Early Adjournment, j Marks Board Meet (Continued rrom pace 1) ' regular board meeting on Nov. The cost of the present pump and pipe Installations at the Morrow County Fairgrounds has run about $59O0$GOO0. The school districts share was to be half the cost. The district has already advanced $2000 with a balance of approxlmtely $1000 to be paid. As the November board meeting was advanced a week, this will allow members of the board an opportunity to meet with the Fair Board at their regular meeting on Nov. 16 to learn specifically the school boards responsibility. The board approved the policy on free and reduced price lunch- Letters of explanation will be sent out to explain the pol icy with application forms. Fit Marshal's Visit Dr. Wolff and Irvln Rauch ac companied Supt. Ron Daniels on the tour of Heppner schools. Prime area was under the high school. This was referring to a storage area. This area Is to be sealed overhead or have access openings 20 sq. In. every 50 feet or sprinklers. Supt. Daniels said it appear ed the problems at the Elemen tary School can be resolved without too much expense. Much of the work can be done by the district employees prior to next year. A few sprinkler heads will be installed. The board approved the re quest of Stan Addison, Chemistry-Physics teacher at HHS to attend a Regional Science teach ers conference at Phoenix, Ariz., early in November. He asked to have Thursday and Friday off with no travel expense. Dr. Wolff suggested that If possi ble he report on the conference to the district science teachers. The meeting adjourned at 9:33 for an executive session, Craig Cutting in College Drama Opening production of the College Community Theatre's 'The Lion in Winter", will be presented in the Blue Mountain College theatre Nov. 12, 13, 14 and 20 and 21. A featured player is Craig Cutting, a freshman from Hepp ner. Craig has been chosen to play the part of Richard. Schag, Red Cross Field representative; Herb Ayers, dir ector of Community Service and Mrs. Homer J. Hartmann, vol unteer consultant for Disaster Services were In Hcppner Mon day. They work out of the In land Empire Division of the American Red Cross at Spokane. Their visit was a living ex ample of the new Red Cross pol icy of decentralization. The pur pose for the 19G8 decentraliza tion of the Red Cross was to have closer administrative head Jaycee Wives Slate Fall Activities The Jaycee Wives had their monthly meeting on Oct. 15 at which the future nlans for the Numerous activities are slated for this fall which the Jaycee Wives will sponsor or assist the Jaycees. Heading the list is the Jaycee Social which will be held Sat urday, Oct. 24 at 7:00 p.m. at the Legion Hall with the Leg- Heppner Extension Has Seafood Lunch Mrs. Vern Keithley reminded the Heppner Home Extension group last Monday that "Sea foods provide nutrients you need every day for i?ood health". During Ihe lesson the women learned that fresh fish is per ishable. It should never be oozy or smelly on your hands. As fishery products are among the more economical foods, they can be used to help balance your food budget. Do Not Overcook is the most important rule in preparing fish and shell fish. Cook only until the flesh flakes easily. Mrs. Ola Ruggles assist ed with the lesson. The next meeting will be Nov. 9 at the home of Mrs. Frank Connor. The lesson will be on "Leaders and Teachers Train ing". Members are to bring Christmas candy recipes and samples. The October meeting was held at Mrs. Ruggles' home. The prod ucts of the lesson were served at : the nbon luncheon. The menu included Northwest Clop pino over rice Crabburgers, Shrimp, and cabbage salad. HHS Honors Couples HeDDner High School announ ced that Boy and Girl of the Month of October under Friend liness were Steve Kemp and Pattv Lucianl. Ann Melland and Jackie All stott volunteered to serve coffee and cookies at the grade school for the "Meet Your Candidate" session held last Tuesday night, Oct. 20. The week of Nov. 4 through 11 will be the National Jaycee ECO week. Each chapter will be involved in an ecology project for the betterment of the com munity surroundings. Plans for the Heppner Jaycees' project will be discussed at the Jaycee meet mg. A project which might come under the heading of communi ty betterment was the window washing done at the bank by Joyce Hollomon, Linda Wonser, Dorthy Wilson and Jan Evans. The profits from this venture went to the Jaycee fund. Every year the Jaycees collect and repair old toys for disad vantaged children at Christmas time. Boxes will be distributed around town for anyone who wishes to donate old toys. A Christmas Bake Sale Is also tentatively scheduled for either the first or second week In De cember. The date will be def initly set at the next meeting, November 19. Pilot Rock Wins One Junior varsity football action for the current season came to a close for Heppner High School Monday evening dropping an 8 0 decision at Pilot Rock. The jay vees ended the season with a 3 2 record. The JV's played excellent de fense throughout three and one- half ouarters but finally sun mitted to a powerful single-wing attack to allow Pilot Kock a lone TD with four minutes left to play. Cited for outstanding defensive play were iea ceua my, Rick Drake, Bill Jepsen and Kirk Robinson. There will be a meeting of board mem bers, present and former mem bers, and others interested In any part of the Red Cross pro gram on Nov. 13 at 7:30 p.m. at the First National Bunk. Mr. Schag will attend the meeting. It was in 1963 that the Nat ional Board of Governors decid ed to decentralize. It was pro posed that approximately 90 divisions would be organized so that each community in the United States would have the opportunity to participate in Red Cross activities. On the west coast four divis ions have been formed. They are Cascade Division out of Port land, Inland Empire out of Spo kane, the Northwest Division out of Seattle and the Montana Division at Great Falls. Umatilla County and Morrow County have been placed In the Inland Empire Division alone with Central Washington and northern Idaho. Jim Morris of Employers In surance of Wausau of Portland was in Heppner Thursday on business. While he was here he spent the night with his brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Vern Nolan.
