrs. Rollin Bishop, W. G. Seehafer, Faye Anderson and Donald Anderson. The group voted to postpone the regular monthly meeting of the grange for August, since it would fall on the last day of the Umatilla County Fair. ' The Women's ' Activity Com mittee held a business meeting and i appointed the following card party hostesses: July 20, Mrs. Walter Hayes; July 27, Ha zel Carpenter; Aug. 3, Mrs. W. G. Seehafer; Aug. 10, Mrs. Chub Warren. It was voted to buy some dishes for the grange hall, also four chests of counter top height for the kitchen. The next meeting of the Com mittee will be at the home of Mrs. Hazel Miller Aug. 11 at 12:30 p.m. The Christian Women's Club and the Christian Business and Professional Women's Council from Pendleton met Tuesday night, July 3, at the Greenfield Grange hall in Boardman with 116 in attendance. Preceding the smorgasbord dinner at 7:15 a tour was conducted of the home of Mr. and Mrs. Rupert Kennedy which has been remod eled from the old Union Pacific Railroad depot in the old town of Boardman to a modern home with antiques throughout. Mrs. Kennedy later spoke to the meeting on antiques and some of the problems they had with their rebuilding. Kathy Fassett of Portland was the speaker of the evening. Mrs. Everett Struckmeier left Sunday to' be a teacher and camp nurse at Camp Wi-Ne-Ma near Cloverdale for the week of July 19-24. Her son, the Rev. Dick Struckmeier of The Dalles, will be the director of the camp. Martha King is also going as a counselor. Mrs. Struckmeier's mother, Mrs. Vern Pettit, accom panied her and will visit at the homes of her sisters, Mrs. Carl Huber at Hillsboro, and Mrs. Russell Parker at Newberg. Visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Harper for a week have returned to their homes. They included Harper's parents, Mr. and Mrs: Walter Harper of Niles, Mich.; his brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Rich ard Hraper of Chicago, 111.; his uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Art Jerchow of Yucca Valley, Calif., and Lt. Com. and Mrs. Henry Thew and daughter of Cove. Children who went included Le ora King, Lori Russell, Patrick Nelson, Gene MeKee, Tonl Moore and Billle Hoag, the latter two of Hermiston. Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Ball and daughters Susan and Linda went to Canada last week to at tend the Calgary " Stampede. Sunday visitors at the Ball home were Mrs. Ball's brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Blakely and children Mike and Karen of Pasco, Wash. Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Hoffman and daughter Linda went to Hood River over the weekend to visit at the home of their son and daugnter-in-iaw, mr. and Mrs. Ted Hoffman. Ricky and Bobble Smith of Hermiston are visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs.' Harold Rash.
