Mrs. Campbell is Mr. Jorgensen's cousin. Injuries suffered in a fall on the ice resulted in an ambu lance trip to the Umatilla hos pital for Mrs. Dave Young on Monday. Her injuries were in tensified by those suffered in an auto accident some time ago from which she had not fully recovered. Dannette Leighton underwent surgery last week and is conva lescing in Good Shepherd hos pital in Hermiston. Mrs. Myrna Miller of Portland was a guest of her sister and family, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Jor gensen over the week-end. Rev. Herbert Vaughn is con fined to the Umatilla hospital where he underwent surgery this past week. Mrs. Pete Richards and 4-H Community Club leader, Mrs. John Brandt, attended a 4-H leaders conference at Corvallis the week of January 15. The trip was made with other lead ers and Morrow county exten sion agent, Gail Mccarty. Lloyd Berger was taken to the Umatilla hospital this week suf fering with lung congestion. Michael and Jeff Easterling took the bus to Nampa, Idaho, where they visited their father, Andrew Easterling. They came back bv plane. Mr. and Mrs. Pete Richards traveled to Heppner last Mon day evening for a 4-H livestock leaders meeting. The group was called together to review the 4-H livestock program for the county and to discuss changes which might be needed for this year's fair premium book. Warren McCoy made a busi ness trip to Portland on Friday and returned on Saturday. A call for bids was authorized for their construction and the invi tation will be advertised with bid opening set for the last part of February. It Is anticipated work will begin on the project in March after contracts are awarded. The Federally funded project is expected to be ready for op eration in June and will init ially serve about 55 families. At the kindergarten meeting st a r Hnnohtnn school Fri day, January 17, announcement was made that Mrs. Irene Brooks of Hermiston will be the teacher. She has signed a con tract covering the school term, which will begin on February 10 and continue through May 9. There will be a charge of $12.50 a month for each student. As there are 24 children sign ed up for the sessions, they will be divided into two groups, half attending in the morning and the remainder coming in the afternoon. Mrs. Karen Cool ey will assist Mrs. Brooks in the mornings and Mrs. Carol John son in the afternoons. As in the regular scnooi grades, Kindergarten will em brace children from both the Veterans' Widows May Receive Aid For Education An estimated 1,386 Oregon widows of veterans who died as the result of military service are now eligible for up to 36 months of educational assistance from the Veterans Administra tion, R. J. Novotny, manager of the Portland VA regional office, said today. He pointed out that wives of Oregon's 998 totally and perma nentlv disabled veterans are al so entitled to VA educational assistance payments of $130 a month up to a maximum of 36 months for full-time institut ional training. The allowance for three-quarters time training is $95 a month, with $60 being paid for half time training under the new law granting these wid o w s and wives VA educational help for the first time in the history ol veterans' benefits in the United States, Novotny said. Eligibility of widows and wives does not depend on when their husbands served in the Armed Forces. However, Novot ny add'fd, if a wiow remarries or a wife divorces her disabled husband, she loses her entitle ment. Novotny emphasized that it will not be necessary for eligible widows and wives to contact the VA for detailed information on this new program. In the near future the Veter ans Administration will mail explanatory material with wid ow's dependency and indemnity compensation (DIC) checks and with the compensation checks for totally and permanently dis abled veterans.
