Irrigon Lions Plan July 4 Pony Races Pony races will be part of the Fourth of Julv celebration at Irrigon. Deadline for entries Is Julv 2, phone 922 3172. The races will be held east of the school grounds In Irrigon at 1 p.m. Ponies must be 46 Inches or under. The age groups for riders will be 6 and under. and 8 years old, 9 and 10 year-olds. The scholarship is for $150, renewable to $500. Miss Tucker is a 1969 graduate of lone High school and plans to use the scholarship to aid her in attend ing a Eugene business college. Mrs. Lee Palmer Has Major Surgery Mrs. Lee (Mary Ann) Palmer of lone underwent maor sur gery a week ago Wednesday morntns at General hospital In Alhanv. She Is making MtWfiu' tory progress according to her mother. Mrs. Lincoln Nash of Heppner, who traveled there by bus last week to be with her daughter at the time of her sur gery. Mrs. Nash returned to Henoner on Thursday and trav eled to Albany again over the week end with another daugh ter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Dean Connor and children. En route she spent time visiting Mr. end Mrs. Bob Parson and family in Beaverton while the Connor family stayed at the home of his sister, Mrs. John Williams In Aloha. Super Stitchers Meet Mrs. David (Linda) Gray was met by members of her family at the Portland airport last Fri day evening following her ar rival from San Clemente, Calif., for a week of visiting with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. A. War- ien of lone, and otner inenas and relatives in Heppner. House guests at the home of Mrs. Mabel Chaffee over the past week-end were her cousin, Mrs. Audrey Billings of Seattle, accompanied bv a friend, Mrs. Bettv Bailev. from Prosser, Wn. On Monday, June 16, Mrs. Chaf fee and Mrs. Jeannie Huston traveled to Hermiston for a com bined business and trip. The lone Super Stitchers met at the home of Cheryl Hams. The meeting was called to or der by President Teena Stefanl. Melanie Ball gave roll call and we had to name a coior mat was suitable for each one of us. Sherri Wison led us in the American pledge and Cheryl Hams In the 4-H pledge. In old business we discussed If any of us signed up for 4-H summer school or for 4-H camp. In new business we discussed about giving demonstrations at fair time. We also discussed the dif ferent groups we would be in at the fair and how we would place. Mrs. Tullis gave a dem onstration on how to put in a zipper and it was a ainerent method used. Refreshments were served by Teena Stefani and Cheryl Hams. Our next meeting will be July 2 and it will be on how to grease a sewing machine. Steve Pettyjohn, son of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Pettyjohn, and John Rawlins, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Rawlins, will work (and fish) during the summer.
