Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Coperon of
Hubbard and his sister Lillian
Bell of Topeka, Kan., accompan
ied by Mr. and Mrs. John Hays
of Portland visited recently with
Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Thompson.
Mr. Hays is the Thompson's
nephew. They have given him
their car which he drove back
home.
In the course of their visit
Mr. Coperon was down town
several times and went to the
Courthouse. He remarked sev
eral times how beautiful the
courthouse was, inside and out
and how friendly the people
were who worked at the court
house. He had the same praise
for the townspeople for their
friendliness. He liked all the
newly painted fronts, too.

Word was received last week
of the death of Christopher Bar
num, 2 year old son of Mr. and
Mrs. Max Barnum (Connie
Christopherson). The young
child passed away April 15, of
diabetes. Services were held
April 19 at Salem, with burial
in the Zion Memorial Park at
Canby. He is survived by his
parents, a sister, Kimberly;
grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Er
nest Christopherson of Donald,
formerly of lone; Mr. and Mrs.
LaRue Barnum of Worden, Wn.;
great grandparents, Mrs. Ada
Christopherson of Donald; Mrs.
Harriet Moses of St George, Wn.,
and Mrs. Ethel Jepson of Can
by. Unusual Refreshments
The Friendship Club of Cecil
met at the home of Mrs. Bill
McConnell on April 21. Every
one was commenting how good
the refreshments were, and the
hostess informed them they had
eaten pinto bean pie and sauer-i
kraut cake. The next meeting
will be a trip to Columbia Cen
ter in Pasco, Wn., for a shop
ping tour and a no-host dinner.
Mrs. Vida Heliker is a patient
in the Good Shepherd Hospital
in Hermiston.
Mrs. Henry Krebs entered the
Community Hospital in Pendle
ton on Tuesday for major sur
gery.
Train Trip
The first and second grade of
the lone school went on a field
trip April 26. They went to Hink
le where they took the train in
to Pendleton. After eating a
sack lunch in the park they
toured the East Oregonian
newspaper office and also the
Pendleton Post Office. They were
accompanied by Mrs. Robert
Rietmann and Mrs. Doug Du
buque.

and Christina spent the week
end in Portland.

Conservation Tour
The members of thee 5th
grades of lone and Heppner
spent Tuesday on a Conserva
tion Field Tour. They visited
many farms in the area and al
so stopped at the City Park in
lone to eat their lunch. Princi

ied the group from lone.

Salem visiting with Mr. and
Mrs. Elmo McMillan.

Auxiliary members met at the
Legion Hall and made 50 fav
ors for the State Auxiliary Con
