Miss Daggett Is a 1967 grad
uate of Heppner High, school
and a secretarial graduate of
Blue Mountain Community col
lege. Hunkapillar, a graduate of
Athena High school, also attend
ed Blue Mountain college.
Both are now employed In
Pendleton. ,

Jaycee Wives Plan
Summer Activities
Members of the Morrow
County Jaycee Wives club met
at the Heppner Neighborhood
center last Thursday evening
to form plans for coming sum
mer activities under the direc
tion of Mrs. Clyde Allstott, pres
ident. Committee chairmen chosen
to work on the organization's
float entry in the rodeo parade
this year are Mrs. Ron Gray
and Mrs. Tom Wilson.
Members also made plans for
the Sidewalk Bazaar, July 18
19, when they will operate a
sidewalk concession and booth,
and discussed the possibility of
operating a booth at the county
fair in August.
Mrs. Ed (Marie) Struthers of
Lexington was greeted as a new
member, and hostess for the eve
ning meeting was Mrs. John
Privett.

of Coos Bay gave their daugh

June 21 to Lieutenant Charles
Kent Garner of the United
States Marine Corps Reserve.
The wedding was solemnized
at Emmanuel Episcopal church,

Mrs. L. E. Dick. Jr., of Heppner.
The Smith family lived in
Heppner a number of years,
moving first to Longview, Wn,
then to Coos Bay in 1959, where
Smith has been district mana
ger for Standard Oil Company
of California. They have visited

Mrs. Garner was graduated
from St. Paul's nursing school
in New York City in May. She
will take her state board nurs
ing examination In California
this month. After a two-week
trip through California the
groom will report for a short
tour of duty in Texas.

working with his brother. Otto,

To Lead Services
At Cutsforth Park
A special worship service con
ducted by the youth of Heppner
and lone Lutheran churches
will be held Sunday, July 6,
11:00 a.m. at Cutsforth Park. In
charge of the sermon messag

will be a graduate student in
oceanography at Oregon State
University.
Mrs. Wold studied at Linfield
College, where she joined Kap
pa Alpha Phi. Wold, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Milo A. Wold, Mc
Minnville, is a Linfield alum
nus and Pi Kappa Alpha.

Grand Lodge Meet
Eastern Star delegates from
Heppner who traveled to the
annual Grand Lodge meeting at
Memorial Coliseum in Portland
on Monday, June 23, were Mrs.
Mary Bryant, worthy matron,
Ruth Chapter, and Mrs. Beth
Brvant. Dast worthy matron.

Mrs. Virginia Wilkinson, wno

Dast vear as Associate Grand
Conductress of the Grand Lodge
of Oregon.
Mrs. Wilkinson was chosen
for the position of Grand Con
ductress of the Grand Lodge of
Oregon at special elections held
during the three day meeting
session. In her capacity as
Grand Conductress, she will be
in charge of instructing 61 East
ern Star chapters in the Port
land area, beginning next Sept
ember. On Wednesday evening, in

pressive ceremony, attended by
over 3.000 members and guests.

Church Honors
Dirk Rineharts
With Potluck
Rev. and Mrs. Dirk Rinehart
were honored at a farewell pot
luck luncheon by members of
the All Saints Episcopal church
Sunday, June 29. After three
years at the Heppner church,
Rev. Rinehart will become assoc
iate rector of The Church of the
Redeemer, an Episcopal church
In Pendleton.
At the well-attended potluck,
gifts were presented to Rev.
Rinehart and his wife, Karen.
Herman Winters, who acted as
master of ceremonies for the oc
casion, presented a private com
munion service for use at hos
pitals and in homes to Rev.
pinehart as a gift from the
church. Rob Abrams gave the
departing rector a gift from the
accolytes.
Mrs. Rinehart was presented
with a gift from the choir by
Elizabeth Abrams, and one from
the Episcopal Church Women
by Mrs. Ned Clark.
The Rineharts will move to
Pendleton some time next week,
when their house Is ready..
In his new position, Rev. Rine
hart will work with youth. One
of his duties will be involved
with youth and adult education
through a church community
program with Blue Mountain
Community College.
Rev. Richard Payne Is rector
of the Pendleton church, which
has about 650 members.

completed a seven month tour
of duty In the Western Pacific.
As a member of the crew he
was Instrumental in helping
the ship provide repair services
for other ships of the Seventh
Fleet
He visited such ports as Yoko
suka, Japan, Kaohsiung, Tai
wan, Vung-Tau, Vietnam, and
Sublc Bay, Republic of the
Philippines during Klondike's
deployment.
As a repair ship attached to
the Seventh Fleet. Klondike
functions as a floating shipyard
whose principal advantage Is
mobility. It Is this asset which
Is being utilized to aid Amer
ica's position of defense In the
Vietnam conflict.
