WALT HAYES, Chairman of the Budget Committee 16-17c I Lightning Storm Sets House Ablaze By FRANCES ROSE WILSON 1RRIGON A bolt of lightning struck the James MiRue home, two miles west of Irrlgon Satur day nlcht during the electric storm, setting the house afire. The bolt burned foliage from a tree east of the house, struck an iron vent pipe and passed through the building, striking a locust tree 10 feet away on the west side of the house. The incident occurred at the height of the thunderstorm which knocked out power, plunging the area into darkness and making the lire siren in operative. Help was solicited by Mrs. Don Adams, the fire chief's wife, who contacted volunteer firemen by phone, after the call was received. Possible total loss to the house was no doubt de ferred bv the downpour of rain Approximately two inches fell in less than two hours. Fortunately the Mclfties were not at home when the lightnln? struck. They stated that the loss was partially covered by insur a nee. Terry McCoy, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ben McCoy, received the Bachelor of Science degree in general studies on Saturday, June 7, from Eastern Oregon College of Education, La Grande. Lexington News By DELPHA JONES LEXINGTON Mr. and Mrs. Wm. J. VanWinkle and daugh ter Glenda spent the week-end in Portland where they visited Mrs. Sally Lowry who is a pa tient in the hospital there. Mrs. Lowry is Mrs. VanWinkle's mother. Mr. and Mrs. Forrest Rinehart and children of Uklah visited at the Joe Yocom home Sunday. Holly Rebekah Lodge met last Thursday evening for its regular meeting with Noble Grand Donna Papineau presiding. At this time Mrs. Eula Bloodsworth was reinstated as a member, having dropped several years ago when she moved to Hermls ton. Refreshments were served later in the dining room. PNG Club of the Holly Rebek ah Lodge met at the home of Mrs. A. F. Majeske last Wed nesday for their regular meet ing. A delicious luncheon was served at noon, and the after noon was spent in visiting. Those present were Mrs. Flor ence McMillan, co-hostess, Mrs. Joe Yocom, Mrs. Wm. J. Van Winkle. Mrs. C. C. Jones, Mrs, Frank Robinson, Mrs. Oris Pad berg. Mrs. Kenneth Palmer, and the hostess. The next meeting will be at the Frank Robinson home with Mrs. Yocom as co hostess. Mrs. Lola Breeding and Mrs, Florence McMillan motored to Hood River on Monday. Mrs. Mc Millan will visit with her dau ghter and family, Mr. and Mrs G. E. Irvin, and Mrs. Breeding will motor on to Portland where she will visit. Mrs. Venice Hendrickson and granddaughter, Marie Yocom, were Portland visitors over the week-end.
