JuIt 3. 19C9 KAY DAGGETT Kay Daggett to Wed Steven Hunkapillar Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Daggett of HeDDner announce the engage ment of their daughter, Kay, to Steven Hunkapillar, son of Mr. and Mrs. Chester T. Hunkapillar ot Athena. Miss Daggett Is a 1967 grad uate of Heppner High, school and a secretarial graduate of Blue Mountain Community col lege. Hunkapillar, a graduate of Athena High school, also attend ed Blue Mountain college. Both are now employed In Pendleton. , A late September wedding Is planned. Jaycee Wives Plan Summer Activities Members of the Morrow County Jaycee Wives club met at the Heppner Neighborhood center last Thursday evening to form plans for coming sum mer activities under the direc tion of Mrs. Clyde Allstott, pres ident. Committee chairmen chosen to work on the organization's float entry in the rodeo parade this year are Mrs. Ron Gray and Mrs. Tom Wilson. Members also made plans for the Sidewalk Bazaar, July 18 19, when they will operate a sidewalk concession and booth, and discussed the possibility of operating a booth at the county fair in August. Mrs. Ed (Marie) Struthers of Lexington was greeted as a new member, and hostess for the eve ning meeting was Mrs. John Privett. (Marv) Smith of Coos Bay gave their daugh ter Linda Rea In marriage on June 21 to Lieutenant Charles Kent Garner of the United States Marine Corps Reserve. The wedding was solemnized at Emmanuel Episcopal church, Coos Bay. A reception in the so cal rooms of the church follow ed. Guests Included Mr. and Mrs. L. E. Dick. Jr., of Heppner. The Smith family lived in Heppner a number of years, moving first to Longview, Wn, then to Coos Bay in 1959, where Smith has been district mana ger for Standard Oil Company of California. They have visited In Heppner a number of times In the intervening years. Mrs. Garner was graduated from St. Paul's nursing school in New York City in May. She will take her state board nurs ing examination In California this month. After a two-week trip through California the groom will report for a short tour of duty in Texas. Those greeted included Mr. and Mrs. Larry Mills and fam ily. Mr. and Mrs. Dave Kircher and family, Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Ireland, and Mr. and Mrs. Carl ton Miller. Mills is now the manager of the Morrow County Grain Growers, Kircher is drug gist at Murravs Drug, ana ire land and Miller are with the U. S. Geological Survey group. Also greeted were Alfred Liis- worth, R. B. Cogburn, and Mrs. Minnie Campbell. Ellsworth is working with his brother. Otto, in well digging operations. Mrs. Campbell's husband is a timber faller. In charge of the sermon messag es are Dianna Cutsforth, Bobby Teck, Carley Borgstrom and Sandy Peterson. Liturgists: Kris tine Peterson, Debby Warren, Herbert Ekstrom III, Cynthia Ekstrom. Janet McCurdy, Kirk Robinson. Tom Cutsforth and Terry Pettyjohn. Ushers: Kerry Peterson and David Matheny. Oreeters: bhauna Bergstrom and Tana Rauch. Sandy Matheny will be in charge of the music. Herbert Ekstrom will be in charge of the sound control. Potluck dinner and fellowship hour will follow Immediately af ter the service. Ball games, horseshoes and other sports will be the af ternoon entertainment. Relatives of Howells Married in Portland United Jn marriage in Port land June 28 were Janice K. Cunnington and Michael C. Wold. Miss Cunnington is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rich ard Cunnington; Mrs. Cunning ton Is the former Sybil Howell. Lee Howell, formerly Tum-A-Lum manager in lone and Hepp ner and now residing in Colo rado, is the bride's grandfather. The newlyweds will make their home in McMinnville this summer, moving to Corvallis in the fall where the bridegroom will be a graduate student in oceanography at Oregon State University. Mrs. Wold studied at Linfield College, where she joined Kap pa Alpha Phi. Wold, son of Mr. and Mrs. Milo A. Wold, Mc Minnville, is a Linfield alum nus and Pi Kappa Alpha. Among the guests at the wed ding were Mrs. Vida Heliker of lone and her daughter, Mrs. Harriet Bolman of Seattle. Miss Hughes is a 19G9 grad- lone Lions Club Installs Officers Members of the lone Lions club, wives and guests were guests of the Heppner hiks lodge last Saturday evening for a pit cooked beef barbecue dinner. Following dinner Lions mem bers used the upstairs club room for installation ceremonies in which newly chosen offcers were Installed into office by Mrs. Mel Pullen, immediate past president of the Pendleton Ladies auxiliary. New president of the organi zation is Lindsay Kincaid, who will be assisted by Gene Riet mann, 1st vice president; Ray Boyce, 2nd vice president; Gar land Swanson, 3rd vice presi dent; Herb Ekstrom, Jr., secretary-treasurer; Gordon Meyers, lion tamer, and Rollo Crawford, tail twister. Directors chosen to serve for two year terms are Charles O'Connor and James Barnett. One year directors elect ed are Don Heliker and Gene Dockter. Highlight of the evening came when the drawng for the No mad travel trailer was held, with the lucky ticket held by Doug Dubuque of Heppner. OES Delegates Attend Grand Lodge Meet Eastern Star delegates from Heppner who traveled to the annual Grand Lodge meeting at Memorial Coliseum in Portland on Monday, June 23, were Mrs. Mary Bryant, worthy matron, Ruth Chapter, and Mrs. Beth Brvant. Dast worthy matron. Also attendng from here was Mrs. Virginia Wilkinson, wno hAs sprved the lodee during the Dast vear as Associate Grand Conductress of the Grand Lodge of Oregon. Mrs. Wilkinson was chosen for the position of Grand Con ductress of the Grand Lodge of Oregon at special elections held during the three day meeting session. In her capacity as Grand Conductress, she will be in charge of instructing 61 East ern Star chapters in the Port land area, beginning next Sept ember. On Wednesday evening, in stallation was held for newly chosen state officers at an im pressive ceremony, attended by over 3.000 members and guests. Installing duties were done by Alice Robinson, Past Grand Mat ron of Salem. Attending the installation service on Wednesday evening wa niok Wilkinson. ' Alien's Wenir MARJ & LeROY GARDNER THE STORE OF PERSONAL SERVICE HEPPNER Church Honors Dirk Rineharts With Potluck Rev. and Mrs. Dirk Rinehart were honored at a farewell pot luck luncheon by members of the All Saints Episcopal church Sunday, June 29. After three years at the Heppner church, Rev. Rinehart will become assoc iate rector of The Church of the Redeemer, an Episcopal church In Pendleton. At the well-attended potluck, gifts were presented to Rev. Rinehart and his wife, Karen. Herman Winters, who acted as master of ceremonies for the oc casion, presented a private com munion service for use at hos pitals and in homes to Rev. pinehart as a gift from the church. Rob Abrams gave the departing rector a gift from the accolytes. Mrs. Rinehart was presented with a gift from the choir by Elizabeth Abrams, and one from the Episcopal Church Women by Mrs. Ned Clark. The Rineharts will move to Pendleton some time next week, when their house Is ready.. In his new position, Rev. Rine hart will work with youth. One of his duties will be involved with youth and adult education through a church community program with Blue Mountain Community College. Rev. Richard Payne Is rector of the Pendleton church, which has about 650 members. Irrigon Man On USS Klondike Disbursing Clerk Second Class Howard L. Keith, USN. son of Mr. and Mrs. James II. Keith. Sr., ot Irrtgon, and husband of the former Miss Janice Arnold of 156 Hardy Ave., Eugene., U serving as a crewmember of the repair ship USS Klondike. The San Diego based hhip Just completed a seven month tour of duty In the Western Pacific. As a member of the crew he was Instrumental in helping the ship provide repair services for other ships of the Seventh Fleet He visited such ports as Yoko suka, Japan, Kaohsiung, Tai wan, Vung-Tau, Vietnam, and Sublc Bay, Republic of the Philippines during Klondike's deployment. As a repair ship attached to the Seventh Fleet. Klondike functions as a floating shipyard whose principal advantage Is mobility. It Is this asset which Is being utilized to aid Amer ica's position of defense In the Vietnam conflict. Enjoying? the Row FMtlral parade and other activities in Portland recently were Mr. and Mrs. Adrian Bechdolt, Archie Bechdolt and Marlon Hayden. who traveled there early on Friday. The group were house guests of a nephew and family of Mrs. Bechdolt who live near Vancouver while they were away.
