'?' j-.-' Pettyjohn-Keenan United in Marriage Bt LORRAINE BALL (Held over from last week) IONE Paul Pettyjohn, Jr., and Durinka Keenan were united in marriage on July 2 at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Hill, of Heppner. Wayne Hams was best man for his brother-in-law and Jari Lee was maid of honor for her sis ter. The couple is at home in lone, after spending: a brief hon eymoon on the coast Among those attending the services from here were Mr. and Mrs. Paul Pettylohn, Sr., Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Hams, and Ernest Lun dell. Joy Beggs recently returned from La Grande, where she at tended YCOT, which is a youth conference on teachers. She ac companied Mollie Beckett of Heppner. Week-end house guests of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Byrne were his step-daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. William Edwards of Milwaukie. The children remain ed for a longer visit. Mrs. Pete Cannon, accompan ied by Mr. and Mrs. Edmond Bristow motored to La Grande to take Cathy Cannon to meet Carol Hausler of Joseph. Cathy will be a guest of the Hauslers for a week. Mr. and Mrs. Louis Carlson and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Baker were Pendleton visitors on Sat urday. They visited with Mrs. Amanda Warfield at the Hier sche's Nursing Home where Mrs. Warfield is makng her home. Mrs. Roy Thomas, sister of Mrs. Blaine Chapel, was a vis itor at the Chapel home. Mrs. Delsie Mae Wilbur, niece of Mrs. Chapel, and children visited with them on Monday. Mrs. Thomas was to accompany her home. Mr. and Mrs. Cleo Childers motored to Mabton, Wash., on Sunday, bringing back their son, Harvey, who had been vis iting his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J. G. Childers, for the j-pastf month. ' ' .' Recent guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Carlson were Mr. and Mrs. Perl Bye of Silverton. Mrs. Carlson and Mrs. Bye are sisters. Vicky Ekstrom, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dick Ekstrom, is spending the summer with her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Herb Ekstrom, Sr., and Mrs. Ida Cole man. The Dick Ekstroms moved this past week to San Francis co, Calif., where Ekstrom has been transferred. Joe Mason of Prineville is a house guest at the home of his sister, Mrs. Mable Cotter. Mr. and Mrs. Herb Ekstrom, Jr., and family motored to Los Angeles last week to bring home a travel trailer. On Friday they were guests of his brother and family, Mr. and Mrs. Dick Eks trom, who were in the process of settling in their new home. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Heimbigner were in Portland for the wed ding of their daughter, Linda. They held a rehearsal dinner party at the Rheinlander Ger man Restaurant for the Heimbigner-Vincent wedding party. Among those from lone attend ing the services included Mr. and Mrs. Edmond Bristow, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Morgan, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Halvorsen, Frank Halvorsen and Donna and Darcy Beecher Emert of Seymour, Tenn., is visiting with his bro ther, Delbert Emert, and his sis ter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Pettyjohn. He will also vis it with another brother, Phil Emert, of Echo. Marianne Pettyjohn competed in the barrel race at The Dalles on Saturday. July 19. She was among 38 contestants. Marianne tied for 1st, 2nd and 3rd plac es. Patty McCoin received 4th place. Both girls are daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Lee Pettyjohn. Bill McCoin won the saddle bronc riding. Contestants were riding at the NRA shows at the Fort Dalles Days. Mrs. Roy W. Lindstrom motor ed to La Grande with their son, Steve, on Monday. Steve was re turning to summer school. David Weaver of Salem and Mrs. Patricia Ferguson of Silver ton, son and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Grover Weaver, sur prised their parents when they flew Into Lexington by private plane last week to spend the day with their parents. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Kincald and family accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Larry Prock and family to Ritter over the weekend where they enloyed a few days outing. Returning to their home in Redmond, after a week-end at the coast, were Mr. and Mrs. Chuck Barnhart, who came via lone to take their daughters Robin and Judith home, after a week's visit with their grand parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Sherer. ' Mr. and Mrs. Robert Cason and daughters, Mary Jo and Sandy, of Portland visited over the week-end at the home of his uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Darrel Padberg. Also com ing for the week-end were Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Rea and fam ily of Condon. Mrs. Bill Baker, whose hus band Is employed at the Har vey Smith ranch, was rushed to Pendleton on Saturday after suffering a slight stroke. Mrs. Baker became ill while picking fruit and was taken to Condon for medical care. Her condition was such that she was taken to Accident Claims Irrigon Woman By FRANCES ROSE WILSON IRRIGON The community was shocked by the tragic death of Mrs. Elmer (Harriet) Zehner, on Saturday, July 19. She was killed in a collision as she at tempted to turn into her drive way, as she came from Uma tilla. The Zehner home is locat ed near the Umatilla-Morrow county line. Mrs. Zehner was an active worker with Camp Fire Girls and was a 4-H leader. One of her favorite hobbies was arch ery. Mrs. Zehner lived in ths area for many years and will be deep ly missed by many friends and acquaintances, as well, as her family. She leaves two children, David and Melodie, who are in grade school, as well as sev eral children who are grown and away from home. Rev. John Kenney, pastor of the Assembly of God church, performed three wedding cere monies the past week. Rev. Ken ney has been a minister and missionary for over 30 years and he said this is a record, for any one week, i Those who were married were Robert Leslie Humphreys, Uma tilla, and Robin Lynn Mans field, Umatilla, on Wednesday, July 16 at 9 p.m. There was a formal wedding ceremony for Lyle Paul Hovinghoff, Irrigon and Karen Susan Irwin, of Uma tilla at 2 p.m. July 19. Clayton Russel Irwin of Hermiston and Bonnie Lynn Eppenbaugh, re cently of Irrigon, were married Saturday, July 19 at 7 p.m. Cheerleaders from Riverside high attended a Cheerleaders Clinic at Lewis and Clark Col lege, Portland, July 14-17. Those attending were Donna Kay Pummel, Irrigon, Judy Hinton and Vivian Phillips, Boardman. The Riverside cheerleading team received outstanding and excel lent ribbons in competition with 14 groups. They also received the "spirit stick" on the second evening, an award for having the most spirit and enthusiasm. The Chester Wilson family gathered at Irrigon for a reunion the week-end of July 19. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Bartlett, Steve and Cindy of Lynnwood, Wash., their daughter and son-in-law, came on Friday, while Carmine Wil son of Santa Cruz, Calif., arrived Sunday evening. Jim Wilson of Hermiston joined the family on Sunday. Mrs. Anne Weatherford of Pendleton, who is Charles Bartlett's mother spent Saturday and Sunday with the family. The John Wilson family of Boise, Idaho spent the Fourth of July in Irrigon, but were un able to them at ths time. Pendleton to their family phys loian. Gaylord Salter and children of Athena are visiting wun nis par ents. Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Salter, for a few days. Tanya Tucker returned home on Saturday alter being a camp er at Camp Meadowood. She will return to the camp on July 27, where she will be a coun selor for three weeks. Richard Rea of Portland visit ed with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clell Rea. over the' week end. His daughters, Donna and Darcy, who have been visiting with their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Halvorsen, returned home with him on Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Martin and family of Pasco were visitors at the home of her parents, Mr. ana Mrs. Clell Rea, on Saturday. Mrs. Vic Rietmann and Mrs. Walt Roberts returned to lone on Saturday after a few days spent in Portland for medical care. Of interest to our readers is the announcement that the An nual Morrow County Picnic will be held at the Laurelhurst Park in Portland on August 3. Every one is invited to attend and bring guests. Lunch will be served at noon with coffee and ice cream furnished. Mr. and Mrs. Elby Akers, Danny and Kimmy, attended the Atomic Cup races on Sat urday at Pasco, Wash. Mrs. Keith Peck and children of Portland arrived July 21 at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Milton Morgan. She will remain to help her mother with harvest cooking. Mrs. Mor gan still has a cast on her foot from a recent break she suffer ed while on an outing at the river. Spec. 4 Gary Morgan recently wrote his parents that he was among the crew who flew a mission from Mam Ranh Bay, Vietnam, where he is stationed to the Philippine Islands. He was much impressed with the islands and expects to be sent there again in September on a similar mission. Rev. Mike Luedde returned the past week-end to his home in lone. Rev. Luedde was the director of the Freshman Camp at Camp Adams last week. Cre ative Expression was subject of study. Rev. and Mrs. Luedde and family were to leave July 28 for a month's vacation. Rev. Lued de announces that Bill Fletch ner will fill the pulpit the first Sunday of August during his absence. Announcements will appear later for the following services in August. Among the parents attending the Little League All-Star games in The Dalles Thursday through Saturday were: the Ernest Chris tophersons, the Don Petersons, Mrs. Bob Rietmann, Mrs. Bill Rietmann and Mr. and Mrs. Lindsay Kincaid. The boys from the local team chosen to play were Greg Christopherson, Aar on Klinger, Charles McElligott, Mark Rietmann, Joe Rietmann, Joel Peterson, and Tom Hamlett was chosen as alternate. The players, coaches and parents were invited to attend a picnic at the Harvey Aluminum Park on Saturday sponsored by The Dalles Little League Tourna ment directors. Attending the picnic were Mr. and Mrs. Kin caid and Greg Christopherson. They had returned on Saturday after fishing on the Deschutes on Friday, having a bye game on that day. Miss Kathy and Judy Vito of Clarence Center, N. Y., arrived July 14 by plane to spend some time visiting with relatives here and In Fossil. They were met In Portland at the airport by their grandmother, Mrs. Winifred Hy att of Fossil. Mrs. C. E. Hastings has re turned home from the Heppner hospital where she had been re ceiving treatment for several days. Miss Sharyl Mabe, who Is at tending business college in Port land, spent the week-end at home with her mother, Mrs. Wilma Mabe. Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Barzee visited in Bend during the week end with Mr. and Mrs. Paul Oy ler and son Don. Archid . Cox was a business visitor in Heppner on July 18. Mr. " and Mrs. Robert Kelso went to Portland July 19 to take their granddaughter, Jeannette Bell, back to her home. As usual, the day was enjoyed ft all participants as it lwayf is when these two clubs clash. Mr. and Mrs. Carsten Brand- hagen have returned to Hepnner after a trip to Minnesota. They visited Brandhagen's mother, 91, of Fergus Falls. While in Min nesota the Brandhagen's saw Agnes Brandhagen, Mrs. Othelia Redmans and Ingvar Brandhag en, sisters and brother of Brand hagen, in Rothsey. On the trip to and from the East, they vis ited Mrs. Isabel Reed of Spokane, formerly of Heppner. Mrs. Rt?ed is a sister of Mrs. Brandhagen. Their last trip East was made in 1962.
