Putnam and Robert A. Gaynor, loan officer of the Small Business Administration of Portland, dim-usa a local df velopment program. There were 3'i present. Mayor Dewey West, master of ceremonies, Introduced M.D. Van Valkcnburgh, The Dalle attor ney, who has worked with local people for many years assisting them in the relocation of the town. West stated that without him, he doubts If the city would ever have Rotten moved. Van Valkenburgh Introduced Putnam, who spoke on the pro gram, stating that 95 of the businesses are considered small. He said to develop a local cor poration takes nothing more than a group of people for the purpose of Industrial, commer cial and recreational facilities. Ten percent of the cost in towns of under 5500 population must be furnished, lie recommended a first mortgage under private financing, with the SBA taking a second mortgage. In Gaynor's talk he stated It would take 25 stockholders to form a local development cor poration. He said one of the pur poses of the local corporation is to stop the young people from leaving small towns for the cit ies, and to create Jobs for them at home. Mavor West asked for a show ing of hands about the refor mation of a Chamber of Com merce, and appointed Wally Hendrix and Carl Wicklander as a nominating committee to in terview possible officers for an organization. Out of town guests at the meeting included Rupert Kenne dy, The Dalles, and Gar Swan ton, lone, both Port of Morrow members; Jim Green of Arling ton and Gene Pierce of llepp ner, both Bank of Eastern Ore gon; Walter Karnoff, Eastern Oregon Telephone Company at Pilot Rock; Lt. Paul Barnicle from the Boardman Bombing Range, and Forrest Zuppe with the Boeing Company. Greenfield Grange met March 15 at the hall, starting with pol lock suimxt at 6:30. Hosts were Mr. and Mrs. Roy Ball, Mr. and Mrs. Zearl Gillespie and Mrs. Leo Root. Mrs. Jones reported that Ha zcl Miller of Greenfield Grange has been appointed as the new Morrow county Pomona WAC chairman. Mrs. Jones will at tend the next WAC meeting here In April to discuss grange contests and the cotton dress shop. Nathan Thorpe, Morrow coun tv deputy, gave a report on his attendance to deputy school re cently in Portland. Mrs. Roy Ball reported on the rural fire district formation here, and stated that some farmers were not in favor of it Mrs. Root was Installed In the office of Pomona.
