Principal Hosts Riverside Staff By MART LEE MARLOW BOARDMAN Mr. and Mrs. Dan Daltoso were hosts for a dinner at their home Sunday evening in honor of the teach ers of Riverside Junior-Senior High school. Mrs. Jerry Meyer was hostess for a recipe shower at her home lust Thursday in honor of Ella Sutton, bride-elect of Dick Skou bo. There were 18 present. The honoree was presented with a recipe file filled with recipes brought by the guests. Mrs. Zearl Gillespie was host aca tnT thp Rnnrriman Garden club at her home the first of' last week. Mrs. Roy Ball was co-1 hostess. Roll call was answered by answering the question, "Wno will De our next presi dent?" president?" Mrs. Leo Root presented ar ticles on the care and trans planting of peonies. Mrs. Miller won the prize in a game, and also received the door prize. the home of Mrs. Root Septem ber 16. Mr. and Mrs. Delmer Holt and children Amy, Kenny and Myr tle of Kalama, Wash., visited last week at the home of Mrs. Holt's uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Seehafer. Mrs. Bill Califf of Estacada was a week-end visitor at the home of her mother. Mrs. Ralph Earwood, and her brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Don Downey. Renee, Vickie and Mark Califf returned home with her after a visit here. Mrs. Art Pepin of Portland visited at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. John Harvey over the week-end. Mrs. Dave Mittelsdorf, Mrs. Shirley Zielinski and daughter Toni, Diane Black and Karen Gronquist went to Portland Fri day to see the musical, "I Do, I Do", starring Mary Martin and Robert Preston, at the Civ ic Auditorium. Mr. and Mrs. Rod Flug went down Saturday night to see the play. Mr. and Mrs. Peter Cassidy and three sons of San Jose, Calif, visited one day last week at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Allen. Cassidy's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Mike Cassidy of Umatilla, former residents here, accompanied them. Ray Burkett, who is traveling In a rowboat from Detroit, Mich, to the Pacific Ocean, stopped in at the city hall last Friday. Vacation School Well Attended By FRANCES ROSE WILSON 1RRIGON The average at tendance was 30, at the recent Vacation Bible School held at the Irrigon Assembly of God church. A fine group of young people volunteered to help. Among them were Sheryl Part low, pianist; Donna Pummel, song leader; Vickie Gayman, beginner class helper, Sheryl Part low also assisted with handwork in the beginner class and Shirley Dixon served re freshments and helped with the handwork. Teachers were Mrs. Harvey Warner, Junior class; Rev. John Kenney was in charge of Jun ior boys' handwork, Mrs. Joh'i Kenney and Mrs. Josephine Bu chanan, Primary class, and Mrs. Chester Wilson, Beginner class. Rev. Kenney told missionary stories of his experience in In dia each morning. He told of the huge monkeys that would steal the fruit from the trees, drawing a moral lesson. He al so told how God protected him from leopards and cobra snakes that are found in India. The song "How Great Thou Art" was featured and illustrated with a book. The song is familiar since it is used in the Billy Graham Crusade. Guests of Rev. and Mrs. John Kenney from Port Arthur, On tario, Canada, were Mr. and Mrs. Arvid Kotanen and son Roddy, Mrs. Ada Thompson and Miss Frances Arthur. Mr. Kot anen, who is a layman, spoke in the morning service at the Assembly of God. Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Stephens drove to Milton-Freewater re cently to visit Mrs. Margaret Finney. They returned by Pen dleton where they visited Mrs. Mae McKinney. Guests of the Don Leighton family have been Mr. and Mrs. Donald Stocks, Donny and Sherry of Tacoma, Mr. and Mrs. Roscoe Cook and family and Mr. and Mrs. David Kochs and family of Portland, as well as Mrs. Vallas Dexter, Janice and Judy of La Grande. Mrs. Don Leighton and Dan nette attended a shower for the Mel Ravner family from the Navy Base near Boardman. When the Rayners' home burn ed recently everything was des troyed, including $5,000 worth of photographic equipment. Mr. and Mrs. Chas Bartlett, Steve and Cynthia were recent guests of her parents, Mayor and Mrs. Chester Wilson. They were vacationing and their stop here was the first on a trip that will take them to Grangeville, Idaho to visit Bartlett's broth er, John Baker, and family, and through Jackson Hole, Wyo., Yellowstone Park, and to visit friends in Montana. They also plan to visit Calgary, Alberta, in Canada and several Canad ian parks, and will return home by Grand Coulee Dam and the Okanogan Valley. Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Hoover returned to Irrigon after a week-end huckleberry trip to Mt. Adams. Mr. and Mrs. Orville Buchan an and family also made a trip to Mt. Adams for huckleberries, after spending several days fishing at Magone Lake and the North Fork of the John Day river. Mrs. Gertrude Van Horn was in town last week attending to some business. She came from Stites, Idaho, and spent sever al days in Pasco where she at tended a school class reunion. Miss Mary Kenney arrived from Tracy, Calif., where she teaches school, for a two week's visit with her parents, Rev. and Mrs. John Kenney.
