Despite the cool breezy wea ther. some fine scores were turned in by several of the golf ers from each school. Most of the boys found the course much to their liking and were able to keep their shots under con trol at all times. Low score for the day was recorded by Wall of Wheeler, followed closely by Kilkenny of Heppner and York of Umatilla. On Friday. May 9. the Fal con team will journey to John Day for a match with Grant Un ion and on Monday will return to John Day to take part In the Eastern Oregon District meet for Class A-2 and B schools. The winning team and low score will participate in the State High School Tournament in Portland. Wheeler High boys who play ed at Heppner were John Wall, Don Bird, Jerry Luther, Rich Boyles, Ron Bowman, and Bill McConnell. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Browning and daughter Linda went to Pendleton Wednesday evening where Linda had medical care on Thursday. Mrs. W. C. Freeman and dau ghter Marcia went to Pendleton Thursday for Marcia to have medical care for her injured knee at St. Anthony hospital. Mrs. Wayland Hyatt and dau ghter Theresa were business visitors to Portland Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Dan Bell and family of Portland spent the week-end visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Robert Kelso and with oth er relatives in Fossil. Jeannette Bell remained to spend the week with her grandparents. Spec4 Victor L. Bowman ar rived home Sunday on leave af ter having spent the past year on duty in Vietnam. After his leave, Vic will return to Viet nam for more duty. Mr. and Mrs. Gary McDonald and family of Portland spent the week-end visiting with Mr. and Mrs. James Walker. Mrs. Verlin Conner and Mrs. Don Slinkard were business vis itors to The Dalles Saturday. David Sitton and Donald Do- nart of Spokane were week-end visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Jack Sitton. Mr. and Mrs. Donald Nickel sen and daughter and Miss Pamela Nickelsen of Fossil spent the week-end at Camp Mears. The card party, sponsored by the Community Club Saturday night at the grade school was well attended with 11 tables of pinochle and two of bridge in play. High for bridge went to Bonnie Campbell and Ernie Wall with low to Marie Wall and Ed Wham. High for pinoch le went to Mark Jellick and Dol ores Wimer with low to Steve Conlee and Marilyn Garcia. Pi nochles went to O. L. Adams and Roberta Conlee. The door prizes went to Dolores Wimer, 0. L. Adams, and Joan Simmons of Heppner. A successful White Elephant auction was held with Dick Sargent as the auctioneer. Pie and coffee were served. Pro ceeds of this party are for the Scholarship Fund. Mrs. Denzil White, Mrs. Mike Todd and son Gary were busi ness visitors to Heppner Mon day. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Mortl more and sons Roger and Earl spent Sunday at Twickenham where they visited with Mr. and Mrs. Howard Mortimore and Bill Schultz. S. Army District Engin eer, has issued a special invi. tatlon to the public to visit com pleted Army Engineers' projects on Armed Forces Day, Satur day, May 17. All projects are open to vis Itors during daylight hours seven days a week, but on Arm ed Forces Day, the Engineers wish to call attention to the fact that since 1824 the Corps has built and maintained the nat ion's harbors and navigable waterways. Portland district projects open to visitors Include the 15 com pleted dams on the Columbia and in the Willamette Valley. The district's 16th and newest project la the John Day Dam.
