Main Street was nothing but cmt and mud, with board side walks. There was three blacksmith shop on Main Street Brinnans, Aishbaugh and Scrivner. I think the Scrivner Shop and Livery was owned by a Mr. McRoberts when we arrrved in Heppner. I only remember two grocery Kiores, inompsons and Phelps. My uncle Chas Cox was in bus iness with Mr. Phelps for a while. Mr. Swartz had the meat mar ket The Heppner power plant was on the edge of the hill where I believe the Chevrolet garage was later. Each room had a big wood stove for the teacher to attend aLso. My mother started working all over town and as I wasn't i.n school I got to know a lot of people.
