Tax Base Meetings Scheduled Next Week Three public meeting! on the proponed Morrow County School DIstrH Tax Base have been planned for next week. The first will be at the Hepp ner Elementary multipurpose room at 8:00 p.m. on Monday, May 11. 1970. The second will be at the A. C. Houghton Elementary at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 12, 1970. The third will be In connec tion with the lone PTA meeting scheduled for the lone School Cafeteria at 8:00 p.m. on Thurs day, May 14. 1970. The purpose of the meetings will be to explain the tax base proposal, Its effect on the dis trict and to answer any ques tions that the district patrons might have. Lab Teaching A group of Oregon College of Education students are partici pating In a week-long labora tory teaching assignment In the Salem area May 4-8. The laboratory experience will Involve full day visits to Salem area elementary schools; partic ipating is Bornlece Matthews, lone. Heppneritcs Receive 50-year Honors Two members of Heppner Lodge No. 69 AF & AM, were presented with the su year goiu emblem awarded by the Oregon HranH Lndne of Masons at the district meeting in Arlington April 17. The recipients were John Wightman of Heppner, and former Heppner resident William Instone, now of Wilsonville, who, until about 20 years ago, lived on the ranch now owned by Bill Weatherford. Nine members of Heppner Lodge were present, including th. omhlom winners. They were Don Gilliam, Howard Bryant, Harold Becket, Earle Gilliam, Claude Graham, Marion Hayden and Cecil Rill. Mrs. Hope Temple, participated In the Foreign Language Field Day which Is sponsored annually by Eastern Oregon College at La Grande. Four languages, Spanish, French, Latin, and German, were featured this year with In dividual prizes being accompa nied by a plaaue for the chool. Registration, April 22, was followed by a film strip entitled "Why Study Foreign Languag es?" A tour of the EOC library preceded a general assembly ex plaining test procedures.
