Riverside Elects Cheer Leaders By MART LEE HARLOW BOARDMAN Cheerleaders for Riverside High School elect lor juvriniuu iii.M ....- ed recently were Diane Black, Vivian Phillips, Kathy Ryan and Linda FredericKson. Students prnt "Muilcal Potpourri" A group of Riverside High School students, Grant Walter, Diane Black, Pam Kuhn, Donna Pummel, Tammy Snyder and Jonl Tiller, presented an enter taining hour of musical variety. "Potpourri", lust Thursday In the school auditorium. The show was planned and arranged by the students themselves, and itt was evident that they had put many hours of planning and practice into It. ...... The show was divided Into five parts, the first one being "Negro Spirituals", and Grant, Diane, Pam and Donna sang "When the Saints Go Marching In" and "I Can Tell The World". Diane sang a solo. "Jesus Walk ed This Lonesome Valley". All four then sang ''f" Soul" with Donna as soloist. The three girls sang "Motherless Child", and the four then sang "Old Time Religion." Tammy presented a bassoon solo, "Love Is Blue", accompa nied by Pam on the P"n- The second part was "Old es but Goodies" which started with Donna doing a song and dance, "Charleston", then Joined by Pam and Diane to "Be My Little Baby Bumble Bee." Grant then joined the girls with "Oh You Beautiful Doll." All four sang "Baby Face" and "Anything Goes " pam and Jimmie Stephens of Umatilla played a piano uui "The Scarlet cape. "he Scarlet Cape. AU four sang "Yesterday." Grant sang Mi chelle", and Donna sang Hey Jude." All four sang 'Can't Buy Me Love" and a medley, Come Together", Something", and "Because." They also sang "Give Peace A Chance." Jonl Tiller presented a piano solo, "A Time For Us, the theme from "Romeo and Juliet. The fifth and last part of the entertainment was the "Pop Scene." All four sang "Aquarius and "Up, Up and Away," and Donna and Pam sang "Scarbor ough Fair," accompanied by Jonl Tiller on the flute. Diane sang "IH Never Fall in Love Again. All four sang "Love Can Make You Happy" and "Happy Heart . Pam sang "The Look of Love. All four sang "Good Morning Starshine" and "Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head." The finale was all singing "This Is My Country", Joined in the singing by the audience. Joni Tiller was in charge or all musical accompaniment on tape. Pink and Blue Shower Mrs. Ralph Skoubo was host ess for a pink and blue shower at her home Monday night in honor of Mrs, Vic Marchek. Co hostesses were Mrs. Dan Dalto so, Mrs. Bob Byrd, Mrs. Dennis Surmon, Mrs. Ron Daniels and Mrs. Dick Skoubo. There were 28 present. Out of town guests were Helen Busch, Butte, Mont, and Mrs. Perry Pummel, Mrs. Mick Tolar and Pam Schmeder of Irrigon. Mrs. Bill Bates won the prize in a game, and Reta Phillips received the door prize. Mrs. Dick Skoubo assisted Mrs. Marchek in opening ner guis. It's A Girl , . . , Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Meinicke are the parents of a daughter, Caryn Louise, born May 25 at the Good Shepherd Hospital in Hermiston. The baby weighed 7 lb., 3 oz. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Merton Meinicke of Portland, and Mr. and Mrs. Rob ert Frank of Bellevue, Wash. Great-grandparents are George Herman and Christine Harvey of Portland. Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Mallery of Seattle, Wash, were recent ov ernight visitors at the home or Mrs. Mallery's mother, Mrs. Roy Ball and Mr. Ball. Rev. and Mrs. Roy Obermeier and Julie of Hansville. Wash., visited several days at the home of Rev. Obermeier's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Obermeier. James Barclay Awarded Degree A Heppner area student, James Patrick Barclay, was awarded a bachelors degree from the University of Portland at commencement ceremonies re cently in the Portland Civic Au ditorium, In Portland. Mr. Bar clay received his degree in Span ish from the College of Arts and sciences. The Rev. Paul E. Waldschmidt. C.S.C., University of Portland president, conferred the degrees on 367 students; six were awarded doctorates, 41 masters degrees, and 320, bachelors de grees. Four honorary degrees were also conferred. Daniel P. Moynihan, President Nixon's Urban Affairs Counsel lor, was commencement speak er. Baccalaureate speaker was Rev. Colman J. Barry, O.S.B., President, St. John's University, Collegeville, Minn. Honorary degrees were award ed to Astronaut, Colonel Edwin E.
