Betty Rood gave a read tog Sunday Breakfast Opens Golf Season The Country Club will have a Kick-off Breakfast Sunday, May 2 for all male members. Breakfast will be served from 7:00 a.m. to 8:13 a m, followed by an 18 hole tournament. Tee off time will be 9:00 a.m. All members are urged to at tend as well as potential mem bers. They are the parents of the wee grand daughter, an added attraction at the party besides the very young and charming honored couple. Mrs. Ratcliff is the former Brenda Steagall. Altha Kirk announced the District Convention of Theta Rho Girls" Club was convening In Pendleton April 17 and had been asked to be one of the officers. Caadi Bannister of Paisley, State president of Theta Rho Assemb ly was to be present and Scot Dannen of Halsey Grand Ruler of Grand Junior Lodge of Ore gon. Other head officers of the different Branches of the Order were also expected. Refreshments for social hour following closing of lodge were served by Altha Kirk. Coperon of Hubbard and his sister Lillian Bell of Topeka, Kan., accompan ied by Mr. and Mrs. John Hays of Portland visited recently with Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Thompson. Mr. Hays is the Thompson's nephew. They have given him their car which he drove back home. In the course of their visit Mr. Coperon was down town several times and went to the Courthouse. He remarked sev eral times how beautiful the courthouse was, inside and out and how friendly the people were who worked at the court house. Camp 5 Card Party Thet regular Camp Women's pinochle group had their party last Wednesday evening with Betty Murdock as hostess. The young child passed away April 15, of diabetes. Services were held April 19 at Salem, with burial in the Zion Memorial Park at Canby. He is survived by his parents, a sister, Kimberly; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Er nest Christopherson of Donald, formerly of lone; Mr. and Mrs. LaRue Barnum of Worden, Wn.; great grandparents, Mrs. Ada Christopherson of Donald; Mrs. Harriet Moses of St George, Wn., and Mrs. Ethel Jepson of Can by. Unusual Refreshments The Friendship Club of Cecil met at the home of Mrs. Bill McConnell on April 21. Every one was commenting how good the refreshments were, and the hostess informed them they had eaten pinto bean pie and sauer-i kraut cake. The next meeting will be a trip to Columbia Cen ter in Pasco, Wn., for a shop ping tour and a no-host dinner. Mrs. Vida Heliker is a patient in the Good Shepherd Hospital in Hermiston. Mrs. Henry Krebs entered the Community Hospital in Pendle ton on Tuesday for major sur gery. Train Trip The first and second grade of the lone school went on a field trip April 26. They went to Hink le where they took the train in to Pendleton. After eating a sack lunch in the park they toured the East Oregonian newspaper office and also the Pendleton Post Office. They were accompanied by Mrs. Robert Rietmann and Mrs. Doug Du buque. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Lindstrom and Christina spent the week end in Portland. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Rietmann and family, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Rietmann and family, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Engleman and family, Mrs. Vera Rietmann and Mrs. Ruby Roberts spent Sunday in Kennewick, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Dean Rohde and fam ily. They helped celebrate the birthdays of the Rohde children, Paul and Mary Jo. Conservation Tour The members of thee 5th grades of lone and Heppner spent Tuesday on a Conserva tion Field Tour. They visited many farms in the area and al so stopped at the City Park in lone to eat their lunch. Princi pal Dennis Brandon accompan ied the group from lone. Mrs. Adon Hamlett, Richard and Tom, spent the weekend in Salem visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Elmo McMillan. Rick Barnett and Jerry' Petty John spent the weekend in Cor- vallls visiting with Jerry's bro ther. Earl Pettyjohn. On April 14, a committee of Auxiliary members met at the Legion Hall and made 50 fav ors for the State Auxiliary Con vention. The Convention will be held in Baker the fourth week in June. Mrs. Byron Bradshaw of Al bany is visiting her daughter and family, Mrs. Charles Doner ty. Mrs. Bradshaw arrived April 27 in order to see her granddau ghter perform in lone Pop Con cert and will stay until Monday. KINZUA NEW Mr and Mrs. Frank DeMeritt and Mrs. Earl Norris went to Heppner Tuesday of last week where Eva and Carol had med ical care. Going to Hermiston Saturday to attend the Hermiston Square Knots Square Dance Jamboree were Mr. and Mrs. Herschel Murdock, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Nor ris, Mr. and Mrs. Verlin Conner, and Mr. and Mrs. Mavin Saddler. May study ' lessons for all Home Extension units in Uma tilla and Morrow counties will be free choice. Units are given one free choice lesson per year to pursue any topic of special interest to them. Br VIRGINIA KELSO KINZUA Mrs. Omar Stubble field went to Pendleton Friday to meet her M year old uncle, Charles Carouthers of Chandler, Ariz, who came to pay the family a visit Mr. Carouthers had flown from Arizona to Pen dleton. Mrs. Lily May Nlstad enter tained her card club Wednes day night at her home. High score was won by Virginia Sit ton with Virginia Kelo winning second high and one of the pi nochles. The second pinochle was won by Margaret McCon nel. Others playing were Mari etta Wilsay, Bonnie Kelson, Marj Boring and Lavelle Jellick. Mrs. Larry O'Neall and Mrs. Doug Sargent and daughter Christy went to The Dalles last Monday where Christy had med ical care. The Sargents and Christy returned to The Dalles Tuesday evening where Christy entered the Mid-Columbia H03 pital for Wednesday surgery to have a cyst removed from her lee. She was brought home Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Danniel Bell and family were business visitors to Pendleton Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. Lee Bogle and sons Josh and Mathew of Twin Falls, Idaho, spent from Mon dav to Thursday visiting with Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Freeman and Mr. and Mrs. O. L. Adams. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Benson took their son Ronald to Port land Wednesday from where he left for Long Beach to join his ship, the USS Bryce Canyon. Mrs. Larry O'Neall and son Chad went to Heppner Wednes day to visit the Lester Garrett family until the weekend. Vernon Thompson of White Earth, N. D., came Thursday to move his brother-in-law, Ralph Thompson to North Dakota, where he will make his home. Mrs. Don Cory. Pat and Dawn were in Bend Wednesday for dental attention.
