Dtcwilut 23. 1968 Shower Honors Glenda Shelton Bt VIRGINIA KELSO (Held over from last week) KINZUA Miss Glenda Shel ton, bride-elect of Wayne Cox, was the guest of honor last Tuesday evening at a miscel laneous bridal shower at the Kinzua gtade school. Bingo was played with winners being WU ma Ma be, Wilma Thompson, Randa Fessler, and Betty Ben son. Glenda then opened her many gifts assisted by her mother, Mrs. Lloyd Shelton, Mrs. Ralph Elliot Mrs. Bill Stephens, and Miss Dolores Shelton. The cake, served with refreshments, was baked and decorated by Mrs. Shelton in the bride's colors of red and white. Hostesses for the evening were Marie Hulett, Marie Rhoton, Doris Stubblefield, Rose Merry Nelson, Jean Medlock. Carol Norris, Barbara Mortimore, Lola Ferrel and Betty Murdock. The Friendship club had Its annual Chlstmas party and gift exchange Wednesday evening at the school house with Rita Con lee as hostess. Pinochle was played with high going to Pat McMinn and David Mattison. low to VI Stinkard and Richard Graham, and floating to Naomi Rice and Richard Mortimore. Those enjoying this evening were Mr. and Mrs. John Jack son, Mr. and Mrs. Steve Conlee, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Graham, Mr. and Mrs. Bill McMinn, Mrs. Earl Norris, Mr. and Mrs. Rich ard Mortimore. Mrs. Dan Bell, Mrs. Don Slinkad, Mr. and Mrs. John Nelson, Mr. and Mrs. Omar Stubblefield. Mr. and Mrs, Dav id Mattison, Mr. and Mrs. How ard Rice. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Jor dan and Rusty Medlock, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Bogle and son Josh were business visitors to The Dalles Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. Don Sllnkard spent the week-end In Frlneville visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Paul Oyler. Roger Mattison left Saturday to return to his home in San Diego. Calif., after spending sev eral months working here. He went to Portland with Dan and Jack Bell who went to attend the Roadster show. Mrs. Roy Keller and Mrs. Ray Rector and son Jeff were busi ness visitors to rrlneville on Monday. The annual Christmas pro gram of the Kinzua Community church on Sunday was well re ceived by a capacity crowd. The program, which was put on by all classes from beginners to high schoolers, was under the direction of Mrs. Allen Nis tad, assisted bv Mrs. Don Con-. Mrs. Roy Keller, Mrs. Doyall Hubbell. Mrs. John Meadows, and Mrs. Richard Sargent, The Camp 5 Womens card party was held Monday even ing at the Camp 5 Community hall with Sharon Bell as host ess. High was won by Carol Norris. low and pinochle by Jean Medlock and second pi nochle by Marie Hulett. Mrs. Richard Mortimore and Mrs. Slim Rhoton were in Hepp ner Thursday on business. Mrs. Rusty Medlock and son Mike and Mrs. Earl Norris were business visitors to Heppner on Friday. While there Mike had dental work done. Earl Norris, Rusty Medlock and John Hawk were business visitors to Condon and Heppner on Saturday. The tables were beautifully dcoo rated with Christmas arrangements, many of which had won prizes at the lone Garden Club Christmas show, along with lovelv place cards adorned with holly and small deer, made by Mrs". Ken neth Smouse. The decorating committee for the evening was Mrs. Smouse and Mrs, A. F. Majeske. Imomdiately following the dinner a get acquainted game was enjoyed with Mrs. Lewis Halvorsen of lone winning first prize. The group sang a number of Christmas carols led by Mrs. Norman Nelson accompanied by were In Heppner Saturday for eye care. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Norris of Prineville were week-end guests of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Norris. Mr. and Mrs. Guy Williams and daughter of Prineville vis ited Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. John Hawk and family. Mrs. Jiggs Bowman and dau ghter Cindy spent from Tuesday until Thursday visiting her mother Mrs. Manuel Esplnola at Stanfield. When she returned home Thursday she was accom panied by her son Vic Bowman who has been attending Blue Mountain College in Pendleton. Mrs. Tom Jordan was In Con don Monday for shopping and dental care. The Christmas card party of the Camp 5 Community was hied Saturday night at the Com munity hall with Ruth Jordan and Etta Ferrel as hostesses. High was won by Barbara Mor timore and Milt Boring, low by Camilla Samples and David Mattison. and floating by Vir ginia Sitton and Ruth Jordan. The evening was finished with a gift exchange and refresh ments. The annual Christmas party by Local Union No. 2916 was held Sunday afternoon at the grade school with a large crowd present. O. L. Adams was chair man of the event. The after noon started with basketball games the first between boys of grades four to seven with the blue team defeating the red team by a score of 21 to 18. The second game was a contest be tween sons and their fathers with the sons defeating the fa thers by a score of 30 to 21. Between games a group of girls put on a tumbling show. Tak ing part were Donna Meadows, Theresa Hyatt, Joyce Hawk, Sara Bowman, Beverly Conklin, Rhonda Sargent, Connie Schroe der, Brenda Keller, and Nina Rickert. At the conclusion of the games Santa, played by Ray Cody, passed out treats to the children. Ernest Chrlstophe r s o n, two Christmas numlers bv the small daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Marquardt. a duet by Hurley Sagor and Carl Marquardt were enjoyed, followed by a Christ mas scripture devotional by Rev. Al Bosehee of the Lexington and Heppner Christian churches. A closing number duet by llarley Sager and Carl Marquardt was then enjoyed. The first line of business was the Installation of officers who had been unable to go to Board man earlier In the day for coun ty installation. This was done by Berl Akers, county Pomona Master, assisted by Mrs. Lewis Halvorsen, Those Installed were Marie Stiagall, as chaplain' Jean Nelson, treasurer; Kenneth Smouse. secretary; Norman Nel son, gatekeeper; Nora Turner, Celt's: Frieda Majeske, Pomona, and the executive committee, Fred Nelson, Florence McMillan and Frances Smouse. A short business meeting was held after which coffee was en joyed In the dining room. The next meeting will bo the annual pancake feed, preceding the meeting, with the following men In charge of miking and serving, Norma Nelson, chair man, Gene Majeske, Joe Yooom, Ernest Chrlstooherson, Fred Nel son, Kenneth Smouse and Cecil Jones. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Yooom and Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Jones motor ed to Board man Saturday morn ing to Greenfield Grange where they were installed In the fol lowing offices: Charles C. Jones, Master; Delpha Jones, lecturer: Joe Yooom, assistant steward and Hilda Yooom, ladv assistant steward. Mrs. Kipling of Baker acted as installing officer of the day, assisted by the Uma tilla County installing team. A pot luck dinner was served at noon. Mr. and Mrs. JerTy Levi and family of Sacramento, Calif., were recent visitors at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Hunt. They were enroute to Pendleton where they will make their home. Lyle Allen of Board man was a Lexington caller one day last week. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Colley have been recent Spray visitors. Fathers Death Calls Al Martin to Mexico Mrs. Alan Martin, daughters, Debbie and Plane, and baby son. Ross, are spending the holidays without Mr. Martin who was called to Mnitlan, Mexico, bv the death of his step, father. C. U. Pimm. News of the death arrived on Saturday. December 17. by tele gram, and the Martin lamllv spent seven hours trying to call Mrs. Pimm In Mazatlan with the help of telephone operators In Pendleton and of a Spanish teacher from Pendleton High school. As a result of this conversa tion, Mr. Martin, who has no brothers or sisters, decided to fly to Mazatlan to be with his mother, He began the journey bv commercial airline but found that he would be faced with delays, and with some difficul ty, contacted iho Jack Sumner family who were also flying to Mazatlan, but by private plane. He was able to continue on from Tucson, Ariz., with the Sumners. Mrs, Martin has had word by letter of his safe arrival. According to Mrs. Martin, Mr. Dlmm suffered a fatal heart ut tack; he had only recently re covered from a previous attack, The Plmms had lived In Mazat lan several years since his re tirement. Visitors at the Martin home for Christmas were Mrs. Mart in's parents, Mr, and Mrs. C. C. Souther, Portland, and dau ghter. Barbara, a Junior at the University of Puget Sound.
