Granges Get 'Boost' For Fall Meetings At Sunday Program Willows Grange Booster pro gram was held at the lone hall Sunday, September 7, beginning with a ham and turkey dinner at 1:00 p.m. Following the dinner, prepar ed by the Committee on Wom en's Affairs, a program was pre sented to over 100 distinguished and honored guests and mem bers of Willows Grange, Green field Grange of Boardman, Lex ington, and Rhea Creek Grang es. Distinguished guests Ineluded Mr. and Mrs. Allen P. Wheeler, Master of the Oregon State Grange. He also holds the chap lain station of the National Grange. Wheeler sang for the audi ence two selections, "Cats Whiskers' and "No Man Is An Island," accompanied by Dar rell James on the piano. During the program Master Wheeler spoke to the members on various subjects pertaining to the functions of the Oregon State Grange. He also told the group that Eastern Oregon Grangers must strive for better representation of votes In our State Legislature. Other selections In the pro gram included a number by the local singing group 'Town and Country" men, which Includes Lindsay Kincaid, Larry Rlet mann, Don Bristow, Fred Mar tin, Mike Matthews, Jerry Mar tin and Dennis McKay. Wheel er also sang selections with the croup, accompanied by James. Linda Morgan of Condon ac companied on the guitar by her father Clayton, sang two selec tons, "He's Got the Whole World in His Hands" and "Selections from the Sound of Music". Hubert Wilson of Heppncr sang "How Great Thou Art," re quested Dy Mrs. Art Dalzell, and accompanied on the accordian by Mrs. Wilson. She accompanied him on the piano whle he sang "My Happness." Special tributes were given the state leader at a meetinff wnicn loiiowed a 6:00 p.m. pot luck dinner. Cindy Harsin. worthy advisor. and other officers of Ruth As sembly presided over the open ing and closing ceremonies, and over the balloting for new of ficers. Girls of the Condon as sembly were in chage of Intro duction of distinguished guests. Several members were also present from lone Assembly No. 89. Among the distinguished vis itors was Mrs. Florence Van Gaascheck, grand deputy, of Ar lington; also, worthy advisors and mother advisors of the other district assemblies. Special introductions were given past grand officers, in cluding Sara Miller, past grand representative to Louisiana and past grand choir member; Bon nie Kae Akers, past grand con fidontial observer; Teresa Stef ani, past grand representative to Texas. Also, Susan Melby, present grand representative to New Hampshire, and Charlene Hamlett, present grand represen tative to Wisconsin, were ac corded honors. The chosen theme of Grand Worthy Advisor Kathy, "Walk With Hope", was carried out in a special addendum by members of Ruth Assembly. Her chosen colors of green and gold, and her chosen flower, the sunflow er, were used in special decor ations about the hall and in the reception room. Ruth Assembly nonored her witn a special gilt, Kefreshments were served in the dining room following the meeting. The Condon Assembly will be host to a reception honoring their grand worthy advisor on Sunday afternoon, September 21, with neighborng assemblies in vited to attend. MISS NONDA CLARK Nonda Clark Reveals Wedding Engagemen Mr. and Mrs. Barton Clark are announcing the engagement of their daughter, Nonda Leona, to Hal Sunday, son of Mr. and Mrs Darwin Sunday, of San Jose Calif. Both young people ate stu dents at Linfield College in Mc Mmnville. Their engagement was an nounced at a candle passing ceremony at Nondas sorority Sigma Kappa Phi, on September 3. Her fiances fraternity. Delta Psi Delta, joined the sorority in honoring them with a double serenade. Miss Clark graduated from Their wedding December 28. is planned for Mrs. Jennifer Spray was a La bor Day week-end visitor to Heppner. She stayed at the home of her mother, Mrs. Pat Brindle. Mrs. Spray is teaching at Pilot Rock while her husband is in Vietnam. Methvin Transferred; Farewell Dinner Held Forest service employees held a no-host dinner in honor of Ken Methvin, Friday, August 29. Methvin and his family have beeen transferred to Sweet Home where he will be district en gineer. Twenty-six fellow employees and their wives and husbands attended the dinner held at the Wagon Wheel banquet room. Methvin has been stationed here for four years. A teflon electric grill was giv en the couple as a farewell ges ture. The family moved Sunday, August 31, and Methvin s duties started Monday, September 8 Mr. and Mrs. Methvin have two children, Chucky and Ter esa. Miss Teresa Wright will be Installed new worthy advisor of Ruth Assembly No. 50, Order of Rainbow for Girls, at formal ceremonies Sunday afternoon, septemner i, at z:uu p.m., In the Heppner Masonc hall. Miss Wright, daughter of Mrs. Adelle LaTrace, and senior at Heppner High school, will suc ceed Cindy Harsin as worthy ad visor for the iaii term. Other elected and appointed officers will also assume their duties at the installation. Grandson Married In Seattle Ceremony Announcement has been re ceived by Mrs. Mary Johnston of Heppner or the marriage of her grandson, Edward Patrick Mc Daid and Janet Jean Lilwina wlch, on August 28 at the Cath olic church in Seattle, Wn. They will live in Seattle where the groom is working for the Boe ing company and the bride is teaching school. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ted McDaid of Tigard. Terry Peck. Larry Pettvlohn and John Rawlins left Tuesday, September 9, for the Malheur Bird Refuge. They planned to camp out, watch birds and take pictures, returning Friday, Sept ember 12. Grand Lodge Officers Coming on Goodwill Eastern Oregon Tour Willow Odd Fellow Lodge No, 66 and Sans Souci Rebekah Lodge No. 33 will be host to about 40 visiting Grand Lodge and Grand Assembly officers on Monday, September 15. The group of distinguished guests will spend the first day of their week-long Goodwill Eastern Oregon Tour In Hepp ner. Joining the Heppner lodges will be representatives from Gilliam and Wheeler counties, as well as lone and Lexington. Following an afternoon of vis itation, guests will be entertain ed at a 6:30 p.m. dinner at the Heppner IOOF hall. Highlight of the program following the din ncr will be the presentation of veteran jewels by the Grand Master of Oregon to several lo cal long-time members. Dancing to live music will follow the open meeting. The Eastern Oregon Tour will continue its visitations in Pen dleton on September 16, then continue to Canyon City, Burns, Ontario, Enterprise, and return to Portland on September 21. Directing the activities here will be Jack Sumner, noble grand of Willow lodge, and Mrs. Larry Cook, noble grand of Sans Souci lodge. Boardman Girl Fills Leading Role in Opera Miss Pamela Kuhn, daughter or Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Kuhn of Boardman, was featured in a leading role In the opera. 'The Elixir of Love" by Donizetti, ut the Sun Valley opera house this summer. She sanjj the role of "Adina", with her voice teacher P. Teter Saoco, filling the male lead or "Nemorlno" in the opera, Pamela attended the Sun Val ley Music camp on a seven-week scholarship, with a double ma jor in voice and piano. Director of the camp, Jacques Brourmaii, and the piano Instructor, George Stegner, were from Queens, Col lege, Charlotte, N. C. Sacco, the voice instructor, was from San Francisco State College. Names of those who had been ill in recent weeks were reported, marking up a Jtrilguiy 115,1. OCV- j eral members reported visiting patients and nursing home resi dents in the local hospital. Mrs. Ada Eskelson of Holly Lodge No. 139 was a guest of the evening, and others welcom ed were Mrs. Lena Kelly, Mrs. Alice Luttrell and Mrs. Mattie Green. An accumulation of business and correspondence during the past two months was brought to the attention of members, un der the direction of Mrs. Opal Cook, noble grand. Of immediate importance were plans connected wth the com ing Friendship Tour to be made by Grand Lodge officers and Re bekah Assembly personnel of Oregon when they arrive in Hep pner by special bus Monday, September 15. Willows Odd Fel lows lodge will serve as hosts furnishing 4-H beef which they purchased at the Morrow county fair as the main course for the evening dinner. An open meet ing will follow the banquet, which all may enjoy. - A staff of Rebekah members draped the lodge charter in memory of Mrs. May Gilliam who at the time of her death was a 60-year veteran member of Sans Souci lodge. Nominations to fill the station of vice-grand, left vacant when Mrs. Retha Adkins moved from Heppner, were opened. Alta Stevens, a past noble grand, will serve in this office, until a mem ber, who is available to contin ue through the chairs of the de gree, is available. During the social hour, re freshments were served by Mrs. Velva Bechdolt and Mrs. Kelly, assisted by Mrs. Jo Huston.
