Mrs. Omar Rletmann is at home now following an extend ed period In the HermLston hos pital for treatment of her back. Mrs. Vera Rletmann and Mrs. Ruby Roberts spent Thursday throuRh Saturday In Portland for medical care. The Loo Crabtrees received word that their son, Ron, of Ta coma, Wn has undergone an other surgery. Last Wednesday he underwent surgery for a granular tumor removal on his throat. The tumor was closing the opening to his lung, impair ing his breathing. Crabtree is at home again at this writing, al though his voice is somewhat affected as yet, and the doctors believe it will gradually become normal. Earl Morgan was a patient in 'he Hermiston hospital for a few days this past week while un dergoing tests. Mrs. Markham Baker of Her miston was an overnight guest it the home of Mr. and Mrs. Leo Crabtree this past week. Jim Mason of Modesto, Calif., visited with the Fred Martin family while on leave from the USAF stationed in England. Ralph Martin of Oregon City came to lone with Mason. Mrs. BUI Baker is now at home following her confinement in the Pendleton hospital. Staying with Mrs. Baker are Linda De vine of The Dalles and Sandy Grocher also of The Dalles. Mrs. Al Brazell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Martin, stay ed with her folks to drive truck during harvest. She has returned to her home in Othello. A coffee hour was held on Fri day at the home of Mrs. Ken neth Smouse in honor of Mrs. Henry Smouse of Portland who is visiting with her son and family. On Sunday Mr. and Mrs. Orlow Martin of Moro were at the Smouse home to visit her mother and brother and family. Mrs. Clell Rea and granddau ghters, Darcy and Donna, motor ed to Portland on Sunday to at tend the Morrow county Picnic. Also among those attending from here were Mr. and Mrs. Ed mond Bristow, Carl Troedson and Earl Morgan. Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Halvorsen visited in La Grande on Sunday at the home of their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Mark Halvorsen. Guests recently at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Martin were Dr. and Mrs. A. J. Buttry of Portland. Mrs. Elby Akers and uanny were in Portland last week for Danny's checkup. Mrs. Akers took her granddaughter, Kim, who had been visiting with her grandparents, to her home in Portland. Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Crawford and family of Albany are visit ing at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Art Dalzell. Rainbow Girls ot the lone As sembly held a barbecue and slumber party last Thursday night at the home of their Moth er Advisor Mrs. Lewis Halvor senl There were 13 girls present to enjoy the festivities and work on their scrapbook. The girls also made plans for their an nual summer outing which will be on August 11-1213 at Hat Rock. Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Matth ews visited in Monmouth ovej the week-end with their daugh ters Berniece and Deniece. Mrs. Elby Akers was in Port land last week to attend the World Evangelistic meetings held there. Bill Zinter had the misfortune of breaking his hip and ankle in an accident last Wednesday involving a wheat truck. With the assistance of a young help er, Bill was attempting to fix the emergency brake on the truck. While working under the truck, the brakes gave away, rolling the truck down a slight incline. Zinter is in the Walla Walla General hospital, room 212. However it is hoped that the doctors will give nis iamuy permission to move him closer to home in the near future. Mr. and Mrs. Don McEUigott and family visited on Sunday in Madras with Mr. and Mrs. Don Hatfield, Lexington was In business in Lexington and his wife was a nurse at Pioneer Memorial hospital several years ago. A reminder to all Grange members, the annual Willows Grange picnic will be held on August 17 at the lone City Park at 5.00 p.m. A potluck dinner will be held at this time, with silverware, dishes, punch and coffee furnished. All county grange members and their guests are invited to attend. Karen Loy, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Steve Loy of Beaver ton, is visiting this week In lone with her uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Don Ball, and with her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Ball, Heppner. Cathy Kincaid, daughter of Mr. arid Mrs. Ralph Kincaid, is visiting in Hermiston this week at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Dean Swanson. Amanda Warfield visited at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Carlson recently. She enjoyed being on the ranch during har vest and hadn't been back for a visit for some time. Among the young church group attending Camp Adams this week are Greg Wilson, Mark, John and Joe Rietmann and Freddie Sherman. Mr. and Mrs. Rietmann and Mr. and Mrs. Wilson took the boys over by car, leaving on Sunday for their week of studies and out door activities. Norene's Father Dies in Portland The office of Dr. James Nor or,a Wal veterinarian, will be closed for a week or more, whiie the Norenes are m roruana. mis. Clyde Nutting will be available to' give information left by Dr. Norene regarding horse vaccin ations already done once, and in five other information nec- accarv at this time. i Dr." Norene was called to Port land Friday afternoon, August 1, by the sudden death of his fath er, Roy J. Norene, age 76, who had been in ill health for some time. Funeral arrangements were planned for Wednesday at Rose City Presbyterian church in Portland. Mrs. Norene and their daughter, Tracy, also made the trip. For 37 years Mr. Norene serv ed as chief of the U. S. immigra tion and naturalization office in Portland, and during this time pained considerable notoriety. He retired in December of 1953. During his term of office he considers the high spot of his career the "cleaning up of the Communist situation in 1930 and 1931," and a great number of Communist aliens were deport ed from Portland. Norene was subjected to many bitter attacks because of this over the years. Among notable deportation char ges were those connected with the Harry Bridges Case. His wife preceded him in death. Besides the son, James, he is survived by a sister, Mrs. Jane Munson of Vancouver, Wn., and one granddaughter, Tracy. Mr. and Mrs. Harlan McCurdy, Sr. were in Heppner last week end for the wedding of their granddaughter, Karen McCurdy.
