49 Eventful Years Reviewed at Reunion With Class Advisor A great deal of reminiscing was the order of the day on Sunday. September 6, when several members of the Heppner High Class of 1920 gathered in Portland for a reunion. The occasion also was in hon or of a favorite class advisor, during the years 1917-12)19, Mrs. Martha (Struck) Brunqubst, and in celebration of her 81st birth day. She now makes her home in Parkdale and continues to be a very active citizen and influ ence in the community. Following a dinner at Ire land's Restaurant in Portland, the group traveled to the home of one of the class members, Mrs. Alma (Devin) Cousten. Many recollections were made of the "good ol' days" for the class of 15 graduates, and each was brought up-to-date on their life's history during the past 49 years. Members of the reunion class who attended were Mrs. Cyrene (Lieuallen) Miller and Mrs. Odile (Groshens) Luper, both of Portland: Mrs. Neva (Chldsey) McCord of Baker, Mrs. Eva (Whlttington) Steele of St. Hel ens, Mrs. Etta (Devin) ParKer of Heppner, Mrs. Erda (Frad) Pieper of Lexington, Mrs. Ruth (Huddleston) Fletcher of Ukiah Herb Hynd of Cecil, Mrs. Alma (Devin) Clousten or Portland, and their advisor, Mrs. Erun quist of Parkdale. Others present were Harvey Miller, Mrs. Beth Hynd, Carol Hynd. R. A. (Bob) Fletcher. John Clousten, and Mrs. Elea nor (Bronquist) Dallas of Beaverton .1 Club Projects Occupy September Meeting The lone Garden Club held its September 10 meeting at the home of Mrs. Annette Klinger in Lexington. Sixteen members answered roll call with a history of a flower they had chosen for their years' theme. Mrs. John Eubanks, Mrs. Ho mer Hughes and Miss Emma Pe terson were guests. Members discussed their Gar den Club Casserole Cook Book which will be offered for sale in the near future. These reel pes are submitted and tested by Garden Club members. Club members also planned their 20th anniversary flower show which will be held at the lone Cafetorium on Sunday, September 21, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. Special exhibits will be on disDlav of dahlias bv Bill Raw lins and mums by Mrs. Harold Huber. Community citizens are invit ed to enter along with junior exhibitors which will include en tries 12 years and younger. Members will accept entries on Saturday evening between the hours 7:00-9:00 p.m. and Sunday, 8:00-10:30 a.m. The cafetorium will be closed dur ing judging hours of 11:00-2:00. Exhibitors rules and regula tions may be had by calling any of the Garden Club members or Mrs. Fredrick Martin. The flower show will be the next regular meeting for the club. i. Cozad of i Huntington Beach, Calif. MIm Luciani. a 10fi8 crrnriiintn of Heppner High school, will be a sophomore ai uregon Slate University this fall, where she majors in secretarial science. She was this year's queen of the Morrow County Fair and Rodeo. At OSU she is affiliated with sirrmn Kanna sororitv. Hir fiance, a 1966 erariuata nf Sunset High scnool in Portland, Is preparing to graduate from Oregon State University next spring with a degree in mathe matics. He is a member of Acacia fraternity. Attending were Mrs. Velva Bechdolt of Heppner, president of the Iota chapter, and Mrs. Edna Skold of Milton-Freewa-ter, first vice-president. First fall meeting of the chapter wlll.be Saturday, Sept ember 20. at the Vert club room in Pendleton. Two new mem bers will be initiated in formal ceremonies, Mrs. Jane Rawlins of Heppner, and Mrs. Alyce Zerba of Mllton-Freewater. Des-j sert will be served at 7:00 p.m.,; followed by the meeting and( formal initiation. ' Teachers Welcomed At lone PTA Meeting The lone PTA held its first meeting of the school year on Thursday, September 11, in con Junction with their Teachers Welcome Tea. Harold Beggs Introduced the teachers and extended the wel come. Darrel James presented the Town and Country Gentlemen who entertained the audience with several selections. Mrs. James Pettyjohn, PTA chairman, Mrs. Don Peterson, vice-chaliiiian, and Mrs. Ernest Christopherson served the cof fee, tea and cake at the tea table. During the regular PTA meet ing Chairman Lola Ann Petty john announced various com mittee chairmen for the ensu ing year. Completed committees will be announced at a later date. Lindstrom, so cial committees; Mrs. Henry Krebs, legislature; and Mrs. Norman Nelson, publicity. rmr WFFTNI GAZETTE-TIMES Thura September 18, 19G9 3 Art Course Scheduled By BMCC Extension To Begin Sept. 25 Evening division of blue Mountain Community college will offer a painting class to adults of the Heppner-Ione ar eas starting Thursday, Septem ber 25. Dr. Margaret McDevitt will in struct the course. Classes will be held in the Lexington school. An afternoon and an evening session of the classes will be held if 20 students are enroll ed. The afternoon session would be held from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., and the evening session from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m. Fee for the course is $12.50. Bee nners who plan to take the class may obtain a list of needed supplies bv phoning Mrs. Paul Brown, 676-5389. BMCC offered the first art classes in the area in 1964, and has sponsored seven art classes since that time. An outgrowm of the Instruction has been a number of artists of the month showings in Heppner and Pen dleton, and two successful art shows. Dr. McDevitt, well known art Instructor at the college, has worked In art education at Ore- eon State University and for the Salem Public School systems. f MRS. DARREL L. EACRET (Maria C Hughes) New Bride Honored At Shower Party Mrs. Tom White (formerly Teresa Tucker) was honored guest at a bridal shower on Tuesday, September 9, at the Masonic Hall in lone. Tanya Tucker, sister of Mrs. White, and a former classmate, Charlene Hamlett, assisted Ter esa with her many lovely gifts. Mrs. Archie Padberg or Hepp ner, paternal grandmotner or Mrs. White, served the coffee and her maternal grandmother, Mrs. Cleo Drake, served tea from lovely table complimented with a variagated floral arrange-ment. Mrs. Eldon Tucker served the cake which was decorated in yellow, white and green and flanked with green tapers-. Several graduation classmates assisted about the room, includ ing Teresa Stefani, Bonnie Morgan, Jodie Snow, Bonnie Kay Akers. and Charity Beggs. Hughes and Darrel L. Jacret, both of Portland, was solemnized at Kern Park Christian Church in Portland on Saturday, Septem ber 13. The bride is the daughter of Mrs. Charles (Lola) Pritchett and the late Marvin Hughes, and granddaughter of the late Grace Hughes and Ada Cannon, all former Heppner residents. Par ents of the groom are Mr. and Mrs. Marion Eachret of Portland. The marriage ceremony was performed at 7:30 p.m. by the Kev. Kenneth Johnston. Her elbow length veil was held by a floral headpiece. She carried a nose gay bouquet of pink and white roses with trailing pink stream ers. . . Maid of honor was Mrs. Barb ara Tindall, and bridesmaids were Miss Judith Potzien. Miss Linda ixigerton, and Mrs. Bettv Bishop. The attendants wore empire-styled gowns of cherry pinK, and carried nosegay bou ques of carnations in shades of pink. Joe Bowers served as ring bearer and Teresa O'Connor as flower girl. Charles Starr attended as best man. Ushers were Kirby Eacret, Kooert Lade and Robert Herzog. The couple greeted their guests at a wedding reception in the fellowship rooms. The bride attended Jefferson High school and Portland State University, and is employed at the American Savings and Loan. The groom was a graduate ol Scappoose Union High school. has attended Portland Commun ity College and Portland State, and has been a student em ployee of Fred Meyer in Port land.
