Lightning Storm Sets House Ablaze
By FRANCES ROSE WILSON
1RRIGON A bolt of lightning
struck the James MiRue home,
two miles west of Irrlgon Satur
day nlcht during the electric
storm, setting the house afire.
The bolt burned foliage from a
tree east of the house, struck
an iron vent pipe and passed
through the building, striking a
locust tree 10 feet away on the
west side of the house.
The incident occurred at the
height of the thunderstorm
which knocked out power,
plunging the area into darkness
and making the lire siren in
operative. Help was solicited by
Mrs. Don Adams, the fire chief's
wife, who contacted volunteer
firemen by phone, after the call
was received. Possible total loss
to the house was no doubt de
ferred bv the downpour of rain
Approximately two inches fell
in less than two hours.
Fortunately the Mclfties were
not at home when the lightnln?
struck. They stated that the loss
was partially covered by insur
a nee.
Terry McCoy, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Ben McCoy, received the
