Candidates Named for Ciiy Offices By EVA HAM LETT JO.NE Candidate (or city of fice were chosen at a council meeting recently. Bill Uietmann has accepted the nomination for mayor, and, if elected, will replace Mayor Jim Burnett who nan resigned to run for position of county sheriff. Mrs. Juno Crowell, Incumhent, will be unopposed for the office of cltv recorder. Marilyn Uletmann, wife of the candidate for mayor, was nom inated for office of cltv treas urer. Also named for this office were Edith Matthews. Adclc Dokter and Pulricia Tucker. Incumbent council members I5ov W. Llndstrom, Wallace Matthews and Donald Bristow were elected to seek the three positions oxn on the council. Others nominated were Howard Crowell. Herb Ekstrom, Jr., Mrs. Laurel Cannon, Lurry Iiielmann und Harold Snider. Terms of office for city posit ions are two years, city council terms are four years. All posit ions are non-partisan. Balloting on all positions will be held at the eeneral election on November 5. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Wldemar have moved into the Stella O' Meara apartments. Jim Wide mar works for Ralph Crum. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Miller (Ma bel Cool) of Osborne, Iduho, were recent visitors of their son in law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Edward ration of Cecil. Mr. and Mrs. Errett Hummel of Beaverton, Mr. and Mrs. Win nie Cammon of forest Grove, and Mr. and Mrs. Dale Rod- rifiues and family of Hermiston, were guests of Mr. and Mrs. John Eubanks last week-end at their mountain cabin while deer huntlne. Mrs. John Eubanks attended the Heppner Auxiliary meeting and installed their officers for the comine term. Miss Karen Nelson of Port land spent the week-end with Cherlyn Smouse and attended the Oregon State-Washington pame. Mr. and Mrs. Norman Nelson and Kristen took Mrs. Anne Smouse back to Portland. Thev stayed overnight with Mrs. A. H. Nelson and Karen went to Corvallis with them. Mrs. Nor man Nelson reported that Chuck Nelson, Neal Christopherson, and Kerry Peterson are In the 120-member marching band and will march at the Oregon State Arizona game. Mrs. Henry Krebs entertained her Junior High Sunday school class with a pizza-pepsi party at her home last Friday even ing. Those attending were Cas sie Chapel. Classes started In the hlnh school room of the church basement on Tuesday, October 15, at 8 p.m. The study will involve learning about the Bible In Its entirety, so that it may be more easily read and understood. Gaylord Salter and children from Athena, and Mr. and Mrs. Bill Salter and family of Forest Grove, were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Salter, and Mr. and Mrs. Harold Snl ler, at the open ing of hunting season. The junior high school foot ball team defeated the Echo team 26 to 19 last Thursday. This is their fifth win and will play Echo there October 24.
