Mr. and Mrs. Merle Hathaway, 6111 Kathy, Tom and Bob of Myrtle Point, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Harwood have returned home from t week's vacation to their sum mer home on the Siletz River on the coast. Mrs. Leo Root has returned home from a month's trip to California visiting relatives. She was accompanied by her brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Max Deweese of Grand view, Wash. They attended the Mefford family reunion July 17 at Citrus Heights where her bro ther-ln-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Al Macomber, live. There were 49 present. Mrs. Root also visited in Willows at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Pike, and at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Root at Paradi.se. She also visited Mrs. Ruinette Root there. While they were at Cit rus Heights Max Deweese suf fered a serious heart attack and has been in the hospital at Rose ville, Calif, since July 22. Leola Tannehill Passes Funeral services were held here Monday at the Boardman Community Church for Mrs Clyde Leola B.) Tannehill, 75, who died at her home in Port land July 30 of a heart attack R. A. Berger, The Dalles, con ducted the services. Mrs. Ronald Black and Mrs. LaVern Partlow sang "Near To The Heart of God" and "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" accompanied by Mrs. Everett Struckmeier. Pall bearers were Harold Baker, Bob Sicard, Ralph Skoubo, Bob Lilly, Gene Allen and Jim Miller. A former resident of Board - man for 28 years, Mrs. Tanne hill was born Oct. 31, 1894 in Iowa. She was married Jan. 16, 1915 and she and her husband went to California to live, then MAN OVERBOARD. Sam Everhart gives a reaching assist with to Boardman in 1935. Survivors include the widower at the home; three sons, Donald of Portland, Lyle of Eugene, Keith of La Grande; one sister, Mrs. Grace Cooley of Fresno, Lain.; and six grandchildren. Mrs. Tannehill was a mem ber of Greenfield Grange In Boardman, and during the time she lived here she was very ac tive In the grange, and in the Home Economics Club of the grange. Mrs. Roswold is Mrs. Allen's cousin. Lucy Thew of Cove was a re cent visitor at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Harper. Visitors last week at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Wlckland- er were Mrs. Wlcklander's moth er. Mrs. C. L. Saulre. and her brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Delmer Robertson, all of Orovllle, Calif.; and her bro ther and slster-ln law, Mr. and Mrs. Dclbert Blanchard of Seat tie. Mr. and Mrs. Dwlght Parker and Vince of Salem are visiting this week at the home of Mrs. Parker's mother, Mrs. Zoe Bill lngs. Deanna Sullivan of San Jose, Calif., will return to Salem with them after visiting her grandmother here. At Mrs. Marlows Mr. and Mrs. Danny Ransier and Denlse of Phoenix, Ariz., and their nephew, Buddy Ran sier of Lodl, Calif., visited one day last week at the home of Mr. Ransler's aunt, Mrs. Frank Marlow. Weekend visitors at Mrs. Marlow's were her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Darrell Marlow and Melinda of Salem, who were called to Pen dleton by the illness and death of Mrs. Marlow's father, Ted Slaughter of Ritter, who died at the Pendleton Community Hos pital. Mrs. Leo Potts had major sur gery at St. Anthony Hospital in Pendleton last Friday. Her dau ghter, Mrs. Howard Bundy of Richland, Wash., is here with her father while Mrs. Potts in the hospital. At Political Conventions Mr. and Mrs. Carl Marquardt and Ralph Crum attended the Reublican State Convention in Eugene last week. Mr. Crum in troduced an Agricultural plank for the state platform. Enrote home they stopped in Portland to see Penny and Billy June Marquardt. Democrat Mr. and Mrs. Harold Peck were in Bend last week for the State Democrat Convention. Mr. Peck said the convention feeling was enthusiasm for the Novem ber election. Democrats are en thusiastically working together to get people registered and out to vote. I nalhraith'c oar Pftftv urns nnahla New Favorite Food Show By BIRDINE TULLIS A highlight event for 4-H food club members has been added to county fair events for this year. Favorite Food Show will give foods club members a time to show the public their learn ines in equal prominence to style revue for clothing mem bers. The event will be open for public viewing at 7:30 Tues clay evening, Aug. 25. Each participant will have a capsule table setting, complete with centerpiece appropriate for meal at which they would serve their chosen favorite food. The contest will be judged prior to public showing, the 4-H member will be present at her exhibit to visit with viewers about 4-H projects and offer samples of her prepared favorite food. It is hoped the addition of Favorite Foods Show will stress the wide scope and learnings of 4-H foods members. Not only are they learning to prepare nu tritious well balanced, eye ap pealing meals, but also to be gracious hostesses! There is action at Fair every; night where 4-H is Involved. FOREST FIELD DAY FRIDAY The Blue Mountain Chapter of the Society of American Forest ers is sponsoring a forestry field day for members and invited guests. It will take place at Galloway Meadows, approxi mately five miles from Elgin. It will Include demonstrations of modern forest practices and use of aircraft in forestry.
