Off to Girls' State June 14-19 Gwen Drake and Valerie Boy cr of Heppner High School will attend Girls' State, the week long Government-In action pro gram sponsored by the Ameri can Legion Auxiliary on the Willamette Campus early In June. The girls are financed by the Heppner American Legion Auxiliary and the Soropttmists, Cwtn Drake Gwen will be ASB treasiuer next year. She is a member of QuiU and Scroll and works on the yearbook. She plays 1st clar met in the Concert Band. She Is also a member of Pep Club, uins' League and GAA. She Is active in the Methodist louth Fellowship, sings in the church choir and occasionally plays the organ for church. She likes being in 4-H and Is pres ident of the Hoof & Horn Club and Is a member of the Butter Creek Community 4-H Club. She plays the piano, paints a little bit, sews a little and cooks a little. Valeria Borer Valerie is editor of Hehlsch next year and president of Hon or Society. This year she has been president of Quill and Scroll and vice president of GAA, She plays the piano for fun and rides horseback lots. She is a butterfly collector and has col lected and mounted more than 75 butterflies from this area. Her father collected butterflies in Nebraska when he was a boy, She works with her dad around the airplane. Mostly she says, "I clean up the shop". She hopes to start learning to fly tnu summer. Kindergarten Picnic Planned The Heppner Kindergarten an nual picnic will be held Friday, at 11:00 a.m. on the Courthouse lawn. Heppner Civic League, kindergarten sponsors, will be in charge of the end of school pic nic. All present and prospective students and their families are invited. Everyone Is asked to bring a sack lunch. Kool-Aid and ice cream will be furnished. This year the kindergarten students will have a graduation program. Crrf-J,-. ; c C.',va Senior Tea As a favor for the 1970 annu al Senior tea given by the Sor optimists, the girls were given silver discs as charms for their bracelets. On one side were the words, "Class of 1970" and their class mottos on the other. Hepp. ner's motto Is "A Time for Us" and Ione's Forward Ever, Back ward Never Within ourselves Future Lies." All but seven of the 23 grad uating girls and their mothers attended the tea held at the home of Mrs. Wavel Wilkinson. Each girl was given a colored snapshot taken of her and her mother. The centerpiece of the tea ta ble was in shades of purple and white for the class colors. Ola Mae Groshens was at the coffee service and Mrs. Bill Johnson at the punch bowl. After church, two tea parties and a fire, we went for a late afternoon picnic up to the mountains. After we had eaten we fanned out into the woods. Breath takingly love ly. Moss covered stones, mount ain smells, yellow lamb s tongues, lavender bird bills and lady slippers and then two Mor- relles. Year or so ago Charlie decided he didn't like mush- l rooms. This is cood. now it leaves more for me. I finally had to take off my jacket. Tuck ed a sleeve in the pocket and I we filled up my sleeves. We found Morrelles, calf brains (my favorite) and turbans. Molly Becket Honored at For her outstanding contribu tion in the field of drama while In High School, Molly Becket was presented a dozen red roses by Dennis McKay at the annual Girls' League tea Monday. The presentation followed the one act play, "Wrong Number" In which Molly was the only one on stage. The suspense plot de veloped through telephone conversations. Mrs. Don Bennett, Girls State chairman for the American Leg- Ion Auxiliary talked briefly about the week-long government program sponsored by the Aux iliary in June on the Willam ette campus. Last year's dele gates Debby Warren and Sandy Matheny announced this year's delegates and pinned them with poppy corsages. 1970 delegates are Gwen Drake and Valerie Boyer. Financing the girls is a joint venture of the Auxiliary and the Soroptlmists. The background for the tea was a castle in Merrle Olde Eng land with stone walls hung with coat of arms, the decora tions for prom, "Welcome to Camelot". Jeannine Hunt, the outgoing Tea president, welcomed the guests. The little sisters were introduc ed. Mrs. Jane Rawlins, advisor, was presented with a frosted bud vase and Jeannine was present ed with a pink rosebud corsage. New officers Installed were: Darlene Warren, president; Jill Rugg, vice president; June Led better, secretary and Terrl Petty john, treasurer. Golden Agers to Meet The Golden Age Club will meet June 2 for a 7 p.m. pot luck supper at the All Saints' Episcopal Parish House. This will be the last meeting until October. Crib blankets were made for the nursery of the Pioneer Mem orlal Hospital by the Six Stitch ers 4-H club members when they met May 18, at the home of the leader, Mrs. L. A. McCabe. Garden Club Tonight Heppner Garden Club will meet tonight, Thursday, at the home of Dr. and Mrs. Wolff in Heppner. The meeting date has been changed to allow more time for the iris to be In bloom.
